Welcome to the Grace Hour Show, a Christian program that takes a deep dive into our daily challenges and helps us learn our faith in a practical way.
My name is pastor Barry Quirk.
I am joined in the studios today by pastor Peter Westera.
This is a great occasion.
Somehow they have allowed us to be on the same broadcast together again, dipping deep into the pool today to let me and you go together.
This could be a mistake.
We thought they learned their lesson last time.
You know what?
Every once in a while, just to keep the other hosts ratings up, they allow us to flounder a little bit.
What a great weekend.
We just came off.
就是那个‘Come on’活动。
Was Come on.
The post graduation.
Amen.
Weekend we had our GGCA graduation.
What a celebration of our young people.
And, when we we're talking about our our topic today being light and how does light chase the darkness, so to speak.
And we saw a lot of shining lights this weekend.
I'm bragging a little bit, but
是的。
Yeah.
You brag on it for a minute, I don't have to say No,
mean, I'm with you on that.
I was very, very edified in the graduation ceremony.
Many of us here, you being at the top of that list, many of us have dedicated our lives to loving young people, many teachers, many youth leaders, and God has helped us do it.
And God has given us love to do it.
And God has given us capacity to do it.
I'm a thousand percent convinced about that.
And then every once in a while, God reveals the work of the teachers, of the parents, everybody.
And sometimes graduations really feel like that to me where in a good way, you're proud and you just see what God is doing.
Yeah, it's rare that we kind of stop and applaud the accomplishment.
I like that we can do that with a little bit of pop and circumstance yeah.
没错。
And Yeah.
And it's, you know, we heard we just saw a lot yesterday or Saturday.
We saw a lot in the, just the the character of those people that were recognized for awards and we heard a great valedictorian speech.
She did take subtle shots at both of us, which And made us laugh, which was,
如果
if
you can accomplish that,
那说明
well It's a
sign of love.
Good job.
Good job.
It's a sign of love.
She felt comfortable enough.
Loves us.
Knew that we loved her.
是的。
Yeah.
But I I really think about you know, the thing that I like about those graduations, you look at the audience and there's so many graduates previous years that are there celebrating.
是的。
Yeah.
And, that's really why we're excited about the work of God as it happens in young people because they're not always gonna be young people.
对。
Mhmm.
We were once young.
Long time ago.
And now, according to the the valedictorian, we're not young anymore.
I was gonna say that it wasn't that subtle, Pastor Barry.
It was blatant and obvious.
Oh, it was a good time.
Good times.
Well, listen, we're talking about an exciting topic today.
You know?
And really something that, you know when when we think about the very beginning of the Bible, Genesis one, you know, in the beginning in the beginning.
And as we think about it, it says in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, let there be light, and there was light.
是的。
Yeah.
And we think about that.
What a what an incredible topic.
Let there be light.
That before he spoke the world into being, you know, there was no there was no light.
And when we consider the progression that happens through the book of Genesis and, there's a pretty big, you know, revelation of man's condition, you know, going from paradise gain to paradise lost, and then the plan of redemption that's laid out for us, and then our receiving Christ to be our savior, and then our daily walk with God and how the light is so important to us in our daily walk with God.
And these are huge, huge topics in the Bible.
And, you know, for us to to think about it for a minute, that there is somebody who's an enemy of the life that was created.
You know, we consider in John ten ten that, you know, the the thief comes to kill and to steal and to destroy, but Christ comes to give abundant life.
And so that principle is clear in the Bible, and and maybe it's something that we can talk about a little bit here today.
Just the the subtlety of the the lie that lives in darkness
和
and
the incredible blatant, exposure of lie that happens when we're walking in the light.
So let's start by saying, what is darkness?
Wow.
是的。
Yeah.
You said it, Genesis.
I had the same meditation this morning.
What an incredible sentence, you know, like Genesis chapter one, first thing you get this voice, you know, this voice, like the the story starts with a bang.
We have a voice, barely know the voice.
It says, God said, who is God?
Is he a person?
Is he a human being?
Is he a body?
Like, right off the bat, God speaks into an abyss into darkness, right?
Like the whole story of the Bible is really about God bringing us who are in darkness light from Genesis literally, but more spiritually in terms of salvation, but also really daily, daily in little ways, there is a battle between darkness and light.
There is a battle in my mind between darkness and light.
There's the old man, there's the effects of the fall and then there's Jesus and there's His words and His life.
So we could read through the Bible as we do so many times in so many different ways with just that in mind, we could see every story of the Bible and then we could see our entire lives as this battle between the presence of Christ in my life and no presence of God.
That's it.
Darkness is there's no Jesus.
There's no God saying, let there be light.
There's no Jesus entering into my life.
So in salvation, that's of course ultimately true.
But then also this morning when I got up, I did not wake up with light in my heart.
I woke up grumpy and tired, dark, and I need some light.
Yeah, I mean, it's interesting even scientifically that darkness is not a substance, it's the absence of a substance.
Right?
没错。
Yeah.
It's it's without the presence of light, there is darkness.
But with the presence of life, there is no darkness.
Darkness can exist with the presence of light.
On our in our daily lives, you know, it's interesting that we're we have an operating system and we've been given a new operating system by the Holy Spirit, but sometimes we slip into our old operating system.
Right?
We can We can be limited by the fact that we we were just saying before we went on the air about the subtlety of the devil.
It might not even be a bad thing or an evil thing that we're thinking in our own minds.
It might be something that's puffed up or vain or we're proud about it.
We think it's such a great idea, but it's only really a great idea because it's left up to our own decision making process to determine whether it's a good idea or a bad idea.
And the presence of light might show us that there's another more important and redemptive way to go about things.
Right?
没错。
Yeah.
So here here we are going through our daily lives and we wake up.
And if our feelings are gonna determine how we go, we're in trouble.
Right?
Because we receive a projection, You're a loser.
You know, there's too much on your plate.
There's too much happening.
There's there's problems.
There's difficulties.
And we start to receive that.
And that becomes our fellowship.
Then we live we're we're walking in darkness.
对。
Mhmm.
Right?
But this is even more why we need the kind of life that we have where we fall on our face before the Lord and say, I need you today.
Right?
I need you for every moment.
That I wouldn't walk in the subtleties that the devil has, but I would walk in the objectivity of truth, which only can happen when we have light.
The light goes on in a room and out of that, the corners comes, you know, all measure of creatures.
没错。
Yes.
Yes.
And they scurry because the light has come into the room.
是的。
Yes.
So who knows what's in our hearts and our minds today that needs the presence of God just to illuminate and to say, don't walk in that direction that our own minds have confirmed is okay.
Because if our own minds aren't linked together with Christ's mind, we're gonna have some difficulties.
真美。
Beautiful.
That is great.
Last year or maybe even longer ago, read this message by Spurgeon and I think the title was Observations of Darkness.
So I remembered it this morning, I found the notes on it and there's just some beautiful things he says, but the point really before I even talk about what some of the stuff he said is that we often, I think we can think of darkness as this evil force, the devil.
But what you just said, is really true.
That's actually in my own head, the absence of light, the darkness is there.
And I think that's what Job said, you know, like God says to Job, who is it that has given you dark counsel, right?
Who is it?
Well, the temptation is to say, well, your three friends are giving you a dark counsel.
That's not untrue.
Or the devil is caused all this and he's in But actually who does most of the talking in Job, right?
It's Job, Job himself is the one that gives him dark counsel.
And that's really a good point.
I think a lot of darkness in our life comes from ourselves because we are not clinging to lights.
We have patterns of thinking, we have imaginations that are in the wrong way and imaginative thought life that is not the life of Christ.
It's not the light of Christ.
It's not how Jesus thinks.
So on our own, left on our own, what are we gonna get?
We're gonna have darkness in our life.
Much darkness in our life is just basically because we are following the wrong patterns of thinking.
Now there's a quote from that message from Spurgeon abbreviated here, but much darkness is merely home spun.
I like that, it's home spun, you're spinning your own darkness in your life.
That hits home a little too much for me because I think that's so true.
And then he says, made by the pattern of your own invention.
Like you just said it too, like we fall back into our fallen states, even though we have new realities and new ways of thinking in Christ's And we kind of cause, we cast the shade on our life, especially in trials, especially when we've been hurt, especially when there's pain or things don't go our way, or how about this, when we've been offended, we get offended easily, we get hurt easily, we magnify it, we harp on it.
Yesterday, last night I said in church, have you ever thought about how you thought about a subject ten years ago?
Like it's embarrassing, it's embarrassing.
I came across, I didn't say this in the message, but I came across an email I sent.
I don't know why I kept the email.
Came across the email I sent because I was just so angry and upset and deep behind it was that I was hurt.
It's like twelve years ago, maybe thirteen years ago.
And I'm reading it going, oh, you fool, you fool.
You know what I mean?
It's darkness.
It's darkness.
You've spun your own homegrown darkness in your life because you're not following God's way and your tongue can cause darkness in your life and your tendency to be, feel or want to feel like a victim.
You know what I mean?
This is what we do, you know?
Think about this.
How often are we upset because someone said something bad about us?
And how much time do we dedicate on that?
And how many hours do we lay awake and how much do we defend ourselves?
How much do we rehearse the speech that we're gonna say and defend ourselves or tell, talk to others about this.
This is home spun darkness.
There's a lot of that in our life and it's just old patterns of thinking, like you said, and what we need is a little bit of Jesus.
I mean, how much of our time do we spend with our own premises?
Right?
Like, we we determine to ourselves what our reality is, so to speak.
You know, we hear this phrase in the world today.
This you know, is that your truth?
And and we can operate in a lot of different ways.
Right?
We could operate in our own conscience leading us.
We could operate morality leading us.
You know, we think of I think of some really great people in a sense, whose motive is their greatness or maintaining a certain decorum.
But sometimes Jesus is walking into the temple turning over the tables because he's upset at what has happened to his father's house.
And, you know, there's there's no kindness in that, so to speak.
Although ultimately, it's the greatest kindness you could ever have when God comes in and disrupts our thoughts.
Right?
We think we're doing something healthy.
We're we're selling the sacrifice needed to be able to fulfill what God's desire is.
And God's saying, look at what you've done.
You've defiled my father's house.
Right?
So here we are in our own conscience sometime, living in a way that we think is okay because we've spun our own darkness.
But our premise at the very beginning is incorrect.
In other words, you just reminded me when you said how how how many times are we offended by something that somebody says to us.
Well, if our premise is that I'm a righteous person, then every time somebody says something is an opportunity for darkness.
Wow.
是的。
Yeah.
Right?
But if my premise is I can be wrong.
Mhmm.
Wow.
You know, if somebody feels a certain way, but and I'm not saying we we operate in know, introspective all the time.
But if we're introspective to in a healthy way, if we say, God, search me, like David said, just search me and know me and and acknowledge me in all my ways.
Make sure I'm okay.
Right?
And, I you know, you and I both have been in youth ministry for a long time, and I get letters.
I get emails.
And sometimes people are upset at me, believe it or not.
I I don't know how they could ever be upset with me.
I stopped writing those emails
a long time ago.
It seems to be a regular occasion, you know?
是的。
Yeah.
There is this concept that if you do things right, that everybody would be happy.
That's why they call them concepts.
But you know what?
Sometimes people have reasons for being upset.
And when they write to me, I I have an immediate response.
And I I have thank you, Jesus.
Somewhere on the line, I made this my practice that I type my response, and I put it in the outbox, and I don't send it.
Then I come back in and I read it the next day and I go, wow.
There's a whole lot of Barry Quirk and there are not a whole lot of Jesus Christ
in there.
是的。
Yeah.
And so I have the chance to kind of when emotions have dropped and we settle things that I can respond in truth.
And even then, there's opportunities for me to misrepresent or be misrepresent or whatever the case is.
But how much better is it when we say, Lord, just search me and know me and help me.
Right?
Help me walk in truth.
And the thing that's so awesome is it's not a moving goalpost.
Right?
My my own concepts are moving goalposts.
Twelve years ago, you felt a certain way.
Today, you don't feel that way.
没错。
Right.
My own understanding of situations can be a moving goalpost.
But the word of God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Right?
His standards are upheld.
When when the enemy's coming rushing in against me, I uphold the standard of truth because that's the same yesterday, today, and forever, and it's powerful.
And when we think about Genesis three and and the garden and we think about Eve, being there and the serpent saying, you know, didn't God say?
Like, he he gave partial facts and used a lot of manipulative, truths or non truths, like manipulative outcomes and deceived Eve and the fall of man happens.
Right?
And it's still Paul says it in second, or I recorded the verse a little bit earlier.
Second Corinthians eleven three.
He says it again.
I fear less by any means as the serpent beguiled Eve through the subtlety, so your mind should be corrupted from the simplicity that's in Christ.
In other words, Christ makes it very simple.
对。
Mhmm.
He says, I'm the way, the truth, and the life.
Right?
He says, I am the light of the world.
对。
Mhmm.
And if you follow me, I'll be the one revealing what's going on.
I'll I will be the beam of light that shines in in a dark place.
But if we operate in the subtlety of the the projection, you know, we receive that fiery dart.
We allow it to become part of our our thinking process.
Now our response is out of the hurt from that that thing that we received instead of the objectivity of truth.
是的。
Yeah.
And we have a completely different outcome.
真美。
Beautiful.
是的。
Yeah.
I like that part about the simplicity that is Christ.
Because you'd be tempted on this subject to be focusing on the darkness.
Right?
对。
Mhmm.
That would be okay.
So let's analyze darkness and figure it out and get to the bottom of it.
But actually, we ought to be simple concerning evil, which doesn't mean we don't know that there's evil or we ignore evil or we sweep it under the rug or we don't.
We pretend there is no evil.
We do that a lot.
I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine, everything's fine.
We do that a lot.
Have an image to uphold.
But it's not that it's actually that we see through evil to who?
Jesus, right?
The simplicity that is in Christ, right?
Be simple concerning evil and the simplicity that is in Christ.
Those verses have always gone together for me.
We don't ignore the darkness.
We don't pretend it's not there, but we also don't focus on it.
We focus through it and find Christ.
And when you catch a hold of Jesus and He being the light, I think we're getting somewhere, right?
没错。
Absolutely.
And I think the craziness of that story is that the serpent use as much as he tried to use truth in a manipulative way, he used critical omissions, things that he didn't say.
Right?
Things and how does that happen?
It happens a lot in our lives.
Like, start to believe something in a subtlety or in a lie.
对。
Mhmm.
And it starts to affect the way we think.
And we know, I mean, when we were little kids, we would hear right thinking produces right actions, which produces right results, which produces right emotions.
Right?
It starts with right thinking.
So what will you feed your mind?
Right?
And this is I remember an old Brian Williams song.
What will you feed your mind?
You know, will it be the world's way, a place where your soul strays?
Or will it be the word that makes you whole?
Right?
And and think about that that that the word of God can enter into a situation and shine light on something that at the very beginning has a bad premise.
对。
Mhmm.
Right?
Like, maybe we feel a certain way or we react a certain way, and now we're starting to defend it.
And we can even use morality or or we could use, even the word of God in a way that's not the intention of the of the the writer.
Right?
And but the word of god can come in and subtly expose our to us even, you know, where do we start?
What's our premise?

Where we what's the whole and when we think about Jesus Christ, he was continuously misunderstood and falsely accused and wronged and all of those things.
And this is who we're supposed to be walking after.
Right?
But, no, I gotta keep my reputation clean.
I gotta keep my ways up front.
You know?
It doesn't matter that I'm following the most misunderstood person on the face of the earth ever in history.
But, you know, the the beautiful thing about the light of of the word of god is that it comes in and it just exposes where our premise could be wrong.
It exposes where our first steps are wrong.
And then we don't have to spend, you know, all of our time, living in our own falsehoods or our own lies.
We're still gonna fall.
Every day we wake up, every day is a brand new day.
And I love the fact that our reliance upon Christ how much of this light do we need?
We need all of
it continuously
because every day when I wake up, I'm still a human being.
I have not yet become a person who's face to face with Christ.
对。
Mhmm.
And I'm still living in the process of understanding who God is and forgetting about who I am.
And sometimes that's not such an easy battle,
is it?
No, it's not.
It's I like the idea of a battle, not so much that it's us, but you know, this admission that there's darkness and then we need the light, you know.
I was reading Job this morning, because I remember that in Job, the word darkness or different connotations of darkness are all over Job in his words.
And I think in three, it mentions it like four times darkness, darkness, darkness.
He feels that he is in a very dark place.
And if you analyze his whole thoughts, I wrote some things down on it, but if you analyze what he is thinking, then I think then you realize that he is in darkness and he's primarily in darkness, not because of the hard, unbelievably hard things that have happened to him.
He is in darkness because he thinks that he has lost his connection with Jesus, right?
That's his big trial.
His big trial is like, Lord, where are you?
If you did this to me, then you must be against me.
You must not be in my favor.
You must be like punishing me.
You know what I mean?
He even says, like you seek to destroy me in six:nine.
Like he is under the impression that his trial is a direct result of God's displeasure with him.
And it causes this massive, massive dark cloud in his life.
And it's all in his mind because none of it's true.
Not one word of it is true.
God has got nothing to do with you, Job.
This whole trial has got nothing to do with you.
It's a supernatural thing happening.
And, but here he is living in this very dark, dark time, and he fails to see that God is in it.
He just doesn't wanna acknowledge the fact that his story is woven into providence, like that Job becomes part of the Bible, that Job becomes part of God's plan.
God's got something to teach us, got something to say, and he's gonna use Job.
And Job fails to see that God is here.
So you have a trial or things don't go your way, or there's some pain or there's some problems or there's relationship problems.
That seems to be our biggest problem.
And you refuse to see God in it.
You refuse to see that God is in it the whole time.
And how does God fix Job and his darkness?
In Job 38, he just says, I am God, I am God.
喂。
Hello.
I'm God, what do you know?
You know nothing, I am God.
Do you know who I am?
And then of course, what happens?
Job says, I used to be blind, but now my eyes can see.
He's out of the darkness.
He's out of the darkness.
I love this constant theme of Christ being the lights of the darkness, out of the darkness.
He's the one that is the flicker of the switch by his presence.
And he just clears us and our mind and our darkness and becomes lights.
And when we have these rhemas of, what need I in my life is rhemas of Jesus, right?
I need a rhema of Jesus because in the presence of a rhema, two things happen.
Number one, I'm aware of my dark heart.
I am aware of my depravity.
I become very, very small.
And then also I fall in love with Jesus and see Him as the light and as the very thing that can fix me.
So Job is a great example of that.
Yeah, and it's beautiful thoughts, beautiful thoughts.
And I think that it's very easy for us to get lost.
I mean, we look at, we analyze the book of Job.
He had friends that came and spoke to him, right?
是的。
Yeah.
And actually, even what they said was not incorrect in in many cases.
It was it was accurate.
Right?
But it wasn't the heart of God for the situation.
And it wasn't what God was allowing for the situation.
And how introspective or, you know, how how far Job could have been taken out of that picture
被
by
those those friends, the the words of the friends, the just being in the situation, you know, and his wife saying, you know, how long are you gonna retain your integrity, man?
Like, what's what's going on here?
And it all has to do with in the very premise of it, am I agreeing with God in my thinking?
Right?
Do I can I agree with God in my thinking?
Can I see God's point and God's purpose in in this situation?
Or is it gonna be something that, you know, is a is a monument to myself.
And I think that's where we get in a lot of trouble.
对。
Mhmm.
Is that we make every situation about us.
对。
Mhmm.
When the idea is that it's not about us.
We are we're used by God in many different ways.
是的。
Yeah.
Sometimes very positively.
Sometimes, you know, we become evidence in his court case of of how grace operates even when we don't deserve it.
You know, the situation doesn't call it deserve it, but that's how God decides to do it.
So it's a beautiful thing.
And I think that people out here listening to the program today, have probably seen the value of not thinking in their own thoughts or how we can get stuck in our own head and our own minds.
And also that the way out of that is by putting our face into what God has to say about us.
Right?
Instead of what we have to say about us.
Let's put our ourselves.
Someone else has to say about us.
对。
Yeah.
What someone else has to say about us.
Here's a thought for those out in the audience.
I'm sure as you've listened to the program here these last months and years that you have had different aspects of this program shine light in areas where maybe you had different thoughts or different opinions about yourself or just struggles.
And let us know about that.
Let us know how has the program helped you?
How have the topics changed the way you think about things?
I think this is a part of the example of what we're talking about here today is not only that we would understand how God's thoughts are towards us by Him shining a light on that, But also, how do we operate towards others with the light of God being our motive, or purely our motive?
What are we doing here on Earth?
We're passing the time of our sojourning in fear, just knowing that God is He's not a respecter of persons, but He's not willing that any should perish.
He wants all to enter into His life.
So let us know.
I'm sure that you can send in your communications to questionsgracehour dot org.
I think, Mr.
Producer, is that the best way?
Questionsgracehour dot org。
Questionsgracehour dot org.
And you can use that not only to give us a question, but to tell us how Grace Hour has helped you out, to tell us, about topics that you would like to hear further about, and to give us an idea of what's on your hearts and your mind as we go to God for those topics.
So, we did have a great service last night, which you you shared the main message in.
And this topic of Job was part of that topic.
Yeah, Job is usually in my mind, I studied it so much and I do love that story.
And it's so relevant to us today.
The other story that I read this morning was Hezekiah, two Kings 19, where Hezekiah receives that letter from Sennacherib, like he gets this extremely negative letter and you could just see him falling into darkness.
There's bad news and it's really, really bad.
And one of our favorite stories in the Old Testament often quoted, often received is that he gets on his knees and then he spreads the letter before the Lord, right?
So you have the negative news, you have the darkness, you have the attack, you have the horrible words, you have the threats.
Your life's about to be turned upside down.
We all know about that.
That's all happening in our lives at different times.
And then this idea of yet now, what are you gonna do?
What are you gonna do?
Are you gonna live in that darkness?
And of course you do, but this idea that the darkness, that the negative part can be given to Jesus.
Now that these are, I just said that so easily, right?
Oh yeah, just give it to Jesus.
We always say that, but it's painfully hard.
Yes, it is.
Painfully hard.
It is.
Maybe the hardest thing we do as Christians, but the answer, God's answer, answers him through Isaiah and it says, by the way he came, Sennacherib, by the way he came, the same shall he return.
And that's kind of like, I like that powerful statement.
Yes, problems, yes, issues, yes, we've got a mess going on here.
I'm giving it to Jesus.
And when I give it to Jesus, by the way that it came, it will return.
It's gonna be over, right?
We don't linger in it.
We do linger in it.
That doesn't go away.
The problems don't go away, but there's a foundational piece.
There's a foundational rest.
Not always, not perfectly, but there is this thing called peace and there is this thing called lights that can shine even in the worst days.
You know what I mean?
You can go through a trial and you have your moments in a horrible time and you're just finding God, you're just trying to find God.
You might even be up at night saying, Jesus help me.
I'm looking for the light.
Just settle me.
I heard pastor Shalar say recently that he was released on something.
He was released on a weekend hearing a message from another pastor and he was released.
And I just believe in that.
I believe that if we give it to God rather than harbor on it or nurse it, we like nurse our problems and nurse our trials and we just live in it.
You can meet someone that will talk about something that happens ten or twenty or thirty years ago and the pain is still there, but we have to learn how to give it to God.
And when we do, I think a light comes into our life and maybe just a little light in the beginning, but then over time that light grows and it's a pathway, and it's beautiful.
I think one of the amazing things about believers growing in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ is it becomes more and more clear who he is in the picture, and we are less and less concerned with who we are in the picture.
是的
Yeah.
And this is part of our maturation process with God is learning to look in look unto him, the author and the finisher of our faith.
Right?
And not be so occupied with ourselves.
And, you know, we are we live with ourselves.
You know, we're always amazed when people say something kind about us because we know that behind the scenes, it's us they're talking about.
Right?
You know, we we say, oh, Lord.
It's a it's a grace.
You know, it's it's a miracle of God.
I wake up in the morning and you're pastors of mercy.
But the more I realize that, the more I'm available for god to do something with my life because I realize it's not about me.
对。
Mhmm.
Right from the get go.
Wow.
That's so good.
是的
Yeah.
And this is like, you know, we we think about, Romans thirteen twelve says, that we because the day of, our ultimate salvation, the day that we're gonna finally come home to be with the Lord, it it draws closer and closer that also we're learning how, as the day goes darker and darker around us, that we need to put on the armor of the light of God Mhmm.
More and more.
是的
Yeah.
And, to be fortified, to be built up, we it's funny.
The older we get and the longer we've been in the word and the more we've been surrounded with fellowship around His word, the more we realize we don't have anything that we remotely we haven't achieved remotely close to what we need for our lives.
And it's kind of opposite.
It's counterintuitive.
I was trying to keep that on the down low.
We're on the internet here.
Guess what?
People know.
Oh, shucks.
Yeah.
So, you know, the more we realize, you know, I need him every day.
对。
Yeah.
I need him every hour.
We're not we're not relying on something, you know, like we went to, school to become a specialist in some area and now, the rest of our lives, we can just live in that knowledge.
And we went to school, and it showed us at the end of it how much we didn't know yet.
Right?
I always say, you know, when we became when we graduated from bible school, we knew how to find the places in the bible that we needed to be built up in.
And then as we teach the bible, as teachers in the Bible, we're realizing, wow, I don't know this.
Like, I would love to know this even more and get to know the the four truths in it.
And we become pastors, and we're sharing the word, and we say, I know nothing as I ought to.
But I think there's health in that.
是的。
Yeah.
Right?
When we start to to believe we know something and we start to get familiar with it, it breeds contempt.
Mhmm.
You know?
We start to think, I don't need the I don't need the refreshing every day of the the Holy Spirit.
I don't need to have my not my mind being renewed.
But actually, it's the farthest thing from the truth.
We need that more and more, as the days go go closer.
That's why we forsake not the assembling.
Amen.
You got our mercy.
You need it for lights in my life.
是的。
Yeah.
What you just said, by the way, it kind of hit me a little bit because I always say, don't make the trial about the person.
You know what I mean?
There's some maybe some somebody is against you or whatever.
Don't you know, what you you went through a divorce or you have a friend or whatever, you know how it is.
And I would say, don't take the person out of the picture, which is good advice, but actually you say it better because the person is attacking you and that's the core issue.
You are making it about you.
You're making it about you.
Take yourself out of it.
And then also that is a wider net, so to speak, to catch the darkness.
Like that covers any scenario, any situation.
You take yourself out of it.
You look to God.
I like that.
I might just be a convenient target.
God might be doing something in somebody's life, and it's touching a nerve.
对。
Mhmm.
And I represented that nerve that he was touching, and I might be the person they lash out at.
是的
Yeah.
对
Yeah.
You know, I believe that's happened.
是的
Mhmm.
I believe that's happened.
I believe it's in my own life Mhmm.
That I I'm reacting to something that God is like piercing my heart about, and I end up doing that in a manner that makes someone else's my convenient target, someone else my convenient target of, my angst.
是的
And Mhmm.
You know, that's not the that's not truth.
And how about we think the best in every situation?
It was John seven twenty five says that we we judge righteous judgment.
Right?
It's the one time in the Bible where judging is kinda okay.
Judge righteous judgment.
Right?
Man looks at the outward appearance.
God looks at the heart.
When we see somebody lashing out at us or someone else, can we look at them with the eyes of redemption and say, you know, they are hurting.
对。
Mhmm.
And what do they need that will help them understand their their the solution to their pain is in Christ, giving it to them.
Right?
Giving it to God.
Cast your cares upon him because he cast your cares because he cares for us.
And as you said, it's a very difficult thing to do.
Right?
It's a difficult thing for us to just offload our problems onto God.
We wanna fix them.
That's our nature as men.
We wanna fix.
是的。
Mhmm.
But God's not so interested in our fix.
He's interested in, are you willing to hear what I have to say to you?
对。
Mhmm.
Sometimes that fixes makes us a little bit vulnerable.
对。
Mhmm.
But as we turn to him, we see that his the results are are permanent and they're not, about me reestablishing my kingdom, but about me understanding who it is that God's made us to be in his kingdom.
对。
Mhmm.
真美。
Beautiful.
Did you see, there's someone that talks about fellowshipping with the Lord making a comment.
And I did have that verse in mind this morning when I was thinking about the subject.
Christ is light in our life.
So is Christ light, yes, Christ is light.
John one, Christ is light, right?
Like His word, there's three words, there's logos, the word, and then there is life and then there is lights and they are simultaneously, they're the same thing, they're interchanged in chapter.
And he is the word, he is the word is a light onto my path like this, that's all Jesus.
But that is not an abstract, like far away concept.
Like we talk often like this, Jesus is the answer kind of, and that is so much true, but I love in one John one, in him was life and in that life was the light of men.
In Him is life, in Him is life, right?
And Jesus Christ is when we have fellowship with Him.
So that's one John one:six-seven.
If we say we have fellowship in Him yet we walk in darkness, we lie and we do not practice the truth.
Like, it's not like you can just say, okay, Jesus, yep, I got my eye on you.
I got the idea of Jesus in my head and the concept of Jesus is this and yep, He'll take care of all my problems.
No, Christ is saying, want a fellowship with you.
You got to get to know me.
You got to understand who I am.
You got to know how I think.
You got to know what I say, you gotta know how I act.
You gotta get intimate with me.
You gotta know how I suffered.
That's my favorite way.
I never feel closer to Jesus than when I study his suffering, especially if I'm going through a bad time.
That's a great fix to get out of your darkness.
But like Christ is not saying, it's not like some relic.
It's not like some relic that you can put on the wall and say, Oh, there Jesus, are my eyes on Jesus?
No, no, no.
We got to fellowship with Jesus.
To fellowship with His word.
We got to get to know who He is.
In the service, I said, we talk about obedience all the time, that there is no obedience unless you know who He is.
You got to know what He's like and how He thinks and what He wants us to obey and be like.
You got to have that clear in your head.
Otherwise any obedience is like empty.
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to obey what you have to say, but I don't know what you have to say.
Like I'm a teacher in the school, you're the principal and I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I follow the rules, but I don't know the rules.
I don't know how you operate.
I don't know what your culture's like.
I don't know what say.
No, I gotta have fellowship.
The light, I think in one John, there is a correlation between fellowship and light, and there's a correlation between darkness and not having fellowship, right?
Like, man, you're lost.
So Jesus, it's who are you?
Who are you?
Where are you today?
Talk to me, Lords.
I'm seeking you, Lords.
Open your Bible.
You're kind of hoping that he pops out, right?
You go to church and you need it.
Why do you go to church?
Because you need it.
You need Jesus to reveal himself.
You're fellowshipping with Jesus.
And then when he suffers, you wanna fellowship in his suffering.
When I suffer, I identify with his suffering and it's light.
Light is being brought into me through a relationship, right?
Wow, there's a lot.
That's a rich topic.
There's a message in there.
Right?
The logos and the the reflection of God in the beginning when was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.
And here's God looking at his son, but he's seeing the reflection of himself.
对。
Mhmm.
是的。
Yeah.
This is where it all starts.
对。
Yes.
It all starts that the character of God is revealed in the light of God.
对。
Yes.
Right?
Jesus Christ.
对。
Yes.
And then we we have rhema, which is like the expression of truth to us that it's a living expression of that truth.
对。
Mhmm.
And I think sometimes we wanna live in the experience or the excitement of a rhema.
Like, give me a rhema.
Give me a fresh thought, but we don't wanna spend the time to get to know the character of God.
对。
Right.
And the character of God, you know, and I know that, you know, in a theological sense, we're not separating them out.
But I'm just saying that, like, we wanna live in this experiential, liberty that comes from from God, but we don't wanna spend the time of getting to know who God is.
And I think that really as as believers, when we are changed in our inward man by who God is and we start to see ourselves after who he is.
Right?
We know who he is, so therefore we know how he thinks about us.
That's when the process starts to change about how we think about others.
So this is a beautiful topic, and I think we've only scratched the surface on it.
It's a great one for people to do study.
And there was lot of great thoughts here, Steven, Elizabeth, Loretta, Vladimir from Ukraine is watching us.
What a what an awesome thing.
My old roommate from Hungary for a couple nights.
Boy, it is great to have the ability to have God shine a light on our lives and to be able to have things corrected, addressed.
We can agree with God quickly.
We can apply things by faith.
We don't we don't know how it all works, but we know that we can agree with him because he says it works and that he'll reveal to us in our our daily lives the truth of what he's saying.
So great being with you today, Pastor Pete.
Thank you for our great, engineer over here.
It's time to get him on the air here.
I agree.
I agree.
Enough of this.
He's always hiding in the corner over here.
I know.
