And then we also have other examples like the apostles, and then we have personal examples in our life of men who follow Christ and take on the same nature and character.

And part of that is living a morally upright life that I want to be clean as God is clean.

And it's not as though that I'm doing it to try to obviously attain salvation or I'm not trying to do it like the scribes and Pharisees so that I can blow a horn and everybody can look at me and just say, wow, look at that amazing morally upright person.

But it's more so if God has created man to be something, then I need to take on the same characteristics that will make me that type of man or woman.

So the question is, if he's given me now this new birth and I'm holy as he is holy, I want to grow in what that actually means.

The morally upright aspect of who Christ is, I want to act that out in my life.

And the amazing thing is is that the more you look at scriptures, the commands and scriptures in the New Testament of, like, what Peter says, and he's quoting from the Old Testament that we need to be pure and holy as Christ is pure and holy.

You realize that in every aspect of my life that I'm actually not pure or immoral in my practice, that's actually a deterrent, and that's actually stealing something from me.

But if I take on what Christ wants me to take on, I find that there's actual usage of that or it makes my life better.

There's no arbitrary standards in the scripture that we need to try to be morally upright and there's no point to it other than just trying to be pure.

For me to love one woman has a purpose for me that brings me health.

Doing everything the way that God wants me to do it with the empowering of the Holy Spirit is beneficial for me.

It's almost as though that it's selfish.

And when I do things my own way and God says that it's morally impure, He's not just saying that because He's saying, oh, bad, you did something bad.

He's just saying that's taking something away from you from what you actually could be, which would be beneficial to you.

And this is what gives us the ability to be holy as he is holy.

Are we gonna fail?

Because we're not God.

This is a huge responsibility.

And unbeknownst to him, had this very rare Van Gogh painting and he didn't know the artwork whatsoever.

The pawnshop owner saw the painting, knew what he had on his hands and offered the guy $50.

The guy turned it around in the pawnshop, sold it for half $1,000,000 or whatever it was.

That man didn't know the worth of what he actually possessed.

And for believers, even we might not know the worth of what the holiness of God is and what it could actually produce in our life.

But those who are fear and trembling before the fact of what they're in, have the Van Gogh painting and say, this thing is the most precious thing.

It's Jesus' parable.

The man walks through the field and he stumbles on a treasure and sells everything because the value of the treasure.

It looks like it's worthless, but in that field is this treasure.

And that is what the holiness of God is.

And that's why Jesus said it because the natural man looks at it and sees absolutely no value in a God, supposed of God who's hanging on a cross.

But in that is the righteousness of God.

It's the holiness of God.

It's the love of God.

It's the wrath of God.

Just to think that we're able to even come into His presence.

We get, like I preach on Sunday down in Fet Hill that platitudes in the Christian faith is one of those things that we can just say these things over and over again, but the reality of them don't really sink in because the Holy Spirit has to be the one to reveal to us, first Corinthians two, the things that eye has not seen, ear has not heard, the things that God has prepared for those whom he loves.

And to think that we are walking through this life and we should be walking through with fear and trembling, not that he's gonna judge us at all, but rather he's put us in this unbelievable position, and we're being conformed to his image.

And I wanna get on that train because I know if I can be like Christ, that is the answer.

It's really like not just your conversation, but you're putting aside the old things that the Gentiles used to produce, you know, in your life because you've replaced that old life with a new source, and the new source is the authentic source.

Before you were making you know, we were making art, and we thought it had some value, but really it had no value except that Van Gogh was the one who put his signature on it.

And and there's many cases of similar things, Stradivarius violin that somebody sells at a yard sale, and they have no idea that it's like a $3,000,000 violin.

And these are these are just situations where people have no no realization.

第16节说：‘你们要圣洁，因为我是圣洁的。’

And verse 16, because it is written, be holy, for I am holy.

So we say, pass the time of your sojourning in fear.

这其实是一个指示。

Like, that's an instruction.

Pass the time of your sojourning in fear.

不要活在世上，却被那些对神毫无价值的事物占据。

Don't live your life here being occupied with things that have no value to God.

而要超越你在地上寄居的时光，专注于神所关注的事物。

But past the time of your sojourning here on earth, being occupied with the things that God is occupied with.

我们怎么知道呢？

And how do we know that?

因为祂向我们显明了祂的圣洁。

Well, because he's shown us his holiness.

祂带领我们来到燃烧的荆棘前，说：脱下你的鞋子。

He's brought us to the burning bush and said, take off your shoes.

你所站之地是圣地。

The place where you're standing is holy.

你正在我的同在中。

You're in my presence.

进来吧，让祂除去一切会削弱我本性真实特质的事物，进入我的同在，学习我的样式，经历基督真实的生命，而不是仅仅停留在表面的比喻或旁观，而是拥有那因认识神而带来的真实、定义人生并带来转变的生命。

Come in here and let me do away with everything that would detract from that true character of my nature and come into my presence and learn of me and be the one that experiences the personal life of Christ and and doesn't have this concept tangential, illustration, but has the real defining and transformative life that comes from knowing God personally.

It would be like taking going back to the conversation aspect.

Why is he talking about manner of conversation?

It would be like taking a group of sailors that are just in the boatyard and then putting them in an elders meeting or putting them in a conference room with a bunch of high execs.

And these guys are cursing.

These guys are talking profane.

They're talking just in a manner that you would talk maybe as a sailor back in the day or even today.

But now you've been promoted to be an executive and you're in a boardroom and now you have a suit on.

And it's not as though that you have to try to fake who you are.

And then I was with him with a group of other guys and he was talking in a way that I thought, what are you a teenager?

Gossiping and slandering.

And I really lost respect because I thought he was above that.

Like someone who has a manner of speech and their character matches with how they talk in public and in private.

And Paul Peter is just saying that you're now believers in a whole new kingdom.

You guys are you have to understand you guys are princes now.

And when you're there, we're not going to be talking on this very surface human level like the pagans do.

You're not going to be looking for retribution.

Why be envious if you are a son of the king?

Yes.

So let your conversation match the character of actually who you are.

And it is interesting self talk, the way that I talk to myself and the way that I talk to other people really does reflect my identity.

If I'm an insecure person, just give me the right situation and out of my mouth, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

If Christ is holy, I'm made in the same image.

I see the bigger picture.

And that manner of conversation will come out and it'll reflect who I actually am connected with, which is the father.

He's holy.

Therefore, his children should be reflecting the same nature.

Yeah.

So let's take the apostle Paul, who at the time is Saul, Acts chapter nine.

He's walking on the road to Damascus.

In his heart are murmurings and Mhmm.

You know, he he, how does this say it?

But, basically, he's looking to kill Christians.

He has, just murderous thoughts.

He's zealous.

Zealous and all those things.

Self righteous.

What happens?

He he is arrested by the grace of God.

Right?

他来到神的面前。

He comes into the presence of God.

他被这光刺瞎了眼睛。

He's blinded by it.

他在那里经历了一整件事。

He has a whole experience there.

亚拿尼亚奉命按手，几天后，鳞片脱落了。

And Ananias is used to lay hands and the scales fall off after several days.

关键在于，他因上帝的临在而被彻底改变。

The whole point is what happens is that he's transformed by the presence of God.

Doesn't become the Apostle Paul who reverts back to his position as the chief pharisee and, you know, all the all the the the what he had gained by having his, you know, his fellowship with those high priests.

He's the alpha guy.

There's not a person that's more religious than him.

And and instead of saying, like, I have stature in this life, he becomes the least of the least.

Right?

I'm the chief of all sinners.

And it all happens because he's he's met the presence of God, And all that was his previous life is now gone.

Mhmm.

And who he is is the apostle of grace.

And, you know, the whole New Testament or, you know, a good portion of the New Testament that he writes that he's in and and talks about is based completely on who God's made him to be in his position of grace because of God's holiness.

Every person in the scripture that comes into the presence of God, they all fall on their face and they wanna die.

Exactly.

It would be as though that, yeah, I mean, you probably deal with it all the time.

I don't know all the time, but you deal with it in The flesh,

And let's just use this picture.

You have someone who's saying nasty things behind somebody else's back.

And then you as a principal pull both of them into the office and say, Bob, you said these nasty things about Chris.

鲍勃第一反应会说什么？

What is Bob going to say right off the bat?

He's going to go he's going to be embarrassed.

他会想逃走。

He's going to want to run away.

他感到羞愧。

He's ashamed.

他感到内疚。

He's guilty.

但鲍勃有两个选择。

But Bob's got two decisions.

第一，在那一刻，他知道被抓住了。

One, in that moment, he knows he's caught.

他明白这种行为不仅对他自己不好，对克里斯也不好。

He can understand that that behavior is not going to be good for him, nor is it going to be good for Chris.

他可以同意。

And he can agree.

或者鲍勃可以逃离那种情况，说些正确的话，但并不改变自己的行为。

Or Bob can get out of that situation, say all the right things, but not change his behavior.

所以每当有人面临这种情况时，他们完全可以避免去校长办公室。

So whenever someone comes up against, or they can just avoid going into the principal's office.

That's another thing that people can do.

因此，人们可以选择来到神面前，明白祂的要求，意识到自己达不到这些标准，认识到单靠自己无法获得这种地位。

So people can either come into the presence of God, understand what His requirements are, see that they fall short of it, realize that they don't have the ability on their own to attain the status.

我有个问题，喜欢说闲话。

I have a problem gossiping.

我真的不喜欢克里斯。

I really don't like Chris.

他这也不好，那也不好。

He's this and that.

我嫉妒他，或者类似这样的感受。

I'm jealous of him or whatever it might be.

我可以承认这一点，而上帝会说：很好，我可以帮你。

I can admit that and God goes, perfect, I can help you.

你作为校长说：鲍勃，谢谢你坦诚相告。

You as a principal say, Bob, thank you for coming clean.

鲍勃对克里斯说：克里斯，对不起。

Bob says to Chris, Chris, I'm sorry.

鲍勃对校长说：校长，对不起，我错了，但我的生活中确实有这个问题。

Bob says to the principal, principal, I'm sorry, I was wrong, but I have this in my life.

Can you help me?

上帝说：很好。

God goes, perfect.

另一个人说了一堆漂亮话，但离开办公室后却说：那个该死的克里斯。

The other person says all the right things, but then leaves the office and goes, that's stinking Chris.

那个该死的校长。

That's stinking principal.

他们实际上从未改变。

And they never actually change.

或者人类的做法是，他们根本不会走进校长的办公室，因为他们内心深处知道他们错了，但又不希望真相被揭露。

Or what human beings do is they never actually go into the principal's office because they know deep down that they're wrong, but they don't actually want it to be revealed.

对于信徒来说，上帝的圣洁是一件美好的事，因为我们来到祂面前，看到自己在日常行为中多么不足。

For a believer, the holiness of God is a beautiful thing because we come into the presence and we see how far we fall short just in our daily conduct.

但我们的态度不能是：我已经尽了最大努力。

But our attitude has to be not one of, I tried my hardest.

我一直在做你让我做的事，但我的生活依然一团糟。

I'm doing everything that you want me to do, but my life still stinks.

我这个，那个，这个，那个。

I this, that, this, that.

我作为基督徒可以有这种态度，但我毫无成长。

I could have that attitude as a Christian, but I have no growth.

作为校长，你无法帮助这样的人。

You as a principal can't help that person.

如果我来到神面前说：我有愤怒，我有嫉妒，我咒骂过，我在背后说那个人的坏话。

If I come to God and say, have anger, I have jealousy, I cursed, I spoke behind that person's back.

我有问题。

Something's wrong with me.

你已经定义了这是什么。

You already define what it is.

这只是我的本性。

It's just my nature.

我不愿成为那种五十岁还背后捅人、行为像在高中时一样的小人。

I don't want to be that type of small person that is 50 years old and backstabbing people and acting like I'm in high school.

你能把我塑造成我渴望成为的那种人吗？

Can you make me into something more that I want to attain?

我想像基督一样。

I want to be like Christ.

我想摆脱咒骂。

I want to take cursing.

我想承担责备。

I want to take blame.

我不希望让问题变得更严重。

I don't want to make more of a problem.

我希望能以你的爱来解决它。

I want to be the resolution to it with your love.

当这种情况发生时，我是在接纳祂圣洁的标准，我知道自己能够达成，但只是与祂认同，由祂在我里面做工，从而改变我。

When that happens, I'm taking on his standard of holiness, knowing I can achieve it, but then just agreeing with him and he's doing the work in me so that he's changing me.

And when I'm being changed, I'm becoming more of the nature of Christ.

我爱这一点。

And I love that.

别人也喜欢这一点。

And other people love that too.

这就是答案。

That's the answer.

这是一种心灵的改变。

It's a heart change.

And He does it.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we had a lot to say in that fifty minutes.

我认为，当我们在此结束时，最突出的一点是：过去我们的对话之所以停留在过去，是因为我们不知道还有更美好的对话等待着我们。

And, the thing that is standing out as we close here, I think, is that before when our conversations were in the the past, it was because we didn't know there was a big a better conversation to be had.

没错。

Exactly.

当我们来到神的同在中，祂向我们显明了祂是谁，并显明了我的行为表现并不会使我与基督里全新生命隔绝——这生命能决定我未来成为怎样的人、如何行事为人，从得救的那一刻起。

And when we came into the presence of God and he revealed who he is, and he revealed that my performance before Christ does not exclude me from having my life made brand new in Christ can determine who I become and how I act and operate going forward from the point of salvation in Christ.

我们可以活出不因自己不够好而失望的生命，而是活出在基督耶稣里得满足的生命——因为我们本就是被祂分别为圣、被祂称为义的人。

And that we can live our lives not disappointed in who we're not, but we can live our lives fulfilled in who we are, which is in Christ Jesus, made holy because he's made us holy, made righteous because he's made us righteous.

甚至我们的义，也是至高的义。

And even our righteousness is upper righteousness.

这不是我们自己的。

It's not our own.

这是因祂的本性而赐给我们的义。

It's righteousness that's been put upon us by who he is.

这太美了。

That's beautiful.

一位基督徒辅导员告诉我，我们在帮助向上使命中心工作，他接触的是成瘾者。

One one, counselor told me, a Christian counselor, we do work over at the Helping Up Mission, and he deals with addicts.

他说，你必须明白的一点是，如果你要从一个人身上拿走什么，你最好给他更好的东西。

He said, the one thing you have to understand is that if you're going to take something away from somebody, you better give them something better.

而且。

And

这正是我们希望去做的。

that's what we hope to do.

虽然我们知道这是真实的，也希望别人明白这一点：有时我们并没有看到基督完全宝贵，或完全是我们答案的全部。

And while we know that to be true, and we want other people to know that that is true, that there is sometimes that we don't see Christ as being fully valuable or fully the answer.

And we think as though, oh, he wants to take this away from me.

他会给我什么呢？

What is he going to give me?

某种僵化的宗教计划，让我靠自己的意志去遵守？

Some sort of stiff religious program that I have to try to abide by my will?

I can't do that.

我不愿意做。

I don't want to do it.

他从我们身上拿走一些东西，却赐给我们更美好的东西——就是他自己。

He takes something away from us, but gives us something so much better with which is himself.

就是他自己。

Which is himself.

是的。

Yeah.

他赐给我们能力去做到这一点。

And he gives us the power to be able to do it.

是的。

Yes.

这太不可思议了。

That's unreal.

但灵魂和灵魂的光是无法仅用言语表达的。

But the soul and the light of the soul is something that you can't just say with words.

它必须被亲身体验。

It has to be experienced.

这比人们所认为的要简单得多。

And it's a lot easier than people make it out to be.

Yeah.

We went from not a behavioral program.

This is not a behavioral modification program.

Not at all.

So we're we're not living in behavioral modification.

我们活在关系里，这关系是在基督耶稣里的。

We're living in a relationship, and that's in Christ Jesus.
