So we've been talking about, well, Pastor Sturge, you know, we could ask ourselves a question, what is God looking for in a man?

These are men with a faith that takes a step sometimes into the unknown but finds the rock beneath, real men of God.

And God is searching for such men.

It's interesting when the scripture talks about God's search for for men, it actually starts out by saying it's God's search for a man.

We're not called corporately by God.

We're called individually by God.

So he seeks for each one of us individually, and then, of course, brings us, incorporates us into his body, the body of Christ.

But that call is initially for a man, searching for a man, seeking out a man, a man that he can put his spirit and a new heart into that person.

And I'd like to just open up by saying, what what's the difference between a man and a child?

First Corinthians 13.

We spoke on this at a teen rally.

We were just talking to Sebastian.

This was years ago.

And I remember I had pastor Doug Wombold, who's about two hundred pounds heavier than I am and taller than me.

And I said, who's more of a man than me?

And it was like, they got the point that it's not muscle that makes a man.

It's not, you know, it's not physical.

It's what's in the heart.

And I love what Paul said in verse 11 of one Corinthians 13.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child.

I understood as a child.

I thought as a child.

Well, how do children speak and understand and think?

They understand and they speak and they think from their own little world.

And that's their their world is very small and it revolves around them.

And as long as a man or a young man is in that sphere and doesn't get out of it, whether it's living at home with mom and dad playing video games, eight hours a day and not going to work or whatever, you know, you can just picture that in your mind.

But that's a child.

That's a child.

A child is a man.

It's a male who's never got out of the self life.

And I love Paul's description about that.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child.

I understood as a child.

But when I became a man, what did I do?

I put away childish things.

And what did what did I substitute for the childish things?

Verse four of first Corinthians 13.
爱。
Love.

Wow.
基督的爱。
The love of Christ.
爱。
Love.

Love.

This is a this what a what a great definition of a man of God.
爱是恒久忍耐，又有恩慈。
Love suffers long and is kind.
爱是不嫉妒。
Love does not envy.
爱是不自夸。
Love does not parade itself.
不自大。
It is not puffed up.
不作失礼的事。
It does not behave rudely.
它不求自己的益处。
It does not seek its own.
这一点很重要。
That's a big one.
它不轻易发怒。
It is not provoked.
它不计算人的恶。
It thinks no evil.
它不因不义而欢喜，却与真理同乐。
It does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth.

It bears all things.

It believes all things.

It believes the best.

Hopes all things.

And I love this, and endures all things.

That's a man.

Love never fails or never quits.

What a great definition of of manhood.

Yeah.

You just described it to what the apostle Paul wrote there under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

That is biblical manhood, isn't it?

And we're gonna focus on two things regarding the masculinity of men, real biblical masculinity.

And those two things are vision and coverings.

Spiritual vision is so important in the life of the first of all, for the man himself.
他必须能够看清自己在基督里的身份。
He has to be able to see who he is in Christ.

He has to have that personal sense of identity, which without which, I'm not so sure what a man can accomplish.

I mean, from the world's point of view and the world standard, he might be able to accomplish a great deal.

But what about from divine viewpoint?

What about an eternal perspective?

Spiritual vision, on the other hand, is that capacity to perceive divine truths.

I mean, could we say, is a man really operating in his manhood if he doesn't perceive divine truth?

Think about that.

What about eternal realities?

I'll never forget reading the story of a mother who was diagnosed with a disease that could not be cured, and she was facing her final days, and she called for her husband to the bedside, and her final request to him was quite it was quite simple, but it was profound.

They had several children, and she just simply said this, keep eternity before their eyes.

Keep eternity before their eyes.

If a man really wants to be a man of God, he has a responsibility to keep eternity before the eyes of his wife, before the eyes of his children, before the eyes of his companions, associates, and friends.

Keep eternity before their eyes.

And then what about God's purpose?

Beyond physical sight, I mean, you know, you and I are looking at each other as this podcast gets underway on this Friday morning.

We see each other, but that's not what real vision is from the biblical point of view.

It sees so much more than that.

And this spiritual vision acts almost like a crucial guide for life's direction, for life's decisions, and for our spiritual growth.

We need it, and we need it now more than ever before.

Yeah.

Moses endured as seeing him who is invisible.

Again, the the first Corinthians 13, love endures all things.

How do we endure?

We see Jesus.

We see Him who is What a contradiction that verse is in Hebrews chapter 11.

He endured as seeing Him.
你怎么能看见那看不见的呢？
How do you see Him who is invisible?
通过信心的眼睛。
Through the eyes of faith.
是的。
Yeah.
想想这一点。
And think about this.
我们刚才在讨论。
We were talking earlier.

A father, father, he's got to see Jesus for his family.
这不关乎他本人。
It's not about him.

It's not I'm going to be the dad and I'm going to do it my way.

And I'm going to just, the way my dad raised me, I'm going to raise you.

And it becomes this self confident type of a thing where you lose sight of Christ and it's on you.

And it's so important as a father, and we know because we've had kids, is every dad gets to that point where he runs out of his own ability to be a father.

You end up on your knees with the Lord Jesus Christ saying, help.

I need to see you.

I need to see you in this.

I need to see your vision for my children.

I need to see what you think about my children.
你的愿景，主啊。
Your vision, Lord.
你对我孩子们的人生有什么愿景？
What what is your vision for my kids' life?
求你让我在养育这些孩子时，进入你的计划中。
And bring me into that as I raise these kids.
哇。
Wow.
这才是真正的愿景。
That's vision.
你知道吗，如今人们经常谈论某某是白手起家的人。
You know, you hear so much today about people talking about, well, so and so is a self made man.
我们不需要成为白手起家的人。
We don't need to be self made.
我们不想成为自力更生的人。
We don't wanna be self made man.
我们想成为上帝所造的人。
We want to be God made men.
上帝能将我们塑造成祂原本计划我们成为的样子。
And God can make us into the men that he intended for us to be.
想想看，这多么令人惊叹：甚至在我们来到这个世界之前，甚至在我们的父母见到我们、给我们取名之前，上帝就已经认识我们、呼召我们，并为我们预备了旨意。
Isn't that amazing to think that when even before we stepped into life, even before our parents laid eyes on us, before they gave us a name, God knew us and God called us and God had a purpose for us.
如果一个人一生都未曾打开自己的行囊，去发现上帝究竟要他成为怎样的人、要做怎样的事，那该是多么悲哀啊。
How tragic it would be for a man to go through life and not to unpack his bags to find out exactly who God wanted him to be and exactly what God wanted him to do.
而这一切，正是上帝的灵在我们生命中完全参与的工作。
And this is something that the spirit of God is completely involved within our lives.
他希望向我们揭示这一点。
He wants to reveal that to us.
上帝的灵希望通过祂的引导和启示上帝的旨意，赐给我们永恒的视角，赐给我们来自上方、而非来自世俗的智慧，从而增强我们的决策能力。
The spirit of God wants to show us through his guidance and revealing God's purpose, wants to give us that eternal perspective, wants to give us almost an enhanced decision making power that comes from above, not with wisdom from below.
祂希望赐给我们真理与辨识力去行走，赐给我们安全与平安，这一切以及更多，都是上帝为我们生命所预备的。
He wants to give us truth and discernment to walk in and security and peace, all of this and so much more is what God has for our lives.

And that's why vision is so important.

I think that's why the apostle Paul said, we gotta learn to stop looking at the things which can be seen, but we've got to start focusing on the things which cannot be seen.

The things which are seen, temporal.

For a man to be caught up in a temporal world would be for that man to miss out on the eternal purpose for which he was created.

And also, think about this, not only what looking at the things that are not seen, but seeing the one that sees me.

And I I thought of what Jesus said, when you do your good works, don't do them before men to be seen of men, but before your father.

Your father who sees in secret.

Now think about this as a father, as a dad.

I'm not going to be there all the time for my kids.

What do I wanna leave them with to to to to be their stability for their life?

It's not me.

I'm gonna be out of the picture in a matter of a few years.

And then and then what?

And their mother as well.

It's they need they need that personal relationship with Christ.

And I I remember just, you know, teaching Bible to the kids in the school, you know, for years.

And my one one desire was, and I can feed you this book, but I want you to learn to feed yourself.

I want you to learn to feed yourself with this book because we're not all gonna be we're not always gonna be here for you.

And it's so important for for for young young men to really get that, like, wait a minute.

I need I need a relation I need a real relationship with the the Lord Jesus Christ for myself so that I have a vision for my own life when people aren't around to encourage me in it.

We think of what the psalmist wrote.
少年人怎样才能洁净他的行为呢？
How shall a young man cleanse his way?

By taking heed unto God's word.

Right?

We're living in a dark world that seems to grow darker almost daily.
在这个黑暗的世界里，我们需要什么？
And what do we need in this dark world?
我们需要神的话。
Well, we need the word of God.

Yeah.
再次引用诗篇119篇105节：你的话是我脚前的灯，是我路上的光。
Again, Psalm 119 verse one zero five, thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
如果你需要那光，需要那指引，需要能看清前方的道路，那么没有比神的话更好的资源了。
If you are you need that light, you need that direction, you need to be able to see what lies ahead, you don't have a better resource than the word of God.
年轻人沉浸于上帝的话语中有多重要？
And how important is it for a young man to immerse himself in the Word of God?
这只会加强他的信心。
It's only going to strengthen his faith.

You mentioned earlier about a child growing up to become a man.

I mean, think of how often the scriptures speak to men and says to them, grow up, grow up, become a man.

Yeah.

That's so critical, for these hours that we find ourselves living in.

John the Apostle in one John two eighteen said, You're living in the last hour.

He says the last hour.

And, you know, Antichrist spirits abound in the world that we live in today.

We need discernment.

We need wisdom.

We need to know that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Yeah.

And in addition to the vision, the second thing we're talking about today is a covering.

We need a covering.

We really do.

I was thinking about this verse that years ago, we heard it here, and you mentioned it about a young man.

Every open vessel which has no cover fastened on it, it is unclean.

Every open vessel which has no cover fastened on it is unclean.
有多少年轻人没有遮盖呢？
How many young men have no covering?
没有遮盖。
No covering.
因此，他们的心思是不洁净的。
And therefore, their minds are unclean.

They're confused about who they are.
他们可能对自己的性别感到困惑。
They're confused about maybe their gender.
他们对自己的身份感到困惑。
They're confused about their identity.
他们从哪里获取这些线索呢？
And where do they get their cues from?
他们从那个我们经常看的小盒子——iPhone、电视机——中获取这些信息。
They get it from that little box that we look at, that iPhone, that television set.

And then the world becomes their covering.

The world becomes a false covering to them.

And isn't that interesting?
这个世界的神是谁？
Who is the god of this world?

Satan.

And what was Satan in heaven?

He was the anointed cherub that covers.

So he went from an anointed cherub that covers to become the evil devil who exposes.

And and I I was thinking about that that what what is it?

When you take a covering away, what are you left with?

You're left with vulnerability.

You're vulnerable and you're exposed.

Those two things.

And what a picture of the young people.

I I drive by a high school every day to and from my house, and I look at these kids walking down the street, and I think, oh god.

They are they are so exposed.

They're just they they need so much you.

They need you, Jesus, so much.

But the the subject of a covering is is incredible.

There's so and there's so many verses in the word about about being covered.

I I say, you know, Isaiah twenty eight twenty.

For the bed is too short to stretch on it, and the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself in it.

You know, this is what these kids are doing.

They're grasping, these boys.

They're grasping for anything that they can to cover them, but it's not enough.

And and when when we when we surrender ourself to the anointed Christ, we have the we have all the covering that we need.

And then also to the people around us.

Right?

A child needs a a godly father.
对吧？
Right?
我们需要敬虔的老师、敬虔的教练、敬虔的牧者。
We need godly teachers, godly coaches, godly pastors.
这些男人都是谁？
What who are all these men?
他们是年轻人成长过程中的保护者，就像你所说的。
They're coverings for young men in the process of them growing up, like you said.
他们是如何成长的？
How do they grow up?
他们必须有保护者
They have to have a covering
是的。
Yeah.

In order to grow up properly.

Yeah.

In the home.

In the home.

In the family from a father Yeah.

Or from a trusted friend that's a believer.

I mean, that isn't that essential to experience God given manhood that you guard your heart, that you keep it with all diligence?

I'm reminded of a story, that it that happened in, I think, by maybe the country of Switzerland, way up in the mountains.

One of the number one things, if you're a dad or you're you're in any kind of position, is just prayer for the people under you.

And because we can't do it.

Without him, we can do nothing.

You know?

Imagine if if God, you know, raised up men and the the express purpose for which he raised them up was to pray for others, that they would be intercessors, not only for their own children, but for the for other people's children, for the generation that exists in our world today.

I mean, there's another great vision, another great purpose for men.
耶稣不是确实说过这些话吗？
And didn't Jesus actually say that?
路加福音18章1节说，人应当常常祷告，不可灰心。
Luke eighteen one, men ought always to pray and not to faint.

I mean, what a covering that is for others when men pray and when men seek God with all their heart and they pursue Him.

You know, it's just there's been some movements throughout the history of the church.

The one that most recently comes to my mind are what was that movement that happened out in Colorado?

It was a football coach, Colorado's university football coach, and it'll come to my mind.

Promise keepers.

And because, you know, I was always a little reluctant to want to be a part of that because I'm not very good at keeping my promises.

But I love the idea behind it.

I mean, and he was instrumental in raising up a generation of men who said, listen, men, let's keep our promise to God.

And you don't have to join a group like that to be the kind of men that God wants us to be.

You just have to stay, again, under the covering of the word, under the covering of a local church, a pulpit, you know, get into a good Bible believing church.

But if you don't have one, come to ours.

Absolutely.

But find a Bible believing church where the word of God is proclaimed, where your faith can grow, where a vision for your life is imparted, and you have a covering so that you can continue to grow and experience godly masculinity.

Because God has that for us.

It's his plan.

It's his purpose.

Don't underestimate the influence of a godly leader, a godly man

They can make all the difference.

I mean, I was discipled by a godly man.

I was brought to faith by a godly man.
