Welcome to the Mindset Advantage podcast with Doctor.
Tricia Cardiner and Elliot Rowe.
This week we are going to be talking to Evan Jarvis also known as Gripsed about his thoughts on poker mindset and what he feels you need to do to have the best possible world series of poker.
So Tricia, what psychology news do you have for us this week?
Well, I'll tell you what.
I came across a little bit of a study and it had to do with mental toughness, which as you know is one of my favorite topics around poker.
And the question that was looked at in this study was, is there a difference between people who had participated in athletics versus people who had never participated in athletics in terms of their mental toughness.
And what was really interesting is the two groups of people, the athletes versus the non athletes, they saw mental toughness as things like hope, optimism, resilience, perseverance.
That was all the same.
But what they found was is that people who had athletic experience had five times more mental toughness than non athletes.
Wow, and how did they judge the mental toughness level?
Is that the way they behave or?
Well, was through questionnaire of course, and so there were always some issues with that because you know completing a questionnaire is not the same thing as actually being in the middle of a stressful poker game, right?
Or athletic competition as it were.
So keep that in mind, is correlational data, but I still think that maybe the effect size is not that large or maybe it could even be larger.
I don't know depending on you know if better research was done coming down the pike.
But it does seem like there is value in participating in athletics.
So even if you hadn't been athletic before maybe doing something now could increase mental toughness.
I mean certainly in terms of stamina and just with the mental toughness to finish something like a marathon, it's certainly something that's going to be built, isn't it?
As you run around the course, you're going to certainly have push yourself through those barriers.
It definitely makes sense.
Yeah, so get out there and get your running shoes on everybody.
So this week we're talking to Evan Jarvis, as known as Gripsed online.
He has a Twitch channel, YouTube channel.
And he's put together a team of poker players with this idea of having a much more positive poker life and moving things forward, having a clear mindset, being physically fit and he's going to talk us through a lot of his concepts today.
So we'll give Evan a call.
So, thanks, Evan, coming onto the show.
If you could just introduce yourself to our listeners.
是的。
Yeah.
Thank you so much for having me, Elliot and Patricia.
My name is Evan Jarvis.
I am the founder of gripsed.com and the lead instructor at the largest free poker training channel on YouTube.
I played professionally for about ten years.
And now I've made the transition to more part time play because I prefer to focus on business as I feel I've gotten more than my fair share from the game of poker.
It's given me a lot of amazing experiences, introduced me to a lot of incredible people.
And I want to enable and empower others to be able to enjoy the same freedoms.
So that's why I'm now kind of a full time teacher and part time poker player.
Awesome.
Can you Oh, I'm sorry, Elliot.
Carry on.
I was just going to ask you what you think is the best way for someone to go from good to great?
From good to great.
So we're assuming that someone already has like a pretty solid fundamental understanding of the game.
Well, I think one of the most important things that one can focus on to go from good to great is improving their performance, improving their focus, and just improving their attention.
So developing winning habits that the best athletes have, the best mental gamers have, and adding those habits into their regular daily lives so that they become kind of the same mental build as those champions and can perform on those levels.
Because I think the hardest thing when you're really trying to go from good to great and then to excellent is being able to still perform at your best when the pressure is on and when everything's not perfect.
Because we can all play our A game when everything's going well.
We've had a good night's sleep.
We've got some good food in our belly.
All of our tasks and responsibilities have been taken care of.
And everything's quiet around us.
But that's not always going to be how it is when you're playing at the table, especially when stakes get big.
You've got to be ready for those high pressure moments.
So preparing to deal with pressure by developing those winning habits so you can perform at your peak in any circumstances is what I think is most important.
And the next most important thing or something that's very useful to enable you to get to that place is to surround yourself with winners.
What I mean by winners is people who take the game and their lives seriously, who respect themselves, who do the things they can to improve themselves and make the good changes.
And just get kind of that influence around you so that your natural way of going about things is one of constant improvement, openness, enthusiasm, and all those qualities that winners really embody that losers, on the other hand, don't really embody.
And that way, you can be surrounded by people with healthy habits, so those healthy habits will rub off onto you.
And yeah, you can get that real winner's mindset, which will lead to great performance, great confidence, and there's a wondrous amount of snowballing effect that comes with that.
Excellent.
And just thinking about that sort of that winners lifestyle, that wins effect, is that something you've been able to build in your career?
Yeah, it's something that a couple of years ago I realized was really, really important.
Because once we hit a certain age, I think it's about 25, we don't have that kind of unlimited reserve of energy and enthusiasm and passion that we get when we're first getting into the game, when we're super excited, we have no responsibilities, everything's pretty easy.
We can just play, play, play.
Then as life starts to happen, other responsibilities start to happen, health becomes something you got to pay more attention to, it becomes something that needs to be prioritized.
So I've been doing my research on that, learning the real benefits of nutrition and exercise, and not just the importance of doing them, but the right way to go about doing them so as to get the benefits without overdoing it.
Because like anything, you can have too much exercise, too much food, too much sex, too much time with your friends, too much time playing.
It's very easy to do too much and to really overindulge in things because the things that feel good, we really like and we get really addicted to and carried away with them.
So I've spent a lot of time learning the right way to do these things and the right amount of each one to do and the order in which to do them in so as to get the best benefits.
And so far, I feel like I am doing pretty well.
And the more I get into it, the more I learn in terms of other things that I can incorporate.
And yeah, it's going pretty well.
My results have improved since I got into that.
And my passion for the game has come back.
My excitement to learn and to study has come back.
And I just feel so much better about everything since I made health and my attitude my priority.
Let me follow this up by asking you because as this episode airs, we're going to be right in the thick of the World Series of Poker.
How do you prepare for something like the World Series of Poker using all these techniques?
So for me, the first thing I do is I choose the events that is the most important for me.
And I kind of make all my actions based around my performance in that event.
I actually have a sheet of paper downstairs that I wrote out about probably eight weeks ago.
That said, okay, Evan, it's ten weeks till the World Series of Poker and fourteen weeks till the main event.
Every decision you take from here on in is made with the interest of you having the best chance of making the final table of the WSOP main event.
Because that's the tournament I care about the most ever since I found out about it.
I've loved that tournament.
And in 2012, just started thinking World Series main event, World Series main event, World Series main event.
So I focus on it.
Obviously, I think about it a lot.
I try to visualize what it would be like.
I visualize being at the table, the different opponents, the different chip stacks.
I like to rewatch a lot of the footage from old years past so that it can be a lot more real.
So I can kind of simulate it.
And that's something that I want to do every single day and have that reminder, that sheet there every single day so that my priorities when I wake up in the morning are based around that.
I get the reminder that this is what is important.
So on that sheet, I had the list of books that I wanted to read between when I wrote it and before I went to Vegas.
I had the list of videos that I wanted to watch.
I had a list of the most important relationships to be maintaining during that time.
And I also wrote out like who to go to for nutrition advice, fitness advice, mental advice, study advice, theory advice, stuff like that.
So I prioritized everything so that the actions I would be taking each day were kind of my highest value activities when it came to performance in the events, when it came around.
Another thing that I have on that sheet is a listing of my fears and concerns of saying, if I go all in on the main event and all my focus is on the main event, what other areas of my life are going to suffer because of this?
Relationships won't get as much time as they deserve.
Maybe other work activities won't get as much time as they deserve.
Maybe some of the important things will get ignored a little bit.
I'm like, am I okay with that for this ten week period?
Because that's something to be very important to be aware of.
Another thing that came up there was, maybe I'm a little concerned that I'm gonna put it all in, and I'm still not gonna get the results that I wanted.
But by writing that down, I'm like, okay, that's a concern.
I'm okay with that.
And then that's something I can work with.
So that's like my daily reminder that I meditate on every day, every morning.
And then in terms of the actual preparation.
So I mentioned there a few books that I read to fine tune my strategy.
There have been some videos I have been watching to improve my tournament game.
I want to give some credit to Alex Fitzgerald, who is by far the best tournament poker teacher that I found in the last ten years.
His work is absolutely incredible.
And I do a lot of exercising, but not too much.
I do a lot of cardio training because to me, these World Series events are much like a marathon.
So whoever has the stamina to get through the day and play their A game when you know it's eight hours into the session, ten hours into the session, is going to be the person who has the best chance to really succeed in the tournament.
Because that's when you need to be playing your best, is that crunch time at the end where everyone else is fading.
You wanna be the person who's sharp.
So cardio training is very important.
And cardio training is also very beneficial because it gets you used to performing and still functioning when your heart rate is very high.
So that way, when you're playing a session, if someone puts you in an uncomfortable spot and your heart rate just starts pounding, well, instead of your brain shutting down and you just acting with the reptilian or animal or instinctual brain, whatever you want to call it, you can still think a little bit logically because your body's used to being in that elevated heart rate zone as opposed to being like, woah, I've never been here before.
This is really uncomfortable.
I don't know what to do.
I'm going to do something silly.
So we got the training for that.
I do lots of yoga to stay centered, to stay grounded, to stay calm.
I also do lots of stretching so that my body will be flexible and loose and free flowing.
And I think that a free flowing loose body also leads to fluid free flowing thoughts.
So it opens up a lot of stuff for creativity and thinking outside the box, which I think is very important to tournament play.
I also review my students' hand histories so that I can watch how other people won tournaments so that I can be like, okay, this is what's required to win a tournament.
So I'm always doing things in the interest of like winning, winning, winning.
And ironically, the thing that I do the least is play poker.
Because I feel that having played for ten years, I've already got enough experience and that I'm comfortable with how the game kind of flows.
And that live poker and online poker is very different.
So I don't think mass tabling online poker is gonna help me get ready for a live tournament all that much.
So I've been playing very little.
That being said, I do taper my training such that I'm playing more and more poker as I get closer to the World Series.
So it'll all be sharp.
But the start of the year, it's like set the groundwork.
Then it's like, okay, what do we need to fix?
Okay, probably some diet and nutrition.
Okay, then we get the cardio training in.
A month before, then it's like slow down on the cardio training, ramp up the poker training.
And then right before the series, I'm actually taking a week long vacation with my family to just completely unplug, completely relax and recharge the system.
Because like I said before, these things are a marathon.
You need a lot of energy.
And if all I've been doing leading up to the World Series is playing poker, playing poker, playing poker, there is a decent chance that I might not have enough energy as required to then play even more poker.
So I do a lot of relaxing, meditation, just taking naps, going for slow walks, a lot of rejuvenating activities, things like the spa, things like massages, things like hanging out with good people that just bring you up and make you feel better.
I try to focus on doing a lot of those things to keep myself happy, to keep myself feeling good, and to keep myself motivated to go ahead and take care of that task that I set out before.
And I think this is really important because if all I'm doing is grinding, grinding, grinding, and I get disconnected from my goal or I just get tired from all the play, I'm gonna say, is it even worth it?
Like, do I even really want it that bad if this is what it takes?
So by taking a more balanced approach where I can kind of enjoy the journey the whole way along, it makes it much easier to be like, yeah, that is the goal.
That's what we're gonna go for.
That's what we want.
And that's why we're doing all these other activities.
But hey, all these other activities are fun.
So like, even if it doesn't work out, I don't care because look at all this great stuff that's happened from this preparation, this warm up.
And that's why I take this approach towards the World Series and towards the main event.
And I think it's actually rare for someone to take that approach.
Most people are like play, play, play.
And I actually think back to Poker Road's video series where they followed Phil Ivey, him and Barry Greenstein.
And it was before the November 9, and Phil was just doing laps in his house.
He was jogging back and forth.
And Barry just looks at the camera and he's like, yeah, this guy, man, I don't know.
All the other guys are like doing simulations and playing hands and getting coaches.
You know how the best in the world prepares?
He goes jogging.
That's how he prepares for the main event final table.
And I think it says a lot that we need to focus on the things that a lot of people ignore because they get too caught up on the strategy, the strategy, the strategy.
I got to know the strategy cold.
Doesn't matter how well you know the strategy, if you are going to get tired halfway through the day and you can't use those moves that you learned.
So I really focus on trying to have as much energy as I can and doing things that are going to build my confidence and my excitement and my passion and my energy levels for living the dream, which is playing the main event.
I mean, this is so close to what we've been talking about for the last few weeks on the show.
So all of those times we've discussed it, this is the sort of personification of what we're discussing about in terms of deserving to be successful in the World Series.
You know, other guys out there are doing this sort of preparation, this sort of work.
So really to be competitive, you need to be looking at doing these things yourself.
Now, that's obviously a pretty extreme example in terms of doing everything so perfectly in that way.
Was there something that led you to make a big shift in your life like this?
Was there like a moment where you thought something has to change in my poker and then you really jumped feet first into this sort of new lifestyle?
是的。
Yeah.
So back in 2011, I was kind of trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
I playing Mistakes Cash online and doing a little affiliate work on the side.
Were going good, but I didn't feel like they were going excellent.
Like I didn't feel like, oh, this is it.
This is what life's all about.
This is what I've been going for.
And I got really lucky that summer when I went down to Vegas to see my friends before playing the main.
And they were staying with a couple of random people.
I had said I didn't want to stay in the Vegas house that year, so they had to get some replacements.
And one of those people happened to be Greg Merson.
And after that series, we both busted the main event, like on day two or day three.
Fucking unacceptable.
We can't have it like this.
We're better than this.
So he came up to Canada.
He wanted a place to play.
I said I had an extra room.
I was an affiliate.
He was a raked back player.
Was perfect.
So he came up to Canada and I watched him.
And I learned a lot from him.
And I saw when he had his tough point at the beginning and was just kind of too caught up in the addict mindset.
And I'm talking poker here.
I'm just talking like just needing to play, needing to be stimulated all the time.
Things like drinking Crystal Light, like little things like wanting to do coin flips with his friends and being like, yo, you're totally like you're always in the addictive part of your brain.
We got to get you out of there.
So I said, no more coin flips, no more Crystal Light, no more sports betting.
You just play your poker.
And then he had his thing where he had to go home and do a reset.
And he said, Evan, when I come back, I'm gonna be dead sober.
And I'm gonna win a dollar a hand at $5.1 And I'm gonna play a million hands this year.
So I aim to make a million dollars.
And I'm just gonna come back dead sober and I'm gonna win all the money.
And I watched him from January go from restarting playing at one two to within less than six months be playing twenty five fifty, no limit online, like some of the biggest games.
Super confident.
And I just watched what he did.
I'm like, okay, like this seems to be a good way to go about it.
He was playing a lot, but I made sure he got in some yoga.
I made sure he got his exercise in.
And I was making us healthy foods so that he had high quality building blocks.
And we all know what happened that summer.
He picked six events to play.
I think he final tabled three of them and won two of them, including the main event.
And including the 10 ks six max, which he had said at the start that he said, that's the one I wanna win.
That's the Pro Bowl of poker.
That's the tournament I wanna win.
And sure enough, he picked it.
He played so much six max leading up to it that he was more ready and more prepared and more deserving than anyone else of winning that tournament.
And sure enough, he went out and won it.
Obviously, the main event, that was a nice bit of icing on the cake.
But the main thing is he got the tournament that he wanted to win.
I said, Okay, that's pretty awesome.
That's what I want to do.
So then after that, he moved home and I was kind of at a loss again because I felt like I lost a best friend.
So I was trying to find a replacement.
So I had some other players come live with me and it was cool, but something wasn't there.
And I'm like, Okay, well, if I want to be hanging out with people like Greggy again, I need to be fully financially free and I need to be a similar kind of person to what they are.
So what are they?
They're excellent poker players.
What do I need to do?
I need to become the best poker player I can be.
And at first, took the approach of, okay, I'm going to study everything I can.
I'm going to read every book.
I'm just going to play, play, play, I'm going to try to learn everything.
But what happened was I couldn't sit I could do that, but I couldn't sit down and play a session for more than thirty or forty five minutes before my back started hurting.
I'm like, what's going on with this?
And it turns out there was some misalignment with my body, but it was also, there was a lot of nervousness and a lot of pressure because I was like, oh, I got to be the best.
And I'm starting at this point.
So there was so much distance.
So all of the pressure and the nervousness and the tension manifested itself in some physical pain, combined with the fact I wasn't in the best of shape.
So I'm like, okay, you know what?
What I thought about was important, but there are more important things I have to work on first.
So I spent twenty thirteen watching a lot of greats like Calvin Anderson, Griffin Bencher, Ankush Mandavia, Simon Charette, some really, really great players who showed me a lot.
But I said, you know, I'm gonna sit on the sidelines because I can't handle the pressure of the multi table and the MTT lifestyle.
Because I saw how many hours it took.
I said, I gotta be getting in shape, gotta be eating good, I gotta be relaxing so I can deal with these pressures.
So I kind of learned by osmosis, watched by a distance, and I picked up a lot.
And then after that summer, I said, okay, now I'm gonna start playing more, but still focusing on the physical stuff.
And I played a ton.
And then by the end of twenty fourteen, I said, okay, I think I've played enough.
Now I can focus on kind of sharing what I've learned with other people so that, again, I can build a great team.
Because if I'm a great player, and I'm thinking like a great player, I'm helping bring up other people and doing good things, good people are going to be attracted to me.
And therefore, I will end up in the company of A, the people I want to be around, and B, the people that I need to be around who can bring me to the level that I really, really want to be at.
Because I don't want to just be someone who knows how to play the game well.
I want to be someone who can execute and fire on all cylinders at any time.
So it was a steady process of prioritizing, learning, and then actually doing what I learned.
And then repeating, repeating, repeating.
And now I'm finally at a point where like, I feel like I have most of my ducks in order to the point that I deserve to be able to make that final table.
But I also feel like next year is gonna be even better.
Because we have like a personal trainer mindset master living at the house.
We have a nutritionist at the house.
So after spending six weeks with them, I'm gonna have all these additional dimensions to add to my game that I have another like ten months to work on before the next World Series.
So it's just a process of, you know, every year, every week, every month getting a little bit better, stepping back, reflecting what needs to stay, what needs to go, what do we need to add in.
Okay, this is the new routine.
This is what I'm going do for the next thirty days.
And then reflect and review.
Like this year was the first year I actually started journaling and writing down a summary of what happened every day.
So that I could look back and be like, oh, Okay, that was good.
That's why I felt this way, this and that.
And I took my reflection to another level.
I would also say the biggest change I had was in 2013, after that kind of first year of living in a little bit of craziness.
I got to Vegas, I was staying with Griffin, I'm like, you know, this is too much.
I can't handle this.
And I sought out a meditation teacher in California.
And I went and I spent three days with him.
I said, I'm gonna skip some events.
I'll stay three days with him.
Learn how to meditate properly.
And then I brought that back to Vegas and made that a daily practice.
And once that was in place, daily meditation in the morning and the evening, suddenly everything else became so much easier because it was so clear what was important to do each day.
Because I actually took the time to dial in and feel what was going on on the inside rather than just jumping out of the bed, turning on the computer, and being connected to other people's reality with them kind of throwing at me what I should be doing for the rest of my day and basically just running around trying to take care of other people's needs all day.
Or things that my mind or my ego wants, but deep down aren't really what my soul or my body needs.
So that's where meditation kind of was the huge game changer.
And I just continue to add more and more dimensions.
But the thing that I think is so clear is the level of intention that you put behind everything that you do.
And I don't think we've heard this level of attention to intention from anybody else that we've interviewed at least so far.
How do you think that level of intentionality plays in with like the law of attraction and that sort of thing?
Well, that's how I got started on the whole thing.
My chiropractor actually, or our chiropractor, the guy who was working with me and Greggy to really get us in peak shape because he helped us to unwind.
I forgot to mention that.
Getting assistance from a true professional to do bodywork can really help to recover from the long session, kind of the overwork we put on our body.
But he introduced me to an audio program by Kevin Trudeau, it was called Your Wish Is Your Command, The Law of Attraction.
I'm like, wow, this sounds like such a scam.
So I played the tapes and I listened to them.
And I said, you know what, Doctor.
Gregg, you got some pretty good scam tapes, man.
Sounds like a total scam, but I'm going to follow it.
And that's when I started.
Was like, okay, win the main event, win the main event, win the main event.
I started thinking that every day in April 2012.
And let's see, May, June, July.
Three months later, my roommate had made the final table.
And then let's see, August, September, October.
Eight months later, my roommate won the main event and I had a piece of the main event winner.
So I'm like, wow, this stuff works pretty quickly.
I just thought win the main event.
And it was so funny because Greg would be like, dude, you're not just going to win the main event by just thinking that you're going to win the main event all the time.
It doesn't work like that.
I'm like, Well, I'm just going to keep doing it and see what happens.
Then finally on day three, he's like, Yo, Evan, yo, Evan, like, I got bad news for you, man.
I'm like, What's up?
He's like, I'm going to win.
I was like, No, Greg, you're like, I want to win the main.
He's like, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But like, I know you've been thinking it, but I've been thinking it too and I've also been doing all the other stuff.
So like, I'm gonna win this year and you can have a piece and then like, you can get another year.
I was like, Ah, I guess I can settle with that.
And then since that, I've looked into other audio programs like Tony Robbins has some fantastic stuff.
And then I started finding other people who were teaching the message.
I found some people on YouTube like Eric Thomas, amazing motivator.
Then I was lucky enough to find Elliot Hulse who was going down kind of the spiritual path.
And I found all these people who were kind of incorporating the secret into their attitude had so many other great insights to share.
So like the program said, if you think about something all the time, you're going to find yourself around people who think a similar thing.
And although I thought win the main event, win the main event, win the main event, what I was really thinking was success, success, success.
And then shortly thereafter, I found myself in the company of people who also thought success, success, success.
And then, well, we know what happens from there.
Then everyone helps build each other up.
Suddenly, you're around the people you want to be around.
So the people go like, how do I find myself around these people all the time?
And it just kept getting better and better from there.
So I think the law of attraction is a real thing.
I think if you put something in the forefront of your mind, what's gonna happen is your reticular activation system is gonna look for things that are gonna help you get that outcome that you're looking for.
So like if you're thinking about trying to win a tournament, suddenly when you meet someone who's good at tournaments, you might be like, hey, I should probably spend some time with this person instead of maybe brushing them off as you would previously when your focus was I just want to go to
the bar and pick up
chicks and I don't care about how I'm doing in like my poker career.
Cause in that case, you'd want to go hang out with the people who are good with the pickup and with the social stuff.
So as soon as you kind of set, mind, this is what's important, it's going be like, okay, I get it.
And I'm going to help trying to make this thing happen.
I mean, it's just an amazing story, isn't it?
Seeing how things have progressed over those few years and just how much change you've managed to make.
Now, you're also running a Team Gripsed.
If you could talk to us about your beliefs behind that and strategies.
How are trying to help poker players?
是的。
Yeah.
Team Gripsed
So Team Gripsed is my team.
Gripsed
Gripsed was originally just a website that was it was an affiliate site.
At first, we were going to sign people up to play poker.
And I said, You know what?
I don't wanna just sell people the same crap that everyone's selling.
So I'm gonna add some value.
Like, okay, I'm gonna teach them.
So my first videos were all about giving them the strategy and the tools that they needed to be able to be successful.
And in my young career, I thought the only thing that was important was the strategy.
So there was a lot of theory, a lot of beginner stuff that would teach them the skills to be competitive.
But the more I got to be around great players and see, despite their greatness, where their hindrances were, where their obstacles were that maybe they weren't dealing with, but were clearly there and were clearly holding them back, I'm like, oh, this is something that would be important.
That's something that would be important.
And then my teaching kind of transformed from being purely strategic in terms of poker stuff to really being about mental game, peak performance, keeping your happiness up, keeping motivation up so that they'll be excited to work on their game, excited to get those results.
And what it's become is a huge support system.
Everyone who's on the team, we really feel like we're in it together.
We're a team.
We support each other.
We're railing each other.
We're supporting each other on social media or live if possible.
I actually think it's weird.
I would rather watch my friend win a huge event than win it myself probably because I just love seeing the ecstasy that people get when they achieve a big life goal.
And from seeing the pitfalls firsthand, from being a professional for ten years and being around all these people who were pros for ten plus years and seeing the problems that arise, I am like, okay, I can share information that is going to enable the next generation to not fall into these same traps, to avoid these scenarios.
So I can hopefully teach them the lessons from me so that they don't have to learn them firsthand.
At the end of the day, a lot of people will just have to get that firsthand experience because that's just what's required for us to really get the lesson.
But I want to give them the greatest shortcuts possible.
And I just think, what is the resource that I wish would have existed when I found out about Nollum and Texas Hold'em ten years ago.
And that's what I'm always trying to build with Gripsed.
And every time I find out something else that's new or that could be beneficial, I just throw it in there.
Because at this point, I can teach anything that I believe in or that I think has benefits since I'm kind of the captain of the team.
And that's what I do.
I'm out there researching, trying to find things that will help them and then just passing it on in an easy to understand, easy to digest tidbit of information.
So can you share with our listeners where they can find out more about you and your products and services and ideas?
Oh, yeah, definitely.

Excellent.
Thank you so much for coming on.
As I say, it's your personification of what we've been describing for the last ten weeks on the show.
So it's really great to hear someone just describe it in such perfect detail and really living this sort of lifestyle and then spreading it to the industry.
We really appreciate that.
Yeah, it's been a real pleasure.
I appreciate you guys having me on, and I just hope that we'll get some of these stories out there on all the different outlets this summer so everyone can see firsthand what it really looks like.
And actually, my biggest hope is that come November, the entire ESPN audience can be like, Oh, that's how you gotta do it too.
And you heard
it here first.
So everyone, you know what to do now.
没错。
That's right.
We've given you the step by step recipe.
And then after that, all you guys got to do is just take what you learned, go out there and get Stackin'.
完美。
Perfect.
Okay, Well, as I say, thank you so much for coming on the show.
And we hopefully, well, we'll definitely see you in Las Vegas.
So that was great to hear from Evan.
He covered a lot of the things that we talk about quite frequently, didn't he Trisha?
He sure did.
And you know what I found the most compelling was how he talked about developing winning habits.
是的
Yeah.
I mean, and you could certainly hear that in the way that he's designed his training for the World Series of Poker.
Everything was about the habit, about these good things being done every day, every day trying to be better than you were the day before and that's really important.
Mean he truly is treating poker as if it is a professional sport rather than treating it as a recreational activity.
You know what was so interesting too is that he's designed his whole life around it.
It's not just something that he does some of the time, it's these things that he does day in and day out.
Yeah, and I think it's quite interesting because although he's designed his life around poker, he's designed his life with balance.
So he's actually got a really balanced life although poker is sort of the key part of it.
Yeah and I'll tell you what, his talking about setting the intention for what you want and how that just sets it up in your mind and you know helps you maybe see opportunities or things that you wouldn't have otherwise noticed.
I found that to be really spot on.
Yeah, mean there's a lot of people talk about the positive mentality from that way.
Obviously we're not saying it will be guaranteed that you'll have that success, you'll get exactly what you want if you think about it.
But your chances of reaching it, if you're open to moving towards what you really want in life and accepting any of these opportunities, it's far more likely you're to reach your goals.
At one time I wrote an article about this and I talked about the law of attraction and basically what I said is, it's not really the law of attraction, it's the law of action.
So you basically set the intention but then it's all the things you're going to do to make that happen.
Because he can think like I'm gonna win the main event, I'm gonna win the main event.
But if he didn't do all those other things, you know, the exercise, the study, you know, all that, it wouldn't happen.
Yeah, it just makes it real enough to be worthwhile doing all of the work.
But certainly, you know, really interesting talking to him today and hearing how people are preparing.
And again, as we've said before, if you are coming out to the World Series, really think about what some of the other guys are doing and question whether you're putting in the same amount of effort.
It really is worth working hard, especially if you're gonna be putting that $10,000 in for the main event buy in.
Absolutely.

Excellent.
