Speaker 0

Five weeks.

Speaker 0

Welcome to the Grace Hour show, everyone.

Speaker 0

This is a Christian podcast.

Speaker 0

You just caught us in a moment maybe there.

Speaker 0

Thanks, Jehu.

Speaker 0

Put that on the air.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

We're coming to you live from, Greater Grace Church in Baltimore.

Speaker 0

I'm pastor Steve Andrulonis, one of the pastors here at the church ministry in Baltimore, fruitful ministry.

Speaker 0

We've just gotten through the Easter season.

Speaker 0

And with me, Pastor Tom Schaller, the pastor of our church, leader of our church here in Baltimore.

Speaker 0

And we talk about things here on this podcast.

Speaker 0

We want you to learn about what God is trying to do and say to us.

Speaker 0

So we are talking about a subject that maybe, you know, you might be confused about obedience.

Speaker 0

You know, that's this week, we've been talking about discovering God's will on the program, how that happens, what is the will of God for our lives.

Speaker 0

I think people lots of books have been written about it.

Speaker 0

People want to know.

Speaker 0

I think they're trying to find the secret formula for the secret sauce that they can put in their life and their life would be as they would want it to be.

Speaker 0

But obedience is a big topic and it came early because in Genesis two, the Lord commanded the man.

Speaker 0

So he commanded the man a couple of things, fruitful, multiply, and cultivate the garden that he had been set in.

Speaker 0

So the man had work to do.

Speaker 0

He had a relationship with the woman given to him to nurture, and he had a command to be fruitful and produce children that would fill the earth.

Speaker 0

And, that was, you know, the first, instruction.

Speaker 0

And the one prohibition, you know, was that here's a tree over here, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Speaker 0

You know, if you eat that tree, you're gonna die.

Speaker 0

It's like just just just just letting you know, don't eat of it and you won't die.

Speaker 0

But we know the the outcome of that.

Speaker 0

Right, pastor?

Speaker 0

The outcome was that it was eaten of and the fact that we are in bodies of death, you know, our hair grows gray.

Speaker 0

And you were talking, I think, was it yesterday or the other day at the rap session, you were reading that last chapter of Ecclesiastes and going through all that, like, you can't hear singing girls anymore.

Speaker 0

Your joints are bad.

Speaker 0

Your eyes are dim.

Speaker 0

You have no desire for women anymore.

Speaker 0

All of that stuff happens because of, you know, simple disobedience to the one command that they were given in the garden.

Speaker 0

So anyway, thank you, Adam and Eve.

Speaker 0

总之。

Anyway.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Obedience in the Garden of Eden and life would have been a lot different.

Speaker 1

Our outer man perishes.

Speaker 1

We die, our bodies fall apart because of sin, right?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And so the disobedience brought a curse and we live in that and see it around us all the time.

Speaker 1

But then there is that cry in the heart, this groaning for the eternal and for a better world and that's also in the picture.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Now you were preaching last night and you were talking about the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, and the nature of the Spirit helping us in what we're doing so that we hold fast to those, you know, like you talked from this, you know, interesting passage.

Speaker 0

I think we could go to that passage, The second Kings passage, the interesting passage that, you know, after there was this invasion and resettlement, really.

Speaker 0

This is like a seems to be a pattern of empires over the course of human history.

Speaker 0

Like you conquer a people and in order and in order to sort of divide them so that they can organize and become a a force of a force that works together, they are, you know, they are resettled to different places.

Speaker 0

You probably have read more on this than I have.

Speaker 0

You like a war history and everything like that.

Speaker 0

But I from what I understand, there was a plan in the Nazi regime to resettle Hollanders, people from The Netherlands to some place in Eastern Europe.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Then re know, just sort of

Speaker 1

people to Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Just to get them sort of off balance.

Speaker 0

And this is what happened with Assyria.

Speaker 0

They took the 10 tribes that were from that northern kingdom, and they repopulated, they resettled them all up in East in Central Asia, I think, and all the way down into what was Persia and what's now Iran, obviously.

Speaker 0

So but like when they brought people that were not of that were not of Israel to the promised land, then, you know, the lions populated and they didn't know the god of the land.

Speaker 0

It's like the land is like still a pretty important part of the dynamic of what God wants to do with this world, right?

Speaker 1

It's in two Kings seventeen twenty five.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So it was at the beginning of their dwelling there that they feared not the Lord, therefore the Lord sent lions among them which slew some of them.

Speaker 1

This is in Deuteronomy, the Lord promised in its seven twenty two when the people were not obeying God, the lion population increased and there was a judgment on the people because of that.

Speaker 1

So now the foreigners have moved into the land and now they're getting eaten by lions and they recognize that there's a spiritual reason behind this and we need to learn about the God of the land.

Speaker 1

And we said last night that like we gotta look it up in the manual, you know, why, who is the God of the land have to say about this?

Speaker 1

So they but it said they did not fear God.

Speaker 1

But they were like willing to accommodate like almost by superstition, you know, like how we can be superstitious and we can obey the like don't walk under a ladder or something about a black cat and crack in the sidewalk and these kind of things.

Speaker 1

But a rabbit foot in a basketball game.

Speaker 1

Like you can obey those things, but it doesn't mean that you're obeying God.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

I think maybe we think of obedience, it's not enforced.

Speaker 0

It's an option.

Speaker 0

It's like in Deuteronomy, you mentioned Deuteronomy there.

Speaker 0

They disobeyed.

Speaker 0

And so the lion population later on, God said, I put before you two ideas, one of life and one of death.

Speaker 0

If you choose the way of life, then things will be this way.

Speaker 0

If you choose the way of death, then you open yourself up to the consequences of that.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

And, you know, just like in the story in Numbers, the people grumbled, they murmured, The snakes were let loose.

Speaker 0

That's another wild animal, biting people and, you know, poisonous, you know, deadly.

Speaker 0

And then there's one one rule.

Speaker 0

There's a, you know, make a serpent of brass, put it on a pole, lift it up.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

So here's the instruction.

Speaker 0

You know, it's up to you to apply that instruction to your life.

Speaker 0

If you look to the serpent, you're healed.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And in the Passover, the culmination of all the plagues, the obedience was not mandated.

Speaker 0

It wasn't, like, enforced.

Speaker 0

It wasn't, like, at gunpoint, do this.

Speaker 0

Like, you know, people who are persecuted in throughout the world reject Christ or die, you know, and that that's happened to people throughout the ages since Christianity came on the scene.

Speaker 0

But, you know, there's an option there at the Passover.

Speaker 0

You could put the blood on your doorposts and go into the room and be saved from death, or you could take your chances, so to speak.

Speaker 0

And that's really, I think, the thing when we're talking about obedience, you know, really God has given certain commands, precepts, statutes.

Speaker 0

These things are ways of living.

Speaker 0

And he's saying, you know, I made you in your image.

Speaker 0

You have an ability to reason and and rationalize and, you know, it's your choice.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So, what you're saying I think is the Lord wants to draw us to His So, there can be like a mechanical obedience which would be without heart, like in the military, you obey your officer, but do you have a heart for it?

Speaker 1

Not necessarily.

Speaker 1

You salute him, but in your heart you don't, not wish him.

Speaker 1

So, what the Lord is saying to us that you're made in my image, I know your heart, I know what your motivation is, and I want obedience on that level out of love.

Speaker 1

Like I want a relationship, you know.

Speaker 1

So there is a distinction between those two obediences, you could say.

Speaker 1

One is you know, obligatory and it is by law and okay, you can do it.

Speaker 1

And that's very good.

Speaker 1

I mean, we're not decrying that or demeaning it, but we are like more interested as we see in Jesus' ministry and in His teaching.

Speaker 1

I want your heart.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know, the manner of the god of the land that these people were trying to placate like you do with idols.

Speaker 0

You know, the idea is you're trying to win.

Speaker 0

Like, if I pay this, if I pay this measure of obedience to this idol, then I will get what I want.

Speaker 0

So it's sort of more of a transaction.

Speaker 0

But you were saying in the message last night and from that passage that the people did not understand the fear of the Lord.

Speaker 0

They didn't enter into a relationship with him.

Speaker 0

They didn't have a awesome sense of who he is.

Speaker 0

That's the way I think.

Speaker 0

When we talk about the fear of the Lord, we're not talking about the fear that brings us tormented that God's going to strike us down.

Speaker 0

But what God is trying to initiate and what he tried to initiate with the first man and the woman is, I'm telling you something, if you just believe me and love me, you know, do this out of love because I I love you.

Speaker 0

I'm telling you about this tree because I love you.

Speaker 0

And if you just obey me because you love me, then, you know, that's like sort of an honor and an awesomeness and an intimacy that God was even trying to bring to these people who had come to his land.

Speaker 0

Like, if they would fear the Lord.

Speaker 0

Did this priest know did the priest who was sent there know what he was talking about?

Speaker 0

That's a good question.

Speaker 0

Because I mean, apparently, had a ministry, but it wasn't a ministry that got people to worship the God of heaven.

Speaker 0

It was, you know, they just added it to it's what you were trying to figure out what the word was.

Speaker 0

They added it to it's their collection.

Speaker 0

They have, oh, it's just another God.

Speaker 0

We'll put him just on the shelf with all our other gods.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

This is, you know, and, you know, I think Nebuchadnezzar originally thought God was just another.

Speaker 0

You know, he was a big God, maybe bigger than all the other gods, but he didn't realize just how the God of Daniel and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, just how much higher he was than the God that was in his land, you know, and he learned that.

Speaker 0

You know, it's kind of interesting story.

Speaker 0

I was reading it this morning, just, you know, Daniel four, he has a dream and, you know, and Daniel says, I got to tell you, Nebuchadnezzar, that if you recognize who God is and you serve Him in humility and you care for the needy and you do justice and walk humbly with God, then things will be okay.

Speaker 0

But if you live in pride, then you're going to be disciplined till you recognize who God really is.

Speaker 0

And so, I mean, this is really the, you know, here's an heathen king, a brutal king from all a murderous king in some ways, a prideful king, you know, we see.

Speaker 0

But then he winds up, you know, really praising the Lord at the end of chapter four, you know.

Speaker 0

Nebuchadnezzar praises the Lord,

Speaker 1

you know.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

He looks like he became a believer.

Speaker 0

Yeah, really.

Speaker 1

I mean, he was straight up pagan, I mean, tyrannical, but he was humbled.

Speaker 1

I mean, that's a story to show us how God works.

Speaker 1

And he takes a proud pagan king and humbles him an idolater, and he knows no other.

Speaker 1

But now he humbles him and mean he has a great confession.

Speaker 1

Great confession.

Speaker 1

I mean, it's amazing, a transformation from his heart.

Speaker 1

Looks like like will we see him in heaven?

Speaker 0

I believe so.

Speaker 1

I mean, that's amazing.

Speaker 0

I think like God, you know, I mean, when we take those passages in Proverbs and other, you know, like, you know, he chastises those he loves, you know.

Speaker 0

I mean, he, you know, he had an idea and then when his pride swelled up, God said, okay, here's seven times, you know, whatever the seven months, seven years, seven weeks, whatever happened there, you know, he was he was disciplined until he till it says he gave glory to the God of heaven, and then he praised him, you know.

Speaker 0

So Yeah.

Speaker 0

The chastisement idea is the I think the is the one that recognizes the relationship.

Speaker 0

You know, you tell that story about Justin and the bicycle.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

You know, the bicycle is not the issue.

Speaker 0

It's the idea I would like you to have your bicycle, you know, because you might have a paper route and you want to serve papers on your bicycle.

Speaker 0

You know, I gave you the bicycle out of love, and I'd like you to keep the bicycle, and I'm telling you how to make sure it doesn't get stolen off the back porch.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And you could choose to listen to you.

Speaker 0

You know, like God is saying, I'm telling you about this tree.

Speaker 0

If you don't eat from it, then death won't be it.

Speaker 0

If you put the bicycle in the garage every night, then the chances of the neighborhood thief taking it away from you is greatly diminished.

Speaker 0

Just believe me because I I know what happened to my bicycle.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 0

You said that verse before, like the wise, an obedient ear, you know, wise reproved to an obedient ear is like a blessing, right?

Speaker 1

Uh-huh.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

We're Emil is smiling because we're dating ourselves like he might have a paper route, you know, with the bite.

Speaker 1

Remember?

Speaker 0

I had one.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I mean, I've seen you remember the years where the kids with the the sack slung around the shoulder?

Speaker 0

I had the whole thing.

Speaker 1

Throwing that but we are totally in a different era.

Speaker 1

More.

Speaker 1

That is over.

Speaker 1

There aren't even any newspapers anymore.

Speaker 0

Don't think so.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But to go back to the point, there was a king Jeroboam who wanted to hijack the Jewish religion in the North, and he did hire priests, you know, but these were lower level guys.

Speaker 1

And I believe it's in this text too in two Kings 17.

Speaker 1

So these are not Orthodox priests, you know, Levitical priests teaching law.

Speaker 1

These are these are off, you know, different different message, different spirit and everything.

Speaker 1

So, I mean, it's a very corrupt era in two Kings 17.

Speaker 1

They're actually saying this is why we are being judged by God because we're really messed up in our understanding of things.

Speaker 1

We've really departed from God.

Speaker 1

So he sends them to Babylon to be corrected, and when they come back they never become idolatrous again, you know?

Speaker 1

And that's in Ezra and so on.

Speaker 1

But to say that the era we are living in today, there are for the Christian many routes that you can go down and have a form of godliness but not have the power.

Speaker 1

You can be obedient but not really in your heart.

Speaker 1

You can have a confession but not like what do you really believe on a Friday night.

Speaker 0

That's true, yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

The other thing, towards the end of the message last night, you can find this message friends if you want to at ggwo.org.

Speaker 0

And go to the sermons.

Speaker 0

I think that'll be posted there at some point.

Speaker 0

You know, when you were talking about the Easter afternoon with your family, I mean, I'm interested, like, when I'm looking in Jeremiah and, you know, you're talking about the captivity and what was the instruction for the people who had been taken to Babylon.

Speaker 0

And I I find that instruction very powerful that, you know, this is what you are to do.

Speaker 0

Your you know, the family, give your daughters to, in marriage, sons, married daughters, have families plow the fields, plant, pray for the peace of the city.

Speaker 0

But like it seems like, you know, like when you're saying like faith and family, you mentioned that like faith and family, when we understand that principle that God initiated to the earth in in the garden.

Speaker 0

You know, family was the first institution there, marriage and then the family that came from it.

Speaker 0

It's like it just seems like this is for lack of like, for all that we could take in and think like, how are we going to change the world that's going chaotic?

Speaker 0

Well, you really can't look macro.

Speaker 0

You have to look micro.

Speaker 0

You have to look at your family.

Speaker 0

And like you said, there's, you know, a family of 40 is a big family, you know, at this stage of life, you know, our case, it's 15 right now.

Speaker 0

You know, us, our kids, their wives and our seven grandchildren.

Speaker 0

So they're, you know, that's, you know, but, you know, Jeremiah got this message from God like this is what you do.

Speaker 0

This and and it created consternation back in the people who were not in captivity yet.

Speaker 0

Like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 0

Pray for the peace of the city.

Speaker 0

It's like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 0

Concentrate on your family.

Speaker 0

We want, you know, we want victory.

Speaker 0

We want triumph.

Speaker 0

And I think like the the Pharisees and the reason they couldn't really look at Jesus for who he was because he's the prince of peace, and they were looking for a man of war.

Speaker 0

And, they were looking for something that would make them, you know, big and bold and boisterous in the world.

Speaker 0

And Jesus has said, it's not about that.

Speaker 0

You're supposed to be a kingdom of priests.

Speaker 0

You're supposed to serve, you know?

Speaker 0

I I don't know.

Speaker 0

I'm just thinking like it's if we listen to these things, obedience may start closer, may start in the house rather than on the street.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I like the way you said about Jeremiah saying, when you go to Babylon, it'll be seventy years.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 1

So the false prophets said two years or that it will not happen, that we will be coming back.

Speaker 1

If we go, we will be coming back right away.

Speaker 1

But Jeremiah is saying no.

Speaker 1

And when you go there, establish your family in Babylon and it's like, what?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Like establish your family and learn like you could say, learn the language, have your families buy property, raise your family, and so on.

Speaker 1

And after seventy years, they will will be coming back.

Speaker 1

And Cyrus was the king who ordered that to happen.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Right on cue.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But your point is that we can have concepts that maybe need to be corrected.

Speaker 1

And we might say that in the words of Jesus, He challenged family and said, Unless you hate your father and

Speaker 0

母亲

mother

Speaker 1

没错。

and That's right.

Speaker 1

So we have the other side of it.

Speaker 1

So we want to make adjustments to like what is our priority, like the mission, the local church, the Gospel, you know, bringing the Gospel to the world.

Speaker 1

And the other side of it is, you know, our family.

Speaker 1

To be honest, I think all of us as Christians want to get the training and the instruction that we need for both of them.

Speaker 1

We need the family to be, know, us talking to each other, meeting as often as it is appropriate, loving each other, caring about each other, holding each other, bearing each other's burdens, and then also being in the local church and then having a world vision.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

No, I think, you know, when we talk about obedience as Christians, and we know that these seemingly outrageously and, you know, like people think, what do you mean these kind of things?

Speaker 0

You know, Jesus is like sort of putting a finger.

Speaker 0

How much do you want to live in my purpose?

Speaker 0

And we know that there's this long stretch of discussion in the upper room before he goes to the cross, John 13 through 17, you know.

Speaker 0

But, you know, in the midst of that, John 14, he says, you believe on me, you're gonna do greater works.

Speaker 0

This is like, I I like, you know, I like the fact that he's talking about what love will do in his disciples there.

Speaker 0

He said, I'm going to go away.

Speaker 0

I said, Okay, but the reason I'm going away is because something greater is going to happen when I go.

Speaker 0

And I think this is I point to this as like the secret to obedience is that if you love me, here it is, keep my commandments.

Speaker 0

And he said the commandments, he talks about this in this love one another as I have loved you.

Speaker 0

This is the great commandment.

Speaker 0

He answered this himself when he was challenged by a priest or a lawyer to say, what is the greatest commandment?

Speaker 0

He said, love the Lord thy God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Speaker 0

So, it's all, do you love yourself?

Speaker 0

And the only way you can really love yourself is you love the Lord.

Speaker 0

And so this is the first obedience.

Speaker 0

And then he said, if you love me, you know, you will keep my commandments.

Speaker 0

And what's the commandment?

Speaker 0

You love me.

Speaker 0

This is the first one.

Speaker 0

Everything else follows after that, I think.

Speaker 0

You know, if you love him, then coveting won't be a problem, which is the tenth commandment.

Speaker 0

You know, it's an all encompassing commandment.

Speaker 0

Do you want somebody else's stuff?

Speaker 0

Again, to go back to last night message, I think you talked about jealousies there a little bit and some of that, like, do you covet somebody else's stuff?

Speaker 0

You know, that kind of stuff.

Speaker 0

And, you know, if to get away from that, you know, just love the Lord thy God and you'll be okay.

Speaker 0

And then the next very next thing, this is 15 in, John fourteen fifteen.

Speaker 0

If you love me, keep my commandments.

Speaker 0

And he says, and I'm going to go to the father, and he will give you a comforter that will abide with you forever.

Speaker 0

The spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him neither knows him, but you know him for he dwells with you.

Speaker 0

And here's the big thing.

Speaker 0

Once I go up, there's gonna be a way for him to be in you.

Speaker 0

And so he says, love me, keep my I can't keep my commandments.

Speaker 0

You know, Peter's gonna find out very quickly overnight that he can't keep even the vow that he made to go to death with Jesus.

Speaker 0

But, you know, but the spirit's gonna come and obedience is gonna be something that the Spirit moves in you.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1

No, I mean, love that.

Speaker 1

John fourteen fifteen, it's, If you love me, keep my commandments.

Speaker 1

And just what you said, I just repeat it back, that if I do keep his commandments in faith out of your heart, yes, okay, Lord, I will do this, then there will be the empowerment.

Speaker 1

It is Him that wills and does, He's able to lead us that way so that we desire to do.

Speaker 1

I mean, do you personally experience that that when you do His will that you grow to desire His will?

Speaker 0

Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 0

And I've learned that my capacity is limited and that there are things that I've had to do, confrontations I've had to have, whatever, apologies I've had to make, you know, making things right when I've done things wrong.

Speaker 0

My capacity was limited, but I had to do it.

Speaker 0

And it was the spirit that did it to will.

Speaker 0

First, just the idea that I needed to do it was from God.

Speaker 0

And I think that's the essence of Philippians two thirteen.

Speaker 0

And he puts in us both the idea of the will and then also gives us the capacity to do what pleases him of his good pleasure.

Speaker 0

So, you know, I'm thinking like I I can't really you know, real obedience only happens when I allow the spirit to to move me in that way.

Speaker 0

You know, we can we can be led that way, whatever our hand finds to do, do it with all our might.

Speaker 0

It's like, you know, a small thing, a small obedience is not seemingly small obedience is really something that, you know, that speaks, you know, speaks to God.

Speaker 0

And, you know, we said, you know, if you are faithful in the little things, then you'll be able to be entrusted with bigger things.

Speaker 1

Would you say about people that like lose their motivation?

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

Is how does that happen?

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

How does that happen?

Speaker 0

I guess that's a big question because maybe we haven't lost it to the degree where we're quitting, know, where we just quit what God has called us to do.

Speaker 0

If you lose your motivation, I think it comes from, I guess, you know, the reason the thing that Jesus really emphasizes the hearing ear.

Speaker 0

Like you said, again, back to that, do you hear proof?

Speaker 0

You know, and I always like that word re proof.

Speaker 0

Like here's the proof of who God is, the proof of his power, the proof is seen in his creation, the proof of his decree is seen in the sunrise and sunset every day.

Speaker 0

And do I listen enough or pay attention enough to that to realize that he is still in control and in, you know, and working things together for good?

Speaker 0

You know, that, you know, when you lose your motivation, how do you resurrect it?

Speaker 0

Know, you could you know, you could try to figure it out, you know, and try and do like five step programs, 10 step programs, buy a new book or something like that, and you you just get another list of principles.

Speaker 0

But, you know, really, I think like without the Spirit, you know, making yourself available to the Spirit and allowing the Spirit to guide you, then, you know, any of those kind of motivations is going to have a short shelf life, you know?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

It's going to have an expiration on it because you're trying to do it in your strength.

Speaker 0

Just like those people in second Kings 17, they added an understanding of the God of the land, the Lord God, but they didn't enter into a full understanding of him in his presence.

Speaker 0

And so, you know, we know that that land, you know, even when Jesus came, it's like it's more distorted than the land, you know, Jerusalem and the temple is distorted.

Speaker 0

But the Samaritans were even more distorted, you know, in some ways, it seems.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

So, somebody loses their motivation.

Speaker 1

For me, what I'm finding out is the people that I'm with help me a lot with my motivation.

Speaker 1

Because a lot of things are not based on intellectual recognition, intellectual qualities, but they're more emotional or you could say affection, like motivation and affection, like what do you desire.

Speaker 1

You don't say, do you wanna ride a horse?

Speaker 1

You might say, well, you could say, why would I ride a horse?

Speaker 1

But somebody might say, would you like to ride a horse?

Speaker 1

Would you enjoy riding a horse?

Speaker 1

Do you enjoy getting up in the morning?

Speaker 1

Do you enjoy going to the church?

Speaker 1

Do you enjoy walking in fit?

Speaker 1

Do you enjoy obeying God, you know?

Speaker 1

Like, it is a big, there's no question about it.

Speaker 1

Our feelings and our affections have a lot to do with motivation.

Speaker 1

So when I lose my motivation as a believer, you know, rediscover it by being with people that are enjoying it.

Speaker 1

I enjoy walking with God.

Speaker 1

I mean what could be interesting than to hang out with a couple of people and say, I love God today.

Speaker 1

Praise God.

Speaker 1

Oh, I'm obeying God.

Speaker 1

God told me to do this or I did this.

Speaker 1

And, I gave some of this money away and I got this blessing.

Speaker 1

Or I said a prayer and He answered me.

Speaker 1

And I mean, these are very interesting stories about obedience and faith.

Speaker 1

And then it appeals to our sense of purpose, relationship, as somebody who's very much in love with God and you can follow that.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I think, you know, that may be the reason the writer of Hebrews said, you know, the manner of some is to forsake the assembling of together, to forsake fellowship.

Speaker 0

And, you know, don't do that.

Speaker 0

He said, you know, it's like an instruction.

Speaker 0

Okay, you can choose to do.

Speaker 0

You can choose to be a lone ranger.

Speaker 0

But, you know, you'll find yourself maybe even seeking, sinking deeper into discouragement and depression.

Speaker 0

But if you can bring yourself to the fellowship and the place that where, you know, two or three are gathered in my name, I, there am I in the midst.

Speaker 0

That's a real presence.

Speaker 0

Jesus is defining real presence.

Speaker 0

Where does it happen?

Speaker 0

It happens in a bond of two or three people coming together and they open the Bible and they're encouraged in that way.

Speaker 0

And so I would also say it's a simple maybe

Speaker 1

if you're a older person, maybe you should be around young people.

Speaker 1

Because young people can be very motivated and excited about what they're doing.

Speaker 1

And you can just observe, Right?

Speaker 1

Like go to the church and observe and look for what God is doing in the church with other people.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And that that's what you were just saying,

Speaker 0

I think.

Speaker 0

Well, mean, Christianity is like it's by its design, you know, Jesus was saying like it will be we know from what it will be ultimately, you know, millions from every tribe, tongue, and nation coming together.

Speaker 0

And it was every church should really be that, you know, it should be a fellowship of, you know, multigenerational, multiethnic, multiracial, multicultural, you know, multi economical, maybe like, you know, there should be rich and poor.

Speaker 0

All of them should be coming together in that way because it's supposed to be a representation of what's to come, you know, and, you know, being obedient to providing that kind of atmosphere is something that, you know, I think pastors and church organizations are given.

Speaker 0

You know, what are you going to are you going to be obedient to, you know, welcoming, you know, as James writes, you know, are you going to be available to every kind of person, not just sitting the rich man in this great special seat, giving him parking space, all that kind of thing?

Speaker 0

Is everyone going to be welcome?

Speaker 0

You know, and that's a that's a big, you know, that's a big thing that, you know, that God has called us to be, you know, a place of refuge and that kind of thing.

Speaker 0

And, you know, that's where I think, like you said, when you get in, you know, when you get around people that have, you know, more natural energy than you, you can get swept up in that a little bit.

Speaker 0

And it's good, right?

Speaker 0

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 0

It's good, you know?

Speaker 1

Yeah, is.

Speaker 1

And we

Speaker 0

can provide wisdom, you know?

Speaker 1

The reason I'm bringing it up is because I think there are elderly people in Ecclesiastes 12, it says, before the evil days come, remember how the Creator in the days of your youth, while the evil days come not, yet thou shall say I have no pleasure in them.

Speaker 1

Like it might be that I lose my it's another segment of a verse, it's in verse five.

Speaker 1

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high and fears shall be in the way, these are older people, the almond tree shall flourish, the grasshopper shall be a burden and desire shall fail because man goes to his long home and the mourners go about the streets.

Speaker 1

So, desire failing, but it says, like you said in Philippians two, it's God that both wills and to do His good pleasure.

Speaker 1

So, like motivation, obey obedience to the commandments, all of this is beautiful.

Speaker 1

And as we do it, we find ourselves motivated in doing good things.

Speaker 0

Yeah, and when you bring together something, when you have a concentration of something, you know, there's power and effectiveness.

Speaker 0

Horsepower is the multiplication, like two horses can do this and then you add another horse, it gets, you know, it's exponential kind of thing.

Speaker 0

When you have like a when you have when you're obedient to the principle of fellowship in the purpose of God, then there's, you know, like Jesus is saying here, He said, You'll do greater works than these, you know, because My Spirit's in you and the concentration of what's happening in you is going to do something, know, something that I don't think people really recognize can recognize naturally.

Speaker 0

Jesus couldn't explain it.

Speaker 0

I can't really tell you how it's going to happen.

Speaker 0

I'm just saying, let me love you and you love each other as I've loved you.

Speaker 0

And that's that's really the essence of obedience.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know.

Speaker 1

And also, you know, when people are told specifically to do something, let's say go one mile, but then it's in their heart to do one mile and go two miles and maybe even they would go three miles and then maybe they would go 55 miles and not be counting it.

Speaker 1

So, like imagine, like the Lord is saying, go with me one mile, but then you end up going 55 and then you're not even thinking like about obedience.

Speaker 1

You just are enjoying who you are with and how it is happening and what you are doing and what it means.

Speaker 1

It'd be like giving money.

Speaker 1

I think there are people in church history that gave enormous amounts of money And if you interviewed them, they would just say, you know, I never did really anything.

Speaker 1

Like they have gone to a realm in a relationship where there's no limits almost.

Speaker 1

And Jesus said, Greater things will you do than what I have done.

Speaker 1

Because I think we are able to go to like limits, like beyond in our hearts because the heart of man is like gold when it's right.

Speaker 0

When it's right.

Speaker 0

When it's right.

Speaker 0

And I think when you're talking about that, like with just about anything, when they're when you're starting out, there are level foundational elements like whether you're playing a piano or guitar, whether you're becoming a plumber and apprenticing, whether you're learning how to code in information technology, it's like, you know, there are basic elements and principles that have to be followed.

Speaker 0

And like in, you know, you know, you you receive Jesus Christ and then, you know, and then the the instruction from the psalmist is that how shall a young man cleanse his way by taking heed to the word of God.

Speaker 0

And it's like developing these patterns of, you know, Jesus said, I gave you these commandments, keep them, treasure them because there is like you said, there is like an energy, there's a multiplication, there's a power that seems to accumulate.

Speaker 0

And before you know it, you've lived for God fifty years.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know, and it started with you coming to an altar.

Speaker 0

And receiving God, your apology.

Speaker 1

And if you were told there at the altar, you know, this is what you're to do, you're going to, I don't believe that and don't talk to me like that because that's just beyond me.

Speaker 1

But then I think of a family, they have five children and then they adopt three more.

Speaker 1

And somebody on the outside of that could say, how do you do?

Speaker 1

Why would you even wanna do that?

Speaker 1

That?

Speaker 1

To them, they're like just living the life.

Speaker 1

This is what they do.

Speaker 1

This is how they think.

Speaker 0

It's all rooted in love.

Speaker 0

Like love.

Speaker 0

My son has taught me that very much.

Speaker 0

Like, how would I give my kidney to my mom?

Speaker 0

And the reason he's been saying is love did it.

Speaker 0

And I'm like, okay, so stop.

Speaker 0

I'm gonna weep here before you know it.

Speaker 0

But it is like, we don't really, you know, you don't know your you don't know how far beyond the limits of you'll go.

Speaker 0

But, you know, you know, Jesus said, keep my commandments.

Speaker 0

It's very simple.

Speaker 0

And what's the first one?

Speaker 0

Love me.

Speaker 0

I've loved you.

Speaker 0

You love me.

Speaker 0

I'll you'll learn how to love your neighbor as you learn how to love me, and then there'll be like a multiplication.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And there'll be a fruitfulness.

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 0

And it goes all the way back to the beginning.

Speaker 0
