We're talking about God is sovereign, and so we trust him.

And this idea of God's sovereignty, God being in charge is something that's throughout the Bible.

And, you know, we know in Psalm one fifteen verse three, it says, God does as he pleases.

So this is maybe something that you wrestle with.

The fact that God is in control.

And if He's in control, why do so many chaotic things seem to happen?

And, you know, what does it all mean that God is in control?

And, you know, maybe you struggle with trust issues because, you know, the sovereignty of God is a big a big subject.

Here's a simple definition.

I mean, it's clear and simple.

Does God have the authority over things?

And I think, you know, we have a great book in the Bible, the book of Job, a person who is suffering and experiencing things.

And at the climax of this long trial, we don't know exactly how long it went on for Job.

At the end, Job answered the Lord and said, I know that you can do everything and that no thought can be withheld from you.

And, you know, God can do anything and God also knows what thoughts are being thought before we even know them.

But the idea of sovereignty and the idea of trusting God, it's like it's, you know, it's a it's a category in our Bibles that we that we need now.

You know, maybe you have a verse you land on when you're thinking about that.

Oh, yeah.

I have Romans nine nineteen when it talks about Pharaoh's heart being hardened, then the counter to that would be, well, who could resist God's sovereignty if he hardens Pharaoh's heart, then where is the free will?

And then, let me get it exactly right because it's not in this book I'm reading right there.

The follow-up is verse 20, Nay, but oh man, this is a rebuke, Nay, but oh man, who are you that reply against God?

And then the argument regarding that is, well then what about free will?

So there's Paul defending sovereignty and also our attitude about sovereignty.

I think we have two themes here.

One is what is sovereignty and what is my attitude about it?

That's basically what it's saying.

You know, throughout the week, we've been addressing these questions.

You know, we always go.

I think we get into those arguments about predestination election, these terms that were introduced during the Reformation period, John Calvin, others were talking about this idea really using the book of Romans, which is really talking about the overarching rule of God in all of life.

Paul is saying in those first three chapters in particular, the need of every person to become transformed in a way to be born again.

He doesn't use those terms in Romans, but Jesus did.

You must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God.

And I guess that's the the idea of like, you know, what does it mean to trust and what does it mean to have our own freedom and, how do we see God?

Like, it seems to me that these things are instead of battle words, you know, we know that there's been like, you know, throughout church history, like John Wesley in particular was of a certain persuasion.

And another man, Charles Simeon and others, were of another persuasion about election and predestination and whether we could be secure in our salvation.

And the idea of God being sovereign and us being elected unto salvation is like these are words for comfort, not words for drawing up battle lines.

And how much is going on over here in the theological circles?

It's a comforting thing and it's designed for it to build trust in us rather than to create a conflict, right?

Election, I mean, what we're talking about is the standard debate between a Calvinist or a hyper Calvinist and an Armenian and free will versus sovereignty.

But I like what you just said that when Jesus said, I have chosen you, I have chosen you, so in John 15.

Can we realize it must be that God has called me?

But let's go deeper into communion.

And communion is logic, there is logic in the communion, but there's something more, personal words that go to your heart, you know, words that go beyond just pure reason.

There's another part about sovereignty that I think we have to realize and that is that there is an unfolding in history of God's plan.

And whether you're talking about what century you're talking about to realize that God is sovereign in history and history is actually going somewhere.

It's going toward the second coming of Christ.

Heaven has the ultimate authority for what happens in the world.

Many times we are in micro viewing our own lives, know, why did I get a flat tire?

You know, why didn't I get that job?

The sovereignty of God and the unfolding of history and where it is going, would you like to say something about Pastor?

The way that God is you mean the way that God is allowing and guiding the progression of things?

It's a mystery to us.

It's, you know, it's a great mystery to us that, you know, that there's that things progress the way they do.

We know that, yeah, this is the ultimate event that will happen is when Jesus returns again.

Jesus became a human being, lived as a human being.

And I think our relationship to Christ maybe should help us form an idea.

And it's a concept that that even Christ in in in the person as a human being had to learn obedience.

He has revealed his determination to us on a certain level.

And that gives us sort of an ability to trust him and to trust, you know, to to trust the decisions that we make according to the scriptures.

That's the way I think that because we know where the scriptures are going and we know where the plan of the ages is going from eternity to eternity.

Because we see that in the Bible, then we can know that the decisions we make today will ultimately contribute to that ultimate reality that God will bring to our planet.

To think of God testing us, so here we have Abraham offering up his son.

But the point is that in all of life, you have a sovereign God behind everything and He's accomplishing His purposes, but he's allowing people with free will to make decisions that have value.

And that's why I think, you know, all the books of the Bible are important, but when we get to that that space in our Bible that they call wisdom literature, I think it's really important that it starts with Job.

We are introduced to because I think, you know, Job is an older manuscript, an older story, you know, from the time of Genesis and the books of Romans and the books of Moses, rather, the books of Moses.

And this is, I think, a great a great mystery for I don't think as much as Satan can understand things, there's something he cannot understand within the relationship between God and man.

And like the reason God allows these, you know, why did God allow Job to go through this?

I think there's trust issues going both ways.

God trusted Job and believed that Job was a man who was blameless and eschewed evil and a man who was in constant conversation with him.

So he's saying, can allow this to happen to him, and I can watch him defeat the devil and the devil's plan to have him curse me.

But there's very you know, every now and then you get that very great human interest story about someone who triumphed.

Yeah, this is very good.

Isaiah, the pain in life, the thing that's lacking, like Ecclesiastes said, that which is lacking, like there's no end to it, that which is crooked cannot be made straight.

So we are placed in a world that we cannot successfully scrutinize or evaluate what is really happening, but we can live by faith and be humble and worship God and trust Him.

And then, Oh, the depths both of the wisdom and knowledge of God is past finding out.

So let's rest in that.

Like it's an awesome thing what God is doing.

One other point I'd like to make, which I really look for this opportunity to say the following.

The atheist will say, well, if God is so powerful and so wise, then why is there suffering?

The thing they don't know is that there is a day at the end of the Bible we read, there's a new heaven and new earth, there's no weeping, no crying, no tears, there's no pain.

So they say now they're out of time, timing is bad.

Well, like if you would be wise enough to, like, understand that that day is coming, there's a process going on.

And we couldn't handle knowing all of that, you know, like you don't get an explanation.

The Lord is a God of justice.

Atheists, we could wait.
