Guys, you know when we were making the movie Pop Star, I was out in Los Angeles editing for seven and a half months with Akiva, my dude, And I've stayed at a lot of homes on Airbnb.

Speaker 1

I stayed at ones on the East Side, West Side Of Los Angeles, near Judd's office when we were making stuff.

Speaker 1

And I kept changing places just for the experience of it.

Speaker 1

It was great.

Speaker 1

I felt like I was in actual neighborhoods, and, I stayed in Abbot Kinney.

Speaker 1

Speaker 1

It's the Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast show.

Speaker 3

I'm gonna just start

Speaker 0

and say this, Really enjoyed the last pod so much.

Speaker 1

Did you?

Speaker 1

We didn't talk about it.

Speaker 1

I was worried that you hated it because you didn't mention.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

The pod was great.

Speaker 0

Can I just say a few things that just delighted me to no end?

Speaker 1

Oh, I figured immediately go into criticisms.

Speaker 1

But okay.

Speaker 0

Oh, no.

Speaker 0

I was full delight.

Speaker 0

Okay.

Speaker 0

I liked how quickly when I think to myself, what's the podcast gonna be like when I'm not on it?

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Within a minute, Jorm said, amphibians don't have nipples.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

I I had that same thought.

Speaker 1

I was like, I feel like it's already off the rails.

Speaker 0

It was immediately off the rails.

Speaker 0

I knew it would be, and I feel like I don't know.

Speaker 0

Keev

Keev is like a decent to okay substitute teacher.

Speaker 3

That's great.

Speaker 3

I thought he was

Speaker 1

pretty good.

Speaker 1

I mean, was reading the class notes.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

He's he's great.

Speaker 0

Look, don't get me wrong.

Speaker 0

It's a great episode.

Speaker 0

But, like, I think he has a little bit you're a little bit you're not quite Jack Black in School of Rock, but I feel like you want these guys to rock.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

And I'm not Yeah.

Speaker 4

I'm not keeping the train I'm keeping it on

Speaker 3

the tracks, but not on schedule.

Speaker 1

He's one of the classmates who's who happens to be the teacher for that episode.

Speaker 0

Well, I almost think that, like, you're like a substitute teacher right away.

Speaker 0

He's like, yeah.

Speaker 0

When we talk about science in here, we get in trouble.

Speaker 0

Let's rock.

Speaker 0

我是

I'm

Speaker 4

like, like, a teacher assistant who maybe Yeah.

Speaker 3

Just graduated two years ago and Yeah.

Speaker 0

You're maybe, like, friends with two of the kids in the class somehow.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Are you used to babysit him?

Speaker 0

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

Do you you guys have that that remembrance?

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

I I know you do did keep like, at Berkeley Higher, I remember actually doing the math later and being like, oh, our student teachers were only a couple years older than us.

Speaker 1

I went on a Spanish trip to Mexico and was joshing around with the student teachers and trying to get them to drink with us.

Speaker 1

And, like, being like, wait a minute.

Speaker 1

This isn't bad.

Speaker 1

Like, they're only, like, a couple years older than us because they were, like, considering it, you know.

Speaker 1

Not that you should drink in high school.

Speaker 1

You shouldn't drink at all, guys, until you're 21.

Speaker 0

I had a fantastic time in foggy London town, for what it's worth.

Speaker 1

Oh, do tell.

Speaker 1

Give us some highlights.

Speaker 0

As foggy as I wanted it to be, I went on Graham Norton show for the first time, which is sort of a dream come true.

Speaker 0

A dream come less than true is that Graham Norton actually asked me why Andy was so mean to Frisbee, and then showed a picture of Frisbee, which was I felt an unflattering photo of Frisbee.

Speaker 0

And then after the show, Kate Winslet, Andy's best friend, had her son there, and the son said, oh, I love Andy.

Speaker 0

And I said, yeah, but he's a little mean about my dog.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 0

And he's like, no.

Speaker 0

So it was so it was it was British Frisbee bashing over there?

Speaker 0

He was like, whatever Andy says, I'll back him up.

Speaker 0

And I was like, I don't need this.

Speaker 1

Oh, I thought it was based on actually seeing the photo and and being like, oh, no.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

That that tracks.

Speaker 0

That's funny.

Speaker 0

I think it was more loyalty to Andy, but he certainly didn't feel as though Frisbee had been done dirty.

Speaker 1

Frisbee's picture doesn't do him any services.

Speaker 0

I was also over there with Erin David.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 0

Producer on Hot Rod.

Speaker 3

当然。

Of course.

Speaker 3

She still works for Broadway.

Speaker 3

She helped or she put together the fiftieth, the music side, right, special?

Speaker 3

那不是

Wasn't that

Speaker 0

She her did.

Speaker 0

She was a producer on that fantastic, yeah, Radio City concert.

Speaker 0

I mean, she's, as you guys know, an all time great hang.

Speaker 1

All time.

Speaker 0

And it was great it was great being in London.

Speaker 0

I'm in London so long.

Speaker 0

Really enjoyed it.

Speaker 1

We went to a dinner with Aaron David, and it was with Lauren as well.

Speaker 1

And wine was coming around the table, and Erin was like, oh, no.

Speaker 1

None for me.

Speaker 1

And we were like, are you pregnant?

Speaker 1

And she was like, yep.

Speaker 1

We immediately.

Speaker 1

We were like, oh, no wine for Erin?

Speaker 1

She's pregnant.

Speaker 3

Now, Seth, are you allowed to tell the other reason you were out there, or is that kind of not a thing?

Speaker 0

SNL UK is officially I'm gonna talk around it Yeah.

Speaker 0

Because I can't quite figure out what I'm supposed to say, but I will say this.

Speaker 0

SNL UK is officially happening in March, and it's really exciting.

Speaker 0

And if I was there for that, I would probably meet a bunch of different British comedians.

Speaker 0

And I would even venture to say that more than one of them said Quaid Army to me.

Speaker 3

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 3

They're doing the they, in this hypothetical, are doing their research about

Speaker 0

I I don't feel as though this was a a it would have been an assignment.

Speaker 0

I think they would have found this independently and then been in the situation where it would be just a piece of good fortune if they ran into me to be able in a position to say equate army.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna go ahead and say that they were sucking up.

Speaker 0

No suck ups.

Speaker 0

I'll tell you that much.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

English people don't do that as much.

Speaker 3

Just young, excited comedians ready to make their mark.

Speaker 0

Young, excited, manger.

Speaker 0

Oh, speaking of I got one one other hot rod happened to me over there in Foggy London town.

Speaker 0

Randomly ran into hot rods Will Arnett at a restaurant.

Speaker 0

Oh, wow.

Speaker 0

Where are you

Speaker 3

going in New York?

Speaker 3

I mean, in London.

Speaker 3

That's so cool.

Speaker 3

Because he's out there promoting the Bradley Cooper stand up.

Speaker 0

Is this thing on?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Is that what it's called?

Speaker 0

Is this thing on?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I think so.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

He and he and Laura Dern.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

They were out there doing screeners for the BAFTAs.

Speaker 0

What did you guys figure out the BAFTAs were last week?

Speaker 0

A guy who was taking a bath?

Speaker 2

Oh, an award for baths.

Speaker 2

这个

The

Speaker 1

best BAFTAs.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

They're like in Guy Ritchie movies and stuff.

Speaker 2

That was the cleanest bath I've had.

Speaker 1

Bath duh.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna drown you

Speaker 0

in a bath.

Speaker 0

再见。

And then say goodbye.

Speaker 0

Ta.

Speaker 0

Ta.

Speaker 0

Because I think tuh.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Really?

Speaker 0

Because they're dying in

Speaker 3

the bath.

Speaker 3

So it's

Speaker 1

I'm gonna drown you in a bath.

Speaker 3

Here's your bath.

Speaker 1

Ta。

Ta.

Speaker 1

It's probably ta and then gunshot.

Speaker 1

Ta。

Ta.

Speaker 0

The the transporter, he's won, like, 25 straight BAFTAs.

Speaker 3

They give them to the characters

Speaker 1

or the Yeah.

Speaker 1

Because they're that sarcastic.

Speaker 3

And the next BAFTA goes to the transporter for the twenty fifth year in a row.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

They give it to the they wanted they were like, it's just gonna be Statham every year, so we should give they will should start giving it to his character's name.

Speaker 3

Got it.

Speaker 3

They're like, this year, it was a tight race between the beekeeper and the and the transporter six.

Speaker 0

Shit.

Speaker 0

Now, have I told on this podcast, have I told this story about Shoemaker and I waiting for our valet car in front of a hotel with Jason Statham in Beverly Hills?

Speaker 1

没有。

No.

Speaker 1

I don't think so.

Speaker 1

Alright.

Speaker 1

But don't ask me.

Speaker 1

You know what mean?

Speaker 0

Optima

Shoemaker and I were waiting for a rental car, which was like, I'm pretty sure, like, a Kia Optima

Speaker 3

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Or something along the lines.

Speaker 1

而且我

And I

Speaker 0

remember we're standing there, and Jason Statham was standing next to us.

Speaker 0

And I just had this feeling of like, oh, please don't let our car come first.

Speaker 0

先。

First.

Speaker 0

Jesus Statham's car came out, and my memory of it is it was like a foot off the ground, and he like like a giant door open, and he just like lied down like you would in the bed and drove off.

Speaker 0

It was like it was like the flattest, coolest car.

Speaker 0

I was like, what is this?

Speaker 0

It was like a souped up Roomba.

Speaker 0

And he just like drove off.

Speaker 2

Is I'll be taking my car now.

Speaker 1

And I thought it went over okay as a joke.

Speaker 1

But, yeah, it was a pretty

Speaker 0

cool car.

Speaker 0

It's kinda nuts for all I mean, again, The Rock's successes, every one of them, well earned.

Speaker 0

But I was just listening you know, we were listening to him sing on the Moana soundtrack, which is a real favorite.

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 0

不是。

No.

Speaker 0

I'm the opposite.

Speaker 0

I I'm like, on top of everything else, he's got a banger musical number.

Speaker 1

He does have a banger music.

Speaker 0

You're welcome is a great song.

Speaker 0

Hey, you mentioned here's something I that I think would be since no one else is on, maybe this would be a fun thing for you to do.

Speaker 0

You mentioned that Carole King has a song called Bend to Canaan.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

不对。

No.

Speaker 1

You're are you gonna rip on Where My House Is?

Speaker 0

不对。

No.

Speaker 0

不对。

No.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

I'm gonna rip on the fact that you said you she wrote a song about the place where you fell off the ladder.

Speaker 0

Oh, okay.

Speaker 0

You said that.

Speaker 0

Your words, man.

Speaker 0

I feel like you should, in that great Jorm ish sound mixing way Yeah.

Speaker 0

Make a version where we hear you fall off a ladder in the background of that song.

Speaker 1

Oh, yes.

Speaker 1

Like the way that Harper Steele added herself to the Tom Wade songs.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Can you hear me?

Speaker 2

I need an ambulance.

Speaker 1

Like, basically that.

Speaker 0

好。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And you must say to the guys, like, you'd be like, hey.

Speaker 0

Remember I said that?

Speaker 0

It's really cool because if you actually listen, there's like a a very subtle moment where it almost, like, predicts my fall.

Speaker 1

Very subtle.

Speaker 2

Carol, now.

Speaker 2

Carole, call an ambulance.

Speaker 2

Don't get back on the microphone.

Speaker 2

I need you, Carole.

Speaker 0

Carole, these fucking fairy lights.

Speaker 2

By the way, I went up

Speaker 1

there finally to Kainan to the scene of the crime.

Speaker 0

Nobody had put up

Speaker 1

灯。

the lights.

Speaker 1

Seth, I've been promised that they would, and

Speaker 0

Who who would make that promise to you?

Speaker 0

Somebody who thought you were gonna My wife.

Speaker 1

Me and my wife.

Speaker 0

I feel like that's the only promise you make to somebody who's never gonna make it back to look at it.

Speaker 0

I mean, I thought the promise would be no one will ever try to hang lights there ever again.

Speaker 1

I I I gotta tell you, Seth, the minute I saw it, like a strand of lights sitting there not being put up, I wanted to get back up there immediately.

Speaker 0

You have you have not learned what's known as Jorm's lesson.

Speaker 0

没有。

No.

Speaker 0

Is that what it's called?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Keeve

Speaker 1

in the parlance of our podcast?

Speaker 0

Keeve,

Keeve, congrats on your Critics Choice nomination.

Speaker 3

Oh, well, thank you.

Speaker 0

Mentioned in the last pod.

Speaker 3

Right back at you, Seth.

Speaker 0

Oh my god.

Speaker 0

谢谢,Kev。

Thanks, Kev.

Speaker 0

You spared me the indignity of having to mention it myself.

Speaker 1

And I got solid today.

Speaker 0

Oh, nice.

Speaker 0

Thanks.

Speaker 0

It's a real it is an honor to be nominated.

Speaker 0

I feel like well, I don't wanna throw a jinx on anything.

Speaker 0

We got no shot, but I like getting the old nomination.

Speaker 0

My last thing I wanna say about the last part, I laughed the hardest, I think, at Andy's Fuck Mary, Kill.

Speaker 1

It wasn't Winter

Speaker 3

Soldier?

Speaker 3

It was

Speaker 0

it was Winter Soldier, noodle arms, Captain America before the serum, and a hot lady.

Speaker 3

That's a tough one.

Speaker 3

Even now, I'm I'm it's just like, oh, don't make me choose.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I do noodle arms is such a Andy phrase too.

Speaker 1

It's it's very It's

Speaker 0

the best.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's really good.

Speaker 0

Noodle arms.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

He said noodle arms a lot.

Speaker 0

Do we need

Speaker 3

to quickly do a little pickup where we say Andy's not on the pod today at the top of the show?

Speaker 1

I think they

Speaker 0

Well, why don't I do the pickup later in my closet with bad audio?

Speaker 3

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 3

Great.

Speaker 3

Just come in and all of a sudden be like, Seth interrupting here to say Andy's nod on the hall.

Speaker 0

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 0

But I think I might know why he's been so hard to schedule.

Speaker 0

Jack Black, real quick.

Speaker 1

拼写B。

Spelling b.

Speaker 1

拼写B。

Spelling b.

Speaker 0

Andy's on a bit of a bad tear in the old b.

Speaker 0

I can I can tell you that today, he bailed five short, and yesterday, he bailed seven short?

Speaker 1

Oh, no wonder.

Speaker 3

Is this because he's stressed about work stuff?

Speaker 3

I know he's been a little stressed right now.

Speaker 0

Oh, I I don't I think that he might be stressed cause he bailed seven short and he bailed five short.

Speaker 0

Like, you think his stress is getting in the way of his spelling bee, but I think his spelling bee failures are making Yeah.

Speaker 0

Him seem stressed

Speaker 1

That's difficult to say.

Speaker 0

Oh, somebody today, I got a real specific question, which during my q and a, somebody, you know, they opened Quaid Army.

Speaker 0

I gave him a righteous kill.

Speaker 0

And they said, I wanna apologize to everybody else here.

Speaker 0

I have a hyper specific question about New York Times games.

Speaker 0

And I said, great.

Speaker 0

And they said, when Andy clean bees, does that mean he didn't do any hints at all?

Speaker 0

And I was like, that is correct.

Speaker 0

And then it was just like everybody in the room being like, what the hell is going on?

Speaker 3

But by the way, we've covered this on the pod, and I don't think that's entirely true.

Speaker 3

It's his own set of rules.

Speaker 0

Like, Oh, a 100%.

Speaker 3

He allows himself the hint of how many words are there total.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And I think

Speaker 3

some people would consider that a hint.

Speaker 3

He said he's gotten it absolutely clean, zero anything a few times, but that it would take up his entire life if he tried to do that every day.

Speaker 3

He needs a little bit of a parameter of how many words are left.

Speaker 0

I feel like, again, he is he's a savant.

Speaker 0

We had Ike Baronholtz on the show today, and as I explained to the audience, like, the way Andy is good at Spelling Bee is the way that Ike is really good at Jeopardy, is it's not what you would think.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

He he won the celebrity Jeopardy.

Speaker 3

He won a million bucks for a charity.

Speaker 0

Oh, wow.

Speaker 3

It was televised.

Speaker 3

You can watch it.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

It's multiple episodes where he has to win each episode to get to the final one.

Speaker 0

And I will tell you from having spent a lot of time in Ike's company when Jeopardy aired, like spending summers living in the same, house as him, he was a Jeopardy savant years before he got a chance to be famous enough to be on Celebrity Jeopardy.

Speaker 3

Did he win Who Wants to Be a Millionaire as well?

Speaker 0

He did.

Speaker 0

He won it with his dad.

Speaker 0

Wow.

Speaker 3

So he's done both?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

He basically is, you know, trivia a savant.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

That's like me too.

Speaker 3

没错。

Yep.

Speaker 3

Steel trap.

Speaker 1

对。

Yep.

Speaker 1

Just move on to the next thing we're talking about.

Speaker 0

You you won Who Wants to Be Here for a Nice Time?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yep.

Speaker 1

而且我

And I

Speaker 3

You got to the top level.

Speaker 1

I got I got I a middling middling results on that, actually.

Speaker 1

So Yeah.

Speaker 0

I've got a lot of questions to read, but also, should we just, like, knock out Cherry Battle?

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

It's only weird for us to do it because Andy's not here because it I mean, it was my idea, so it's not like it was his.

Speaker 3

But it was like, Jorm, were you there that week?

Speaker 3

Oh, I was there, man.

Speaker 3

Like, MacGruber time.

Speaker 3

You were there.

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

在场。

Was there.

Speaker 3

But did we show are we gonna do

Speaker 0

it just without him?

Speaker 0

Let's just do a quick Cherry Battle

Speaker 3

好的。

Okay.

Speaker 0

And then go into a q and a.

Speaker 3

Well, I'll tell you, it was similar to a lot of these.

Speaker 3

It was, I think, Thursday night, but maybe it was Wednesday night.

Speaker 3

Me and Andy would share a car service, cause we lived like a block away from each other.

Speaker 3

And it was in, like, the last block.

Speaker 3

I have a very, very distinct memory, and it was, like, 03:30, 4AM because we've been trying to think of something.

Speaker 3

And all of a sudden, right as it was pulling up to my house, I was just like, what if we use the Phantom camera from my threw it on the ground again, do super slow mo, and put it all in reverse so it looks like you guys are spitting cherries into each other's mouths from impossibly far lengths?

Speaker 3

And he was like, yeah.

Speaker 3

And I was like, oh, okay.

Speaker 3

And then we just got out, and then we got to work early the next day to just put it all in motion.

Speaker 3

Think I wrote

Speaker 1

some emails.

Speaker 1

Explain your, like, your thought process of, like, why why?

Speaker 1

Why did why that idea?

Speaker 3

You know how it is.

Speaker 3

You know, when we've just been trying to think of a short idea for three days straight and staying up way too late.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And I mean, I'm sure we did for three days, like, up to up into that point.

Speaker 3

没错。

Like Exactly.

Speaker 3

Because I think it might have been even Thursday night.

Speaker 3

I don't know what night.

Speaker 3

It was late in the week.

Speaker 3

And I have no idea.

Speaker 1

We would we would start that process on Mondays usually, like, of, like, at least trying to smash our brains against a rock, like, you know Yeah.

Speaker 1

And sometimes it

Speaker 3

would work,

Speaker 1

and sometimes it didn't.

Speaker 3

It's not a good enough idea that if you came up with it on Monday, you'd go, that's it.

Speaker 3

对。

Right.

Speaker 3

It takes it being at the last minute where you just need something where you can go, okay.

Speaker 3

Let's give that a go.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And by the way, this is one of my more favorite ish off center shorts.

Speaker 0

There's a there is a moment in it where I wonder, Keev, have you watched it today?

Speaker 3

没有。

No.

Speaker 3

I I'm pulling it up right now, so we can Okay.

Speaker 0

I bet there's something I I'm not this kind of guy.

Speaker 0

There's a shot that bothers me, Keef.

Speaker 3

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 3

Interesting.

Speaker 3

Well so, again, like, throw it on the ground, we we were, I think, on your stage.

Speaker 3

Seth, will you do your show now?

Speaker 0

Oh my god.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

And we had to blast so much light for it to shoot at 500 frames a second to be able to see everything.

Speaker 3

Like, it was boiling hot because we have all these lights, and it's getting so hot.

Speaker 3

And it was a little hard to see certain things and

Speaker 0

Heavy costume.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

We didn't quite have a plan, a total plan of what it was gonna be, because we didn't know if it was even gonna work.

Speaker 3

It was definitely experimental.

Speaker 3

But I do remember Brian Tucker, the writer, after it aired or after Dress, saying something really nice that stuck with me that kind of made it you know, when you hear someone else's opinion, it becomes your opinion.

Speaker 3

In the nice way, he was just like, You guys still have some tricks up your sleeve.

Speaker 3

Like, this was nothing like anything you did before, even this late in the game.

Speaker 3

And I that was kind of what I

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

不错。

Nice.

Speaker 3

I went, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3

很好。

Good.

Speaker 3

And so I have a fond feeling of it because of that.

Speaker 1

That's also nice coming from Tucker too, especially.

Speaker 1

I I did always trust his opinion on shit.

Speaker 0

I liked this very much when it aired.

Speaker 0

I liked it very much watching it again today.

Speaker 0

I felt the same way.

Speaker 0

Also, I really like the way the audience is laughing at it because certain people are really tickled by it, and they stay tickled by it.

Speaker 0

And that's a nice thing as well, which is it's not for everybody, but for a lot of people, were just enjoying it so much.

Speaker 3

Of everything we did, this is maybe the closest to art, We're like, if you were at Yeah.

Speaker 3

MoMA, and you were going through the different rooms, and then there's the one that's playing a weird video, and you're like, what is this?

Speaker 3

And you can sit on one of those padded, you know, square stools for a second, and you look at it, and it's two people spitting cherries in super slow one, and you're like,

Speaker 1

That's very true.

Speaker 1

I once saw an exhibit of just rocks falling down a hill in slow mo, and I was like, this is captivating.

Speaker 3

So yeah.

Speaker 3

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 3

So, you know.

Speaker 3

I don't know if you

Speaker 0

guys ever saw my documentary now episode that was based on Marina Abramovich.

Speaker 3

Oh, god.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

The the woman who's With there

Speaker 0

Kate Blanchett?

Speaker 3

I definitely did, but I don't remember it very well.

Speaker 3

But it was I remember it being good.

Speaker 0

But I was at an event recently, and the real Marina Abramovich was there.

Speaker 0

And I had this moment of like, fuck it.

Speaker 0

Maybe I'll just try.

Speaker 0

I So walked over and go, hey.

Speaker 0

I don't know if you ever saw this thing with Kate Blanchett, but I wrote that.

Speaker 0

And it was the absolute a plus reaction from her.

Speaker 3

Meaning She

Speaker 0

had she had seen it and loved it.

Speaker 0

Oh, great.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I thought you meant, like, just like just staring through your head.

Speaker 0

Totally.

Speaker 0

But she she said, like, I I something along the lines of, like, you have a Balkan sense of humor.

Speaker 0

Fantastic.

Speaker 1

That's fantastic.

Speaker 1

A real high praise.

Now it's just past Thanksgiving here, and grandma and grandpa, my in laws, were just in town.

Speaker 4

But because we don't have room in our house, they used Airbnb to find a house to stay at.

Speaker 3

Now you both visited it.

Speaker 3

It was nearby.

Speaker 3

What were some of the great parts about it that was different from

Speaker 4

if you were visiting them at a hotel?

Speaker 5

It had a very nice private outdoor patio.

Speaker 5

And on the inside, they had, like, their own TV, many rooms.

Speaker 5

They had the kitchen.

Speaker 5

They had their own living room.

Speaker 5

They had their own bedroom.

Speaker 5

And they had, I think, maybe an extra room.

Speaker 5

I didn't see it.

Speaker 4

What about bathrooms?

Speaker 4

What was the bathroom situation?

Speaker 5

Well, very nice and private.

Speaker 5

But what I really liked was just how much extra space and how we had, like, privacy.

Speaker 5

So when I visited them, I didn't have to worry about, like, being too loud.

Speaker 5

I could, like, go crazy and lair.

Speaker 5

You also get to skip the receptionist at the beginning to say, oh, our grandparents are staying here.

Speaker 5

We are here to visit them.

Speaker 5

You just skip that whole process, you're just gonna knock on the door and go right in.

Speaker 4

What about the kitchen?

Speaker 4

It's so nice because hotels don't have kitchens.

Speaker 5

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 5

I had a nicely working refrigerator, sink.

Speaker 5

There were already plates and bowls there.

Speaker 5

So when I got there, I ate some fresh blueberries.

Speaker 4

Now what would you think of next time we were using Airbnb to find a house and then we wanted to offset that money by letting people use our house for Airbnb?

Speaker 5

We actually have some friends who do that.

Speaker 5

They have a nice house in Lake Arrowhead, and they only go there every now and then, so they let people stay there.

Speaker 5

And it's right by the lake.

Little extra pocket money for what do I use my pocket money for?

Speaker 3

Oh, cool.

Speaker 3

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Why are they they're so on board in a lovely way.

Speaker 1

It's already great.

Speaker 1

Well, the music is helpful.

Speaker 3

But they're like, oh, even more than one.

Speaker 3

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 3

I love the little thud sounds it's making.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Remember, we did have to we did have to move the cherries over because they weren't reaching, obviously.

Speaker 3

It's really funny how they how she's able

Speaker 0

to catch them all.

Speaker 0

And they're like they're versus each other.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

But it seems like they're working together.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Like well, yeah.

Speaker 3

It is a battle, but maybe the battle's them versus Cherries.

Speaker 3

I don't know.

Speaker 3

好。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Weird.

Speaker 0

Great Andy faces.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

He's angry about that.

Speaker 3

So now it's what's it gonna be?

Speaker 3

Oh, just one.

Speaker 3

对。

Right.

Speaker 3

Oh, right.

Speaker 0

Now Cherry with a face singing.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's lovely.

Speaker 1

She doesn't wanna eat it.

Speaker 3

She doesn't wanna eat that one.

Speaker 3

It's Jorm yelling clearly.

Speaker 1

What was your least favorite shot, Seth?

Speaker 1

I was I was trying to pick it up.

Speaker 0

Was your Kyiv peeve?

Speaker 0

My Kyiv peeve is if you go back, there's a moment where Andy looks smug in the single and then it cuts so wide and he's screaming.

Speaker 3

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 3

Right before

Speaker 0

this?

Speaker 0

Like, farther near closer to the end.

Speaker 0

Go back to, like, a a self satisfied single.

Speaker 1

This guy got the continuity or

Speaker 3

那里。

there.

Speaker 0

There.

Speaker 0

There.

Speaker 0

Alright.

Speaker 1

哦。

Oh.

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

当然。

Sure.

Speaker 3

You know what's interesting about that?

Speaker 3

Every piece of this is doctored, of course.

Speaker 3

Like Right.

Speaker 3

You know?

Speaker 3

So I could've we could've made any choice.

Speaker 3

It's not like, oh, it's yeah.

Speaker 3

It's because he did that.

Speaker 1

Well, and the edit's so slow too.

Speaker 1

It's not like there was, like, so many shots that we were rushing through it.

Speaker 1

Not like we ever No.

Speaker 3

不。

No.

Speaker 3

You're we easily could've chosen earlier even in this shot on his side Yeah.

Speaker 3

And just wrote it back to when he starts to scream to give you the a transitional moment.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Easily.

Speaker 3

I don't know why we made that choice.

Speaker 3

There's a chance we cut something out between dress and air.

Speaker 0

I bet that's it.

Speaker 0

There's a chance.

Speaker 0

那就是

That's what

Speaker 1

原因。

it was.

Speaker 1

对。

Right.

Speaker 1

Because they're because they're never actually in these shots together.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

Or no.

Speaker 1

Were they?

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

Like, was this an actual shot?

Speaker 1

This wasn't.

Speaker 3

Right?

Speaker 3

Maybe maybe we did one where the two of them are facing each other, but I doubt it just for lighting wise.

Speaker 3

I don't think we lit that big a space.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Oh, no.

Speaker 3

We must have for the cherry.

Speaker 3

So we probably did set up this two shot, but I don't but none of what they're doing is at the same time.

Speaker 3

Like, they weren't spitting at each other.

Speaker 3

One of them would get out of the way and

Speaker 0

spit a bunch

Speaker 1

of cherries.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 1

没错。

Exactly.

Speaker 3

And then the other one would get out of way and spit a bunch of cherries.

Speaker 3

And we were just like, is there or is this even gonna be vaguely aligned in a way that we could fake?

Speaker 3

What what's cool about this is there's no VFX except for the animated face when he sees.

Speaker 3

There's no there like, we did this all in Mhmm.

Speaker 3

Final Cut Pro。

Final Cut Pro.

Speaker 1

And we go with, like, masks and things like that and, like, moving things over.

Speaker 3

Just cutting up multiple, multiple layers of video and just moving them around on on a space, almost like a collage.

Speaker 3

因为

Well, because

Speaker 1

it was just black behind the cherries.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Because there was because of the lighting situation, the like, when you throw up, you know, a big black wall or or curtains behind people, usually, you see little bits of gray where light hits it.

Speaker 3

But because we had to blast so much light, the background fell to pure black.

Speaker 1

看起来

It looks

Speaker 3

really to just like, those cherries flying in the air, we would just grab from six different takes of six different cherries and just cut them and put them all wherever we wanted them.

Speaker 1

That's really good.

Speaker 0

Now I have a question.

Speaker 0

Did you guys have the song first?

Speaker 0

Did you listen to this song and say, oh, at that moment, we should animate the cherries singing that line?

Speaker 3

没有。

No.

Speaker 3

There's that song, the really famous is it called o Fortuna?

Speaker 3

You know, the really famous, oh, so love me.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

And I think at some point when we were editing, we were like, oh, this should be to a song that sounds like that.

Speaker 3

And then I don't remember, Jorm, if it was a megatrax.

Speaker 1

I don't I don't remember because I because I feel like that kid was in it.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 0

But you had to have known before you were editing that you were gonna animate the singing cherry.

Speaker 0

或者

Or

Speaker 3

什么?不。

what No.

Speaker 3

That was a midway through editing.

Speaker 3

We went, what if this guy starts singing along to the song?

Speaker 3

Like Oh

Speaker 0

my god.

Speaker 3

The order was just starting to edit with no music and just going, alright.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

And it's all happening at once.

Speaker 3

I'm going, what would be a cool song?

Speaker 3

Oh, it should be like that.

Speaker 3

Somebody grabbing us, like, 10 songs that sound like that, choosing one, starting to edit to that music.

Speaker 3

And then we got I remember it was it was really last minute, and I was so happy.

Speaker 3

Somebody from a visual effect like, now they have a team, a room full of VFX artists.

Speaker 3

This was I don't know who did it, but it was somebody that, you know, Mike Pool and Matt Youngs could ask for who was genuinely a VFX artist, and they did such a better job than I thought.

Speaker 1

Or was it somebody through senior Ellie's team, maybe, potentially?

Speaker 3

I don't think so.

Speaker 3

I wonder if I wonder if Dina or or Rachel Lim would remember the details.

Speaker 3

And when they see this, they'll get back to us.

Speaker 3

It can be in the next act so we can credit.

Speaker 3

But I remember being it was so last minute.

Speaker 3

It could have been two or three PM on Saturday, and then that came back, but it was it was so awesome.

Speaker 3

And somebody had to figure out how to get, like, a child voice that could sing along to it, and we managed to pull that off in the last few

Speaker 1

小时。

hours.

Speaker 1

Because because that got added to like, was actually added to the track?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 1

Like, I I don't remember that.

Speaker 1

I don't remember actually getting it.

Speaker 3

And I don't even I we definitely added to the track, and I'm not even sure if we added some of the music to the track there too.

Speaker 3

Like, involved the music department, and we're like, wait.

Speaker 3

Can you create a little bridge right here?

Speaker 3

It was all It

Speaker 1

would kinda make sense if we got it from a a more megatrex y kind of place.

Speaker 3

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 3

But then, you know, it was all very, very last minute.

Speaker 3

But in my opinion, it doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 3

但是,

But,

Speaker 1

yeah, it's art.

Speaker 1

I mean, I do like my VO for for the guy.

Speaker 6

What's up, fellas?

Speaker 6

Andy here.

Speaker 6

Long time shock jock, first time Quaid.

Speaker 6

I I honestly, I don't know.

Speaker 6

Anyway, let's get to it.

Speaker 6

Hit us, Jack Black.

Speaker 3

Spelling bee.

Speaker 1

Spelling bee.

Speaker 6

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 6

So the answer is I got QueenBee clean.

Speaker 6

Pew pew pew pew pew in your face, Seth.

Speaker 6

You're not even hearing this because I'm recording it after the pod.

Speaker 6

So you're probably not gonna hear this until this comes out because we're late in the game now.

Speaker 6

They're just gonna pop this on after everything's been, like, smoothed out and ready for delivery.

Speaker 6

And then you're gonna find out in the eleventh hour, maybe of your entire life, I don't know what your life expectancy is, that I got queen bee and you didn't, and you're a loser and I reign supreme.

Speaker 6

Cherry Battle.

Speaker 6

I remember we had nothing, and we were told we had to do one.

Speaker 6

It was one of those weeks.

Speaker 6

Me and Akiva lived really near each other, and we left late Thursday night in a car.

Speaker 6

We shared cars together often to save a buck or 2 for the show because we were thoughtful.

Speaker 6

And then I feel like right as we were getting out of the car, we had a conversation that was like, maybe do, like, that super slow mo phantom camera thing again.

Speaker 6

And we're just like spitting cherries back and forth.

Speaker 6

And we both started kinda giggling and we were like, yeah, that's probably enough.

Speaker 6

And then we'll just figure out ways to make it more interesting.

Speaker 6

And I think we even right there, we're like, we'll make it kinda like a a gladiator kind of theme and give it like high drama, and that might be enough.

Speaker 6

And I think that was kinda how it happened, but that was my memory.

Speaker 6

And then the shoot was super fun, and we started adding ideas to it.

Speaker 6

And my favorite part of it by far obviously is when that last cherry gets spit and we go to super close on it, and it starts singing in the, like, choir boy voice kinda like I believe I said I wanted it to be exactly like when the bird flies away from Gandalf on the top of the tower in in the two towers or the moth.

Speaker 6

I think it's a moth.
