Speaker 0

I think I got that right.

Speaker 0

Right, Michelle?

Speaker 0

My name is Jasmin Field, and I'm here with my beautiful cohost, miss Michelle Benoit in the studio today.

Speaker 0

We are always so excited to be here and just share what God has put on our hearts, and we always pray that you leave feeling stronger, more equipped in your faith, and understanding how God does apply to your current situation.

Speaker 0

But before we dive into today's topic, focusing on one of the parables

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Michelle has some announcements today.

Speaker 1

September is gonna be busy.

Speaker 1

There's the women's seminar.

Speaker 1

And for the first time ever, you get a free book Oh.

Speaker 1

With your registration.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

It's a book of beautiful devotionals written by Abby Abraham.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

And you don't need to bring a notebook because it has all kinds of note pages in the back.

Speaker 1

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 1

Some lined and some plain.

Speaker 1

Our drawers and artists Yes.

Speaker 1

Asked me for plain.

Speaker 1

And we're gonna talk about abide.

Speaker 1

But we're not yelling at you to abide.

Speaker 1

We're gonna show you how to get in that vine.

Speaker 1

Beautiful.

Speaker 1

There are steps.

Speaker 1

So you come to the seminar, September eighteenth and nineteenth.

Speaker 1

You're gonna have so much fun.

Speaker 1

This is gonna be a great seminar.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

But that same week on Tuesday, September 10 at 09:45 a.

Speaker 1

M, our connection starts.

Speaker 1

Oh, wonderful.

Speaker 1

Our Tuesday morning connection.

Speaker 1

We already have people signed up since

Speaker 0

Well, of course, it's amazing.

Speaker 1

The missionary tea, and we're doing Ruth and Esther.

Speaker 1

Oh, beautiful.

Speaker 1

So let's see how much trouble those girls can get into.

Speaker 1

Probably you've never heard either of their stories.

Speaker 1

So it may be a complete surprise for someone.

Speaker 1

但是

But

Speaker 0

You know, if you're a troublemaker for the Lord, I think it's permissible.

Speaker 0

I I I don't know if you can really change lives and be changed unless you're real willing to take some risks.

Speaker 0

So I love that.

Speaker 0

And I love that we have a place where women can gather, receive teaching, have fellowship, in a big way at the women's seminar Yeah.

Speaker 0

And then regularly at the women's connect as

Speaker 1

也有。

well.

Speaker 1

Monday night connect and they're doing, Genesis, but I don't know when they start.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

So we've gotta find out that information for you.

Speaker 1

We'll have it next month.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

So we're talking about parables this week.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And so I wanna start by talking about the albatross.

Speaker 1

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 1

对。

Yep.

Speaker 1

I know.

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

I know.

Speaker 1

It it has the largest wingspan of any bird on the planet.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

They can reach 11 feet.

Speaker 1

That's two of me in a foot.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

They glide over the ocean for years.

Speaker 1

数年。

Years.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yep.

Speaker 1

Without stopping.

Speaker 1

They can fly 10,000 miles without stopping.

Speaker 1

That's to England and back.

Speaker 0

Oh my god.

Speaker 1

And they can circumnavigate the earth in forty six days.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

It's incredible.

Speaker 0

That that part is incredible.

Speaker 1

They drink seawater, which I did not know.

Speaker 1

And they've got a special filter God made in their nose to poof out the salt.

Speaker 1

Oh my god.

Speaker 1

I'm like, really?

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 1

And baby albatrosses spend their first six years on the ocean.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

They only come back when they're ready to have their own eggs.

Speaker 1

But they remind me of Pastor Schaller.

Speaker 1

They just keep going and going and going, you know.

Speaker 1

We he's been our pastor for twenty one years.

Speaker 1

We've mushroomed from 200 churches to 900.

Speaker 1

So incredible.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

And then I am more like a petrel.

Speaker 1

It's the smallest of all seabirds and they deliberately chase hurricanes.

Speaker 1

If there's a hurricane, they're in.

Speaker 1

I love it.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

They don't Very accurate.

Speaker 1

Very accurate.

Speaker 1

They don't go for the center where it's peaceful.

Speaker 1

They go for the turbulence, the turmoil.

Speaker 1

Because the storm stir up the ocean and up comes squid, and that's their favorite food.

Speaker 1

So they remind me of pastor Schibeli.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

No problem is too big for him.

Speaker 1

He's right in there.

Speaker 1

Difficult situations for the sake of the gospel.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

好的。

Alright.

Speaker 1

Now I just told you two things Mhmm.

Speaker 1

About two animals that relate to pastoring styles.

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

So that's kind of what Jesus was doing.

Speaker 1

You know, using things that like our everyday.

Speaker 1

A lost coin.

Speaker 1

Oh, women are gonna pay attention to that.

Speaker 1

A lost sheep.

Speaker 1

Oh, men are gonna pay attention to that.

Speaker 1

A lost son.

Speaker 1

Oh, now the parents are listening on the edge of their seats.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

He talks about weddings and funerals and rich men and poor men and tax collectors explaining the kingdom of God.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

And there's several parables that speak of separation.

Speaker 1

Alright?

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

The wheat and the tares.

Speaker 1

Oh, those guys weren't supposed to be together.

Speaker 1

They gotta be separated.

Speaker 1

The sheep and the goats.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Gotta be separated.

Speaker 1

And now we're gonna talk about the 10 bridesmaids.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

10 virgins.

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 1

But if I say bridesmaids, I think everybody can relate a little better.

Speaker 1

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

And it's actually a reference to the fact that during that portion of Jewish custom that's highlighted, it was about the average side of size of a wedding party.

Speaker 0

So the 10 bridesmaids are accurate.

Speaker 0

Maybe for some today, that would be a little much.

Speaker 0

But, you know, as we're going into, the history of what the the customs were at this time, it's very amazing how much symbolism is seen within this story about the readiness of the virgins and, having the proper oil supply, even the way that they preserved what they had when they were asked to share.

Speaker 0

And, I love all of the messages that we can learn from these 10 ladies.

Speaker 0

And I do wanna say upfront, they all fell asleep.

Speaker 0

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

So before we get into, oh, well, you know, you have to do this and you have to be this way all the time.

Speaker 0

It's impossible.

Speaker 0

And part of your Christian walk is when you have the weak areas, when you are not on the lookout, and you do receive unexpected and the need for rest.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

So, I just want to put that out there because I know that that can definitely take a turn and it can be these were the five unprepared.

Speaker 0

I would never be like that.

Speaker 0

And these are the five prepared.

Speaker 0

That's always me.

Speaker 0

We're not always anything.

Speaker 0

And that's another aspect of this that we can learn from.

Speaker 1

You know, they don't get rebuked for falling asleep.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And even Jesus fell asleep

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

In a boat in the middle of a storm.

Speaker 1

Come on now, Lord.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Hey, we need you and you're snoozing away.

Speaker 1

But they don't get rebuked for that.

Speaker 1

It's never even brought up.

Speaker 1

And we have steps nowadays to our wedding.

Speaker 1

The proposal, you know, the engagement ring.

Speaker 1

We go by the dress, you know.

Speaker 1

So they had steps too.

Speaker 1

First was a formal agreement by the dads.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

It's like, oh, okay.

Speaker 1

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 1

Then a betrothal ceremony Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Which was a little family party.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yep.

Speaker 0

The mutual promises were made.

Speaker 1

And then the wedding, which could be a year later.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

当然。

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And that's one of the reasons why the bridegroom came at an unexpected time because you knew there was a planned delay.

Speaker 0

And then right around that time, what was your job?

Speaker 0

To be prepared to keep watch and to know that this is coming.

Speaker 0

And I love that illusion, Michelle, of us really understanding, you know, when God tells us something, even if it's something that we don't like, even if it's something that makes us a little bit uncomfortable, he tells us because he wants us to be able to know, hey, you're gonna need to press into me here.

Speaker 0

Hey, there's not always something that you're gonna be able to follow.

Speaker 0

That's your timing.

Speaker 0

I need you to focus on me and my timing.

Speaker 0

I need you to trust my timetable.

Speaker 1

That is so good.

Speaker 1

Now, Jesus alludes to himself as the bridegroom in Matthew nine fifteen.

Speaker 1

So, I mean, there was gossip back then.

Speaker 1

Come on now.

Speaker 1

We gossip like mad now.

Speaker 1

So it was in, if not in the forefront of people's minds, you know, in the back.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

So these 10 girls represent the kingdom of heaven.

Speaker 1

They take their lamps.

Speaker 1

They go they're excited.

Speaker 1

This could be the night.

Speaker 1

They're gonna meet the bridegroom.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Five are wise and five are foolish.

Speaker 1

And the foolish ones only brought their lamps.

Speaker 1

明白。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You're like, girls?

Speaker 1

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 1

It's like we we we didn't bring extra batteries.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Or we didn't charge our phone.

Speaker 0

明白。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, this happens to all of us.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And the midnight call rings out.

Speaker 1

And I imagine these girls have been waiting night after night after night.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know, like, you've been pregnant.

Speaker 1

You're you're like, okay.

Speaker 1

My due date is coming.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Is it today the day?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

And it's in the back of your mind.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

But the foolish virgins and the wise virgins, The foolish ones want what the wise ones have.

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

But there's no way that they can give it.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Because we're really not talking about oil here.

Speaker 1

We're talking about spiritual readiness.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

I can't give someone my deposit, what this Holy Spirit has deposited in me.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

I can share a verse.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

We can go out to lunch.

Speaker 1

We can pray on the phone.

Speaker 1

But I can't download into you all that the Lord has taught me.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Because I'm not even aware of what's what's going on sometimes.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

Know, there's an article called Seven Pearls of Wisdom, from the parable of the 10 Virgins by a Christian author.

Speaker 0

Her name is Audrey McCracken.

Speaker 0

And she says in reference to the women who did not share the oil, we can think about this as women that are leaders, as women that are teachers, mothers.

Speaker 0

She said, know your limit of what you can offer.

Speaker 0

You must keep drawing from God if you want to offer anyone else his love, his perspective, or his attitude.

Speaker 0

Like the wise women of the parable, you must send people to the same place where you got your oil, not give them yours.

Speaker 0

That's beautiful.

Speaker 1

I love that.

Speaker 1

You know, the foolish virgins appeared to be ready.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

They're there.

Speaker 1

They've been waiting.

Speaker 1

They've been invited.

Speaker 1

They had lamps.

Speaker 1

Everyone could see they had lamps, but they had no oil.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And so I think about this.

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

You're getting married.

Speaker 1

Let's say it's this Saturday.

Speaker 1

It's five minutes before the wedding.

Speaker 1

Half of your bridesmaids are late.

Speaker 1

The other half, five are there.

Speaker 1

They're in their dresses.

Speaker 1

They got their shoes.

Speaker 1

They've got their little bouquets.

Speaker 1

And the other five come running in.

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

They're in jeans and t shirts.

Speaker 1

They didn't bring their dresses.

Speaker 1

What do you do?

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Do you include them in the wedding?

Speaker 1

How are those pictures gonna look?

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And of course, we're gonna stop here and say this is a story.

Speaker 1

明白。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, no one was hurt in the filming of this story.

Speaker 1

You know, we're not talking about real girls here.

Speaker 1

明白。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And Jesus is very careful not to give any names.

Speaker 1

We know this is just a parable.

Speaker 1

And so we can get a little crazy about what happens in the end of this story Yes.

Speaker 1

And a little nervous.

Speaker 1

But we have to remember, we don't worry about Peter Pan or Peter Rabbit or Peter and the Wolf, what they're doing today.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Because they're stories.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

So this is a story.

Speaker 1

But that oil in the lamp represents the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

I love it.

Speaker 0

And I love what you said, earlier, Michelle, just about spiritual readiness.

Speaker 0

Because I do think that one of the reasons why having an ample supply of oil and having regular fellowship with God and daily inviting Him into your life through the reading of His word and prayer and fostering intimacy is we can always believe the lie that we've done enough.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 0

We can believe that we have enough oil.

Speaker 0

I did this, this, and this.

Speaker 0

And I've even heard people say, even older ones in the church when I've tried to speak with them about a topic or even ask them about something regarding the message that we both just heard and asking about going deeper or, what they've received from it.

Speaker 0

Sometimes there's been a sense of, you know, I've heard it all.

Speaker 0

I've seen it all.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 0

I've been around it all.

Speaker 0

I've grown up around it all.

Speaker 0

And it's just a very familiar attitude.

Speaker 0

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 0

So, there can be this arrogance that we grow and we have to be very careful about this.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

There is no such thing as receiving enough from eternal God that always has more and more to share because your lens is so limited.

Speaker 0

He can only give you dose by dose because of the capacity that you have.

Speaker 0

But isn't that a great treasure that every day He does have something for us if we pursue it?

Speaker 0

And God forbid, we're so familiar or so proud that we miss this gift right in front of us.

Speaker 1

That's a beautiful point.

Speaker 1

Thank you for that.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna take the opposite track that we never really run out.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You you don't go out to lunch with somebody and they have a question and you say, oh, I I can't be spiritual today because I didn't read my Bible this morning.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Know, what's deposited in you?

Speaker 1

好。

Okay.

Speaker 1

That if we talk about real olive oil, they squish the olive.

Speaker 1

It's thrown away or made into mufalletta.

Speaker 1

I don't know what they do with the empty olives.

Speaker 1

But all you have is that little drop, you know?

Speaker 1

But ours is living and it's energized by the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 1

In him, you live and move and have your being.

Speaker 1

So we don't run out ever.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 0

And I I love that because, yes, we can have I remember pastor Carl Stevens, our ministry founder saying in one of his devotionals, there should always be room for fresh spontaneity of the word.

Speaker 0

不错。

Nice.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And that's so true.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

God can energize me today and give me something directly applicable.

Speaker 0

But you're right.

Speaker 0

I I should not say after regular times in the word, maybe after Bible college, after my own personal devotionals, I can recall something from God's mind because it's planted in my heart.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

So, I may not have the exact solution for today's issue that you're bringing up at this lunch, but I can share something for you to meditate on.

Speaker 0

I can bring you back to maybe a verse we've both heard before and help you understand that this could really be applied to this situation.

Speaker 0

So I love that because God is very specific and very personal and He could.

Speaker 0

He has, I'm sure for you as well, put a specific verse on your heart for a person.

Speaker 0

You said, I don't know what's going on with you today or what's going on in your life, but I'm just being obedient and I'm sending you this text or making this phone call.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

But we do have something in our reservoir because God's Word runs so deep.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And He is alive.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And the Word is alive.

Speaker 0

And so if we sit and we really meditate and ask God, bring something back to fruition, Lord.

Speaker 0

He's faithful to do that.

Speaker 0

And that word can become so fresh for us in that moment.

Speaker 1

He's incredible.

Speaker 1

Oil lubricates and reduces friction.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, I I am home with my husband now because he's retired.

Speaker 1

We're having so much fun.

Speaker 1

We are giddy.

Speaker 1

And people will ask me, well, how's it going?

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And they're like, is this a sore subject?

Speaker 1

Well, we're having so much fun.

Speaker 1

But I notice if if I get crazy some mornings and it happens, I don't sit down and read my bible that one morning.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 0

就是

It

Speaker 1

doesn't happen often.

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

But I will snap.

Speaker 1

I mean, not completely lose my mind, but find myself, oh, wait a minute.

Speaker 1

That was a bit harsh.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Or you slammed the coffee cup.

Speaker 1

Oh, my.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 1

But I don't know.

Speaker 1

Just being alone with God in the morning

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

You feel like friction just completely gets coated.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

I love that.

Speaker 1

There's a medicine.

Speaker 1

There's a healing.

Speaker 1

My husband and I listened to Eurocon.

Speaker 1

If if Eurocon's not in your mind, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1

I know it was in March.

Speaker 1

It's way in the past.

Speaker 1

But we listened to it twice already.

Speaker 1

And I'm still thinking and turning some of it over.

Speaker 1

That's where the Holy Spirit comes in and turns over these familiar verses in our mind, you know.

Speaker 1

And I received a healing.

Speaker 1

I wasn't even at Eurocon in attendance.

Speaker 1

Received a healing there.

Speaker 1

I don't think I'll ever forget that, you know?

Speaker 1

So that oil, that Holy Spirit's beautiful deposit, you know, keeps me.

Speaker 0

I love it.

Speaker 1

And the oil is a lamp.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Light is sown for the righteous.

Speaker 1

It just helps us to keep going.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

You know, I think sometimes we we just limit our perspective so much to what we can see.

Speaker 0

And I remember, I think I had mentioned this to you, Michelle, when we were preparing for today's show.

Speaker 0

I said I read a book years ago by a pastor.

Speaker 0

His name is Erwin McManus.

Speaker 0

And he asked the question, would you be content to go to heaven if you knew that Jesus wasn't going to be there?

Speaker 1

Oh my.

Speaker 1

And I thought,

Speaker 0

what kind of question is this?

Speaker 0

But his whole point is that a lot of us, we can create what we want things to be.

Speaker 0

对。

Okay.

Speaker 0

It sounds pretty.

Speaker 0

It sounds comforting.

Speaker 0

It sounds like our version of what we want.

Speaker 0

And so, you know what?

Speaker 0

I'm going to redefine this.

Speaker 0

I'm going to redefine Heaven.

Speaker 0

I'm going to redefine what I can expect.

Speaker 0

I'm going to redefine what's coming next because this is what I prefer.

Speaker 0

But when we turn away from these foundational truths about what Jesus has said and how He wants us to prepare and what He has told us is coming, we are actually in a really huge danger zone because He doesn't say, Listen to me until you become uncomfortable and then you can finish the story.

Speaker 0

You can rewrite my word.

Speaker 0

You can change the ending.

Speaker 0

You know, and we have to remember that because I think that as Jesus continues in this parable, there is a huge parallel between the Psalms when He mentions numbering our days.

Speaker 0

And we go back to David.

Speaker 1

Psalm 90 verse 12.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

He really wants us to remember that everything about our time here on the earth is intentional.

Speaker 0

So as we're talking about spiritual readiness, you know, we can think, are we ready to face God today?

Speaker 0

Would we say we had reached our full potential or we were at least in pursuit of that?

Speaker 0

We were in pursuit of the great work he was doing in us if we were to encounter him today.

Speaker 1

Beautiful.

Speaker 1

You know, it's important that we distinguish two different things.

Speaker 1

We're talking about the kingdom of heaven.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

This is before the cross.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And the kingdom of heaven is not the same thing as the church.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Alright?

Speaker 1

The church and it's not greater grace.

Speaker 1

It's the worldwide universal someone in a rice paddy in Thailand, a thousand people in California

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

On a beach this morning at a baptism.

Speaker 1

It's, two missionaries praying in France.

Speaker 1

It's whoever and however many people have accepted Jesus as their savior Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Which is just beautiful.

Speaker 1

This is the kingdom of heaven.

Speaker 1

It's the larger sphere of Christendom.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

It includes not only, true believers, but also false believers.

Speaker 1

Again, back to the sheep and the goat, tares and the wheat.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

There are carnal Yes.

Speaker 1

Christians mixed in.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

They're saved like King Saul.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Wonderful guy saved.

Speaker 1

And then, woah, he goes down at a lane that you shouldn't be going down.

Speaker 0

但是

But

Speaker 1

the church started on Pentecost and will end at the rapture.

Speaker 1

But the kingdom of heaven goes on and on to the second advent of Christ when he returns in power and glory.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And that's where there's gonna be some separating.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

It includes the tribulation period.

Speaker 1

So we're talking about 10 girls that don't exist in a bigger time period than what we think.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

So we we want to open this up a little bit.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And if we look at Matthew 25, there's three stories in there.

Speaker 1

The 10 virgins.

Speaker 1

Number one is first, be ready.

Speaker 1

You don't know when Jesus will return.

Speaker 0

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

The parable of the talents.

Speaker 1

Don't hide your talent in the ground, girls.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And then the sheep and the goats, the separating.

Speaker 1

But the sheep are praised for feeding the hungry.

Speaker 1

Alright?

Speaker 1

Visiting strangers, the sick, those in prison.

Speaker 1

So all these are squished together in one thing.

Speaker 1

So we don't wanna examine the 10 virgins without that background.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And we come to the end where the door was shut.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

And he says, assuredly, I say to you, I don't you.

Speaker 1

And that is hard for us.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

I remember getting a cold call when I was a teenager before I was saved, and the person on the phone wanted to talk about the Lord.

Speaker 1

And I was like, oh, no.

Speaker 1

I'm sure Jesus will give everyone a second chance after they die.

Speaker 1

I know.

Speaker 1

I know.

Speaker 1

Wonderful doctrine.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 0

Well, again, that's what you preferred for that reality to be.

Speaker 0

对。

Yep.

Speaker 0

So you had convinced yourself that it's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 1

I think I even hung up on the poor person.

Speaker 1

Like, no, I've got this all figured out.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

I was young and foolish.

Speaker 1

I will have a quote here from Spurgeon who says, when that door is shut, it will never be opened again.

Speaker 1

There are some who dote and dream about the opening of that door after death for those who have died unsaved.

Speaker 1

But there's nothing in the scriptures to warrant any such expectation, any larger hope, and he's got that in quotation marks, then that revealed in the word of God is a delusion and a snare.

Speaker 1

Now that ain't me.

Speaker 1

That's Spurgeon.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

So we have to understand the seriousness of this.

Speaker 1

Three times Jesus said, assuredly, I don't know you in three different situations.

Speaker 1

He's not rejecting people.

Speaker 1

He's just stating a fact.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

And, you know, I remember reading a commentary about that and just reading about how in the traditional sense, it would not be something that was typical for the bridegroom to say after the virgins were late, Oh, you can't come in here at all.

Speaker 0

It would be quite the contrary.

Speaker 0

It would be, Oh my goodness, we were waiting for you.

Speaker 0

We were worried.

Speaker 0

Where were you?

Speaker 0

Come now and join us.

Speaker 0

And that's one of the reasons why that sharp response in the story is so memorable.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

Because if that's not the response and of course everything about this was orchestrated so that we could have this time of celebration together, we could be together and you were welcomed in, but now not only are you kept out, it's as though you are a stranger.

Speaker 0

Like that's a very, very deliberate thought for us to meditate on because in relation to readiness, we naturally want to say, Oh, but that's not fair.

Speaker 0

But what did you do with your time?

Speaker 0

What were you doing during the time that you could have been prepared?

Speaker 0

Were you distracted?

Speaker 0

What else got your attention?

Speaker 0

And there's so much competing for our attention daily, Michelle.

Speaker 0

So much is saying there is an easier way to live rather than all this sacrifice and all this cost for Christ.

Speaker 0

Just focus on what you can be in the world and let that be how you're glorified, you know?

Speaker 0

And it's amazing because that temptation and that battle that we face is every single day.

Speaker 0

And I remember hearing someone say once in their prayer, Lord, win me again.

Speaker 0

好。

Nice.

Speaker 0

And we need that.

Speaker 0

We need God actively pursuing us and we need to believe that we are worth that to Him.

Speaker 0

And so for every small or large decision that we make that includes Him or excludes him, it is pointing us in a direction.

Speaker 1

You know, a lot of us did not have Christian parents.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And, we came to Christ.

Speaker 1

It was amazing.

Speaker 1

But our children have Christian parents, and they've been hearing about this for a long time.

Speaker 1

And for some, it's an inoculation.

Speaker 1

是的。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, their grandma they know their grandma prays.

Speaker 1

They know their mom prays.

Speaker 1

And they say, oh, I'm gonna get saved.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna do this, but just not right now.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Let me have some fun.

Speaker 1

Let me sow some wild oats.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

But Matthew seven says, not everyone who says, Lord, Lord, acknowledging who Jesus really is, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven.

Speaker 1

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name.

Speaker 1

We cast out demons in your name.

Speaker 1

We have done wonders.

Speaker 1

And I will declare to them, I never knew you.

Speaker 1

Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.

Speaker 1

If you are close to getting saved, but still are putting it off, and you say, oh, I'll do it later.

Speaker 1

There may not be a later.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

We just want to make sure that, now is the time of salvation.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

And there's no vicarious saving.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

Just because my grandma was Christian and my mom and dad are Christian, even if my siblings are Christian, God is going to be asking you, Did I know you?

Speaker 0

Did we have our own relationship?

Speaker 0

What did I say to you?

Speaker 0

Did you know what my plan was for you?

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

And this is something that we have to really reiterate, especially to our children, because as you said, if this is a way that they're growing up, we can begin making assumptions.

Speaker 0

And then we'll have conversations with them or see some of their decisions and we'll say, Oh, wow.

Speaker 0

So, you have been listening, but God has not become your God yet.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

And that is a personal crossover that many parents have shared with me, and I'm sure my parents went through the same thing, kind of watching me figure a lot of things out.

Speaker 0

It has to be an individual and personal decision between you and God, because that's who it all comes down to, you and God and how you all knew each other and how you all related to each other while you were on the earth.

Speaker 1

I know pastor Schaller talked about Absalom, David's son Yes.

Speaker 1

Who tried to take the kingdom, and how David wept when he heard of that young man's death.

Speaker 1

And pastor Schaller said, well, it's easy.

Speaker 1

He wasn't saved.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And you're just like, no.

Speaker 1

不对。

No.

Speaker 1

不对。

No.

Speaker 1

不对。

No.

Speaker 1

不对。

No.

Speaker 1

He was a son of David.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Grew up in the kingdom.

Speaker 1

His dad is writing psalms.

Speaker 1

People are still singing them today.

Speaker 1

Imagine the impact they had then.

Speaker 1

And you can look very genuine.

Speaker 1

You can blend into the crowd.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, you can do what you want behind closed doors or where, you know, people or parents don't see.

Speaker 1

It looked real, but they were professors of Christianity, not possessors of salvation.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And to those of you that are hanging on the fringe because these people are nice and you value your connection with them Yes.

Speaker 1

Stop it.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Get your own relationship with the Lord.

Speaker 1

You know, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

It's so simple.

Speaker 1

It's so easy.

Speaker 1

And you'll never face that I never knew you.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know, there was actually

Speaker 1

有

there is

Speaker 0

a Christian professor at Gutenberg College, and he actually says, you know, when we have this question from Christ, it seems like it's so simple, you know, to give up all.

Speaker 0

But it's kind of like a God is asking you for a lot, but he's also not asking you for a lot because he's asking you to do the same thing that he did.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And so every time there is a charge that there's some sort of cost for you, you know, we have to be reminded, well, there was a cost paid for you first, you know?

Speaker 0

And we can we can really get hung up on this, you know, and we can say like, you know, kind of like the the five virgins, like, you know, I consider this ample supply enough.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

This is my ample that I can just make it over the hill or I can just make it in a way where yes, if I were to pray, God knows who I am.

Speaker 0

We've prayed before or I've prayed before.

Speaker 0

We've talked before, you know.

Speaker 0

There's not always a hunger there.

Speaker 0

Sometimes it can be a formality or a procedure and we can checkmark it.

Speaker 0

Okay, God, I have confessed.

Speaker 0

I have said the thing.

Speaker 0

I have read the prayer.

Speaker 0

I have followed this person's instructions, but their heart is not really open.

Speaker 0

So, really love what you're saying, Michelle, because when someone truly loves you, they do spend time with you.

Speaker 0

They do seek you.

Speaker 0

And what does God promise in his word?

Speaker 0

He says, if you seek me, I will be found by you.

Speaker 1

Beautiful.

Speaker 1

Luke 13, I'm just gonna belabor this point.

Speaker 1

Someone asked him, Lord, are there only a few people going to be saved?

Speaker 1

And he answered, make every effort to enter through the narrow door.

Speaker 1

Many will try to enter and will not be able.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, sir, open the door for us, but I will answer, I don't know you.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You will say, we ate with you.

Speaker 1

We drank with you.

Speaker 1

You taught in our streets, but I will say, I don't know you.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And we wanna spare people from that.

Speaker 1

是的。

Right.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

Don't fool yourself.

Speaker 1

The day is coming.

Speaker 1

And people have been talking about this parable for not decades, centuries.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, what does this really mean?

Speaker 1

Did they have salvation?

Speaker 1

Those five foolish girls.

Speaker 1

And did that burning lamp run out?

Speaker 1

Well, no.

Speaker 1

Because once you're saved, you're always saved.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Nothing can take you out of God's hand.

Speaker 0

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

But Psalm 40, 14 says, the fool said in his heart, there's no God.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Know, a fool is not someone who doesn't lack intelligence.

Speaker 1

They understand completely who God is, who they are, but they're making a moral and spiritual rejection of divine authority and accountability.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

They want to live their own way.

Speaker 1

And it's a denial from the heart to be free.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

What do you mean I gotta tithe 10%?

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

I don't think so.

Speaker 1

What do you mean I gotta stop drinking?

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

I don't think so.

Speaker 1

What do you mean I have to come to three services a week?

Speaker 1

Are you kidding?

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

I don't think so.

Speaker 1

And it's people who live and act as though there is no God.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

That's what they're portraying.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

And and we're not we're not there to check people's behavior.

Speaker 1

Basically, I don't care what you do.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, you are a free agent.

Speaker 1

Live unto God.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

And because I do.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

But second Timothy says, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 1

They had lamps.

Speaker 1

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

They're standing there with everybody else that night.

Speaker 1

You know, you can act so good on the outside.

Speaker 1

Know the rules, say the words, but you don't have the power.

Speaker 1

And that's what we want, that beautiful power that God can give us.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

Absolutely.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I have a quote here from his name is professor Crabtree from Gutenberg College, and he says, the oil that the foolish virgins found depleted when the bridegroom came is analogous to our desire for belief in and commitment to the eternal life which God has promised.

Speaker 0

Many people will desire it.

Speaker 0

Many will believe God's promise.

Speaker 0

Many will commit themselves to wait for its realization.

Speaker 0

But only a few will find their desire, their belief, and their commitment in ample supply.

Speaker 0

Time and the flame of the weary, mundane, ordinariness of life will try to lick dry our desire for the kingdom and our belief in God's promise.

Speaker 1

Beautiful.

Speaker 1

We've got a lot of comments on Facebook and YouTube.

Speaker 1

Thank you for joining us.

Speaker 1

Aretta, Kia.

Speaker 1

Thank you, God.

Speaker 1

Beautiful girls.

Speaker 1

We love you, Kathy.

Speaker 0

Oh, great to see you.

Speaker 0

Great to have you.

Speaker 1

But you know, this the severity of this parable, the split down the middle, shouldn't cause any fear for us.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

Because God says he knows his own.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

They will not ever be shut out or perish.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, He says, My sheep listen to My voice.

Speaker 1

I know them.

Speaker 1

They follow Me.

Speaker 1

I give them eternal life.

Speaker 1

Woo hoo.

Speaker 1

They shall never perish.

Speaker 1

No one can snatch them out of my hand.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

But the central takeaway from this is just one two words.

Speaker 1

Two words.

Speaker 1

Keep watch.

Speaker 1

And that's Matthew twenty five thirteen.

Speaker 0

I love it.

Speaker 1

Keep watch.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

You don't know the day or the hour.

Speaker 0

对。

Yes.

Speaker 0

I love that.

Speaker 0

And that's why just as you referenced before, Michelle, the Psalm ninety twelve, you know, when we think about that verse about David pleading, God teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Speaker 0

You know, we're asking God to help us be intentional about the time, remembering Him at the center.

Speaker 0

Because when you redefine the day, when you redefine the perspective, when you redefine the situation according to God at the center, it is amazing how many other things begin falling away because they're there.

Speaker 0

And sometimes they're even mildly important.

Speaker 0

Maybe they're very, very important, but God is always most important.

Speaker 0

And so if I'm willing to submit or if I'm willing to die to something for the sake of Christ.

Speaker 0

It's amazing how when I push the focus off of myself and I realize and remind myself, I'm actually here to carry out the will of God.

Speaker 0

That's actually why I'm here.

Speaker 0

And so as I'm keeping watch, I'm saying, Lord, while I'm waiting I don't know if you've heard that song before.

Speaker 0

While I'm waiting

Speaker 1

don't know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1

Well, it's

Speaker 0

a great song.

Speaker 0

And it's just about being intentional with the time as you're waiting on the Lord.

Speaker 1

真美。

That's beautiful.

Speaker 0

Instead of being lazy, instead of trying to rewrite rewrite His will yet again, you know, we're saying, okay, God, I need your wisdom daily because I'm not sure what the call is on my life for today or tomorrow or next week or even this season.

Speaker 0

I remember hearing pastor Shubelli, our missions director, say years ago.

Speaker 0

I mean, this is like Africa night in 2010.

Speaker 0

And I remember him saying to all of us, you know, the call of God could be for a season, a day, or even for an hour.

Speaker 0

真美。

Beautiful.

Speaker 0

So pray and ask God, what is your will?

Speaker 0

And we have to continually ask him because he knows everyone around us and he loves people.

Speaker 0

So we are not saved for our own individual purpose.

Speaker 0

There is someone we are meant to meet, whether it's on the street, at a job, maybe a job we even hate, but there's something about quitting that is convicting us.

Speaker 0

And it could be that pull, You know, God's saying, I want her.

Speaker 0

I want him, and I wanna use you in order to speak my truth.

Speaker 0

And I will water the seed, but I'm using you.

Speaker 0

So we we need God's perspective daily to remember.

Speaker 0

That's why we are numbering our days.

Speaker 0

That's why we are keeping watch because God is always doing a work, and it's a blessing that we get to be a part of it.

Speaker 1

You know, we spend money on a lot of foolish things.

Speaker 1

对。

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

There's a yacht that costs $4,800,000,000.

Speaker 0

天哪

Oh my

Speaker 1

gosh.

Speaker 1

It's a boat.

Speaker 1

哇。

Wow.

Speaker 1

But everything is gold and platinum and precious stones.
