So Tricia, tell all the audience about yourself.

And my name is Elliot Rowe, I'm a mindset coach and I work with poker players and UFC fighters.
So Tricia, what news do you have for us this week?
Well, a recent piece of research just came out and it has to do with being in control.
And you know how oftentimes at the poker table, we wanna be in control of everything and create our own destiny, but sometimes that just doesn't happen and things don't go our way.
Well, some new research has found that accepting and adapting to circumstances that can't be changed is actually linked to fewer negative emotions.
And that's actually something called secondary control.
Because when we are in control and creating our destiny, that's a form of primary control.
And I know this sounds like really common sensical, like of course, if I accept what I can't change it's going to help me be happier, more positive or whatever.
But an actual study was done where they looked at 500 people and they did find that if you strictly try to power through and control, control, control, that is linked to negative emotions.
So it's important to learn, don't fight things that you can't change.
That's worse than just accepting the reality.
对。
Yeah.
I mean, great advice there on the table.
We cannot change the cards we're dealt.
We can change the way we play them.
没错。
Exactly.
没错。
Exactly.
Excellent advice for you guys there at the World Series at the moment.
And this week, we've got Daryl Jace coming on, a very successful player.
He's been on the the final table of the Sunday Million multiple times.
He's won a couple of times.
And he's coming on to talk about study and his thoughts on how you can improve your study and improve your poker game.
So let's give Daryl a call.
So hi, Daryl.
Thanks for coming on the show.
If you could introduce yourself to our listeners.
是的。
Yeah.
I'm a professional poker player for, like, half of my life so far.
Been doing coaching, like, the other three, four years.
Won a bunch of the majors, Sunday Million 2 or three times.
Final Table did another two or three times.
Fifth in WCOOP main.
Won the FTOPS main.
Have over a million profit.
I don't know.
Pretty high ROI over the past, however, many years.
So one of the interesting things about you was how you found poker and the sort of age that you started poker.
And could you talk us through that?
是的。
Yeah.
Well, going to the first part, it was, like, playing card games with my granddad, and we had this what's the thing called where you put change in it?
Jesus.
A change jar?
对。
Yeah.
Change jar, but it was shaped like a bottle.
I guess it was for, like, one of the babies or something, and we just empty it out.
And it's this huge, like, bottle thing.
We just empty it out, and we'd play card games, you know, all the different ones because this was a long time ago.
You know, Holden wasn't even popular back then.
And I just remember my granddad used to just win all the time versus me and my two cousins.
I used to just think he was the greatest at it.
And just funny, like, because it turns out when he's older, plays, like, maybe 50 VPIP, 10% PFR, and he's just really terrible.
So that was my initial start.
And then sometime not too long after that, I dropped out of school.
And for some reason or another well, probably, you know, WSOP, WPT was on, and I got really into poker.
I mean, there were so many interesting characters back then.
It was really hard not to, you know.
Phil Hellmuth, Negranu, Gus Hansen was like the coolest back then and all those guys.
Got really into poker.
And for some reason, I just wanted to read every single book that I could and get better at it.
And which was kind of interesting because I really hated school back then, so I'm not sure why I thought reading a bunch of books on it would be good.
But I just did.
I had, you know, this huge stack of books, started playing cash games and free rolls.
Free rolls back in the day were really cool because you can win a free roll for, like, few $100 on multiple sites.
So just grinded the shit out of free rolls, played cash games, and won the Sunday Million for, like, 90 k at one point, and rest is kind of history.
But I think it's so interesting that you were doing a lot of cash, but now you consider yourself an MTT specialist.
How did you, you know, decide that was going to be the path for you?
Well, I think winning 90,000 in one tournament was kind of a big turnaround.
You know, I'm sitting there grinding a few 100.
You know, I made 2,000 playing cash games.
I'm like, oh, that's nice.
You know, I grinded for a month.
And then one day, played the Sunday Million with 90 k.
So it was an easy decision.
Is it one that you would advise for poker players generally?
I think it depends.
I mean, I feel like a lot of people like tournaments more just because there's an ending you could win.
There's, you know, glory at the end, and they find cash games a bit boring and monotonous.
So I think it depends on what you enjoy better.
If you feel like cash games are just way more stable and consistent in comp, so I would generally choose that unless you just find it really boring, basically.
I think you have a much higher chance of being able to play against recreational players in your tables and MTTs, don't you?
对。
Yeah.
Compared to the cash games.
Because a lot of the cash game guys I talk to, there might be one recreational player per table, maybe two.
Whereas obviously throughout an MTT, you might consistently be on tables where there's only one or two regs.
Yeah, absolutely.
MTT as well, it was kind of easy, always retracts more recs, like you're saying.
对。
Yeah.
And then from the coaching side, how did you transition to become a coach?
Was it difficult for you to start sharing your knowledge with people?
Or was that something you actually enjoy and looking forward to doing?
I don't know.
I guess I've always just been naturally open.
I remember I started videos for Poker Axe Factor a long time ago, and a lot of people were talking about holding back info on bids.
And I don't know.
That just never seemed right to me.
You know?
If I was gonna do it, I wanted to be the best at it.
Just kind of, like, common thing in my life.
So I just couldn't see holding back and making videos less than my best.
I feel like there's so many questions we could ask you around the coaching, but I want to start with, I heard you say on another interview that a good coach makes their students think better.
Can you talk about, you know, how you set up your coaching sessions to help your students think better?
好的。
Okay.
是的。
Yeah.
I think first I should perhaps explain what I mean by think better really quick.
明白。
Okay.
There's a ton of ways.
I'll make it really short, this is really incomplete.
But a big thing, a big simple thing that people do wrong is I coach a lot of people.
And if I coach someone who's introverted and kind of like on the negative side or no conservative, they always the way they think is they have this bias towards negativity.
So they'll analyze a hand, and they'll just think about the negative things that could happen.
And they'll just conversely, they just play too tight.
And then you get the guys, I guess it's called a type personality alpha types, the really, you know, extroverted type guys, and just like, oh, I'm just gonna, like, three bet here and barrel and bet, and this guy's gonna fold here.
And if he doesn't fold here, I'll get there and stack him or, you know, whatever.
And conversely, there's play to agro.
So that's like a kind of simple example of, I mean, just pointing out the bias to them.
You can show them like data based on that.
So I have sessions with people.
And now this is a week ago, this guy says, I don't like bluffing the river they always call.
So I'm like, okay.
Prove it to me.
So we go through Holdo Manager.
Let's look at every spot you bluff the river and see how often they fold.
And, you know, the results come back.
Oh, they fold 60% of the time.
And guess what?
90% of the time when you bet the river, have value.
So so, you know, very kind of just in your face, no way to kind of disprove that.
Then there's just recommending stuff like meditation, stoicism, and learning about that whole practice to become more objective, self reflection, and stuff like that.
I mean, I'm not a pro at dealing with this type of stuff.
I think Elliot would have some better answers for dealing with those biases than I do.
是的。
Yeah.
It's quite interesting because obviously I talk to people about it in a more general term.
So they come to me for a specific mindset issue and then those themes will sometimes show up.
I mean, certainly the negativity comes up quite a bit.
But it must be quite quite interesting when you actually show them the maths and you show them what's actually happening in their game and that they've got a complete they're they're viewing reality in a different way.
What sort of reactions are you getting when you show people that information?
They're definitely just pretty surprised.
A lot of people don't correlate their behavior in life with how they play at the table, so that's pretty surprising to them.
Know, I I think I did a session with someone a few days ago, and I said, well, I bet you're probably pretty introverted and conservative in life just based upon, like you know, because I I see he has a negativity bias.
And, you know, I pointed out that he probably lives his life that way as well, and he was pretty shocked that the transfer's over.
You know?
I don't think people realize that enough.
I guess people don't reflect enough and think about that stuff enough?
是的。
Yeah.
I mean, it's literally the bulk of my work is literally that trying to help people understand that things from outside of poker are impacting your poker, your personality traits, things that have affected you in the past.
Those things are why you're tilted by the three bears, why you get anxious as you approach the final table.
It's outside life issues coming into your game and then your game's just amplifying and then reflecting that personality trait.
Yeah, I tell people if you approach the game just completely without bias I mean, the reason why people don't get good is you know, if they if there's people who play tens of thousands of hours who've been playing for eight years, they're not that good.
You know?
And the reason is, I think, is not because they're stupid.
It's just they're not objective.
They don't learn from the information they're getting at the tables.
They don't learn properly.
They just see what they wanna see.
And I use this analogy.
Have you heard of the bot that plays perfect heads up, limit, hold them?
是的
Yeah.
对
Yes.
It started off from square one, not knowing anything about poker.
It just played itself one on one and observed what worked and what didn't work.
And it did this completely objectively because it's a computer robot, you know, no emotion.
And it was just able to perfectly learn from the information that it gleaned.
I mean, obviously, we can't do that.
But the more objective we could be, the more we could learn while we play, the more we could learn while we study.
Because even while you study, people are looking for the answers that they want and discarding the answers that they don't want sometimes, you know, or if they get one bit of information, they kind of just move on or whatever.
Can you go into a little bit more depth on how to study and how often to study and all those sorts of, you know, ideas you have?
对。
Yeah.
So I think school kind of school, college, and I don't know, all of the mainstream kind of has this idea about study.
And, like, consequently, a lot of booger players have this idea that if you're not going through a hand history review, or if you're not watching a video, you aren't really studying.
Like those are the only ways to study.
Pull up a tournament, go through the hands, or watch video.
And actually, the ways to study, I think, are actually infinite.
And they should be entirely based upon your unique interests and your unique abilities.
If you watch coaching sessions with me, I can coach two people on the same exact topic and completely different ways just based upon their personality, what they like, what they don't like, what interests them.
And we kind of come to similar conclusions.
Like, I mean, take Phil Ivey and I Ike Haxton, who I think you've had on this podcast.
Two very different personality types, but they're both elite top players.
They think about the game, I assume, very differently than each other.
I mean, I don't know either of them personally, but I bet good money on that.
So there's more than one path to success.
There's more than one path to the top.
And you can gain a really deep understanding, whether it be intuitively, mathematically, logically, even introspectively, if you become really good at being meditative and reflective and objective and stoic while playing, you know, if you master that, that's going lead to huge results, in my opinion.
Just like if you master GTO, that's going lead to huge results.
Or if you master intuitive, field based game, or if you master using the HUD, you know, become the best at that, that's going to lead to huge results.
So it's really just finding your niche or niches.
I mean, for me, it's everything.
I like the whole holistic approach.
But finding your niche or niches and using those to your advantage, not trying to copy someone else necessarily, unless you just really want to, but not I talked to a lot of people who just, you know, they see straight cash only videos, and he's super mathy and talks GTO, and they're just not that type at all.
But, you know, they say, oh, he makes money.
I wanna play like him.
But that's just not really their interest.
It's not what they're good at.
And consequently, it just becomes really boring and they kinda fail.
I actually think, there's a good body of research that supports exactly what you're saying.
And I think poker players in general underestimate the importance of finding your niche as it relates to, you know, becoming really successful.
对。
Yeah.
People don't analyze their study sessions at all.
Like, I mean, compared to the way they analyze their MTT sessions, nobody really analyzes their study sessions.
You know what?
What did I like about that study session?
What didn't I like?
Was that too hard?
Was it too easy?
Did I feel like I was getting somewhere?
You know, there's endless lists of questions.
I think that stuff's really important.
Learning how to study effectively is huge for the game.
And is it something where you have a recommendation of hours per week for a professional?
Or again, is this just case by case basis?
Some people can get away with the three hours, other people are going to be doing fifteen hours a week.
Like, how do you recommend to one of your students?
What would be an amount of work you think is sort of acceptable for a professional?
I think this question's really interesting
because if you look at all different sports, they have such different play to study ratios.
对
Mhmm.
So for example, MMA is like months and months of training for fifteen minutes.
You know?
Football is you study four to five days.
You practice four to five days, and you play one day a week.
You know?
Basketball is somewhere you know?
I don't know.
I guess you play three, four days a week.
Baseball is, like, five, six days a week.
And, mean, I assume they have to study just way less.
You know?
And I think the reason for those differences is that, you know, if you wanted to fight MMA five days a week, you know, it's just not physically possible.
是的。
Yeah.
Same with football.
So I think there's this mental limit on mental capacity for these sports.
And I think the same kind of holds true for poker just on a mental level.
I think it really depends on your level of mental fitness.
So I think that's why it's a personal thing and varies.
So so would you sort of say that the high stakes heads up games are something where, obviously, that's gonna be a lot tougher on you than perhaps playing the the software MTT fields.
MTT players may be able to get away with less study than somebody who's high stakes heads up.
That's a really good point.
Also, I think the level of competition is a pretty good factor.
So for example, if you're playing soft MTTs, the level of competition isn't that high.
If you're playing high stakes, heads up Synagogue's level of competition is really high.
So when you're standing still in soft MTTs, like, you're not learning anything, you know, standing at neutral, you're not really losing any ground.
Everyone most people don't really try anyways.
If you're standing still for a week playing heads up sit and go's, you've lost some ground.
You know?
Everyone's getting better all the time and pounding in the volume and learning.
Ironically, I
think this might be causing a problem for some MTT players.
Then you don't realize that although they're not losing ground, so it doesn't damage them financially, if no one else is putting in the hard work and you're the person who does, it allows you to gain ground much better in a softer field.
Whereas, you know, you're whereas you're forced to do it in heads up sit and goes, you're not forced to do it in MTTs, but that means potentially it could have even more value for you to get the coaching, to do the study, etcetera.
Yeah, that's a really good point.
I think there's other variables as well, you know, how much you know, of how big of a winner you are.
If you're if you're a losing player, then playing is actually costing you money, you know, and studying theoretically makes you money.
So you should partake in a lot more studying than playing.
But if you're a big winner in a noncompetitive field, you know, if I'm a big winner and I'm just playing small to mistakes MTTs for some reason, and, you know, I may I lose a lot of money not putting in that volume.
This is finding the balance for the individual.
对。
Yeah.
And it's how much you need the money as well, I think, important.
So a lot of different factors and variables.
But to give a more concrete answer, I would say that three hours a week is just nowhere near enough, I would say.
是的。
Yeah.
I think people play way too much.
I think people study way too little.
And I think people need to actually coach way more.
I don't know.
I think I feel like one hour a day has to be the minimum, like seven hours a week.
I just can't imagine being a professional and doing less than that and wanting to stay current, still be good.
And perhaps people don't realize this is there's a huge link between study and playing your A game.
Because I've had periods where I mean, I'd study basically ten hours a week because I was coaching all the time.
So I had all these different ideas to work on.
So I'm studying with all these different players and thinking about the game in all these different ways.
So every time I played, I was super excited to play.
I had all these ideas to try out, and I wasn't autopilot in any sense of the word.
Every, you know, every spot, I had different ideas to work on.
Recently, the past two, three months, just due to personal stuff, I've been coaching two, three hours a week, not putting in any study by myself.
And now when I play, I don't have really anything to think about.
And I just sit there really bored.
I go on Twitter.
I go on Facebook, YouTube.
I get really frustrated more easily.
You know?
And, consequently, I'm on I was on, like, a one month downswing or six week downswing, which is
And also the naughty step for doing all of those things, Daryl.
That's not allowed.
No Twitter, no YouTube while you're playing.
对。
Yeah.
It's terrible.
But isn't it interesting when your mind is unfocused, it seeks out things to fill up that void.
So it automatically goes to the Twitter or the YouTube or whatever.
是的。
Yeah.
That definitely happens.
So if you wanna play your a game, I think you have to study a lot, basically.
I feel like ten hours a week is probably good for most people.
And I think playing five, six days a week, seven days a week isn't optimal for a lot of people either.
是的。
Yeah.
I mean, that's I usually recommend ten hours a week of study.
And I mean, MTTs, potentially even, you know, some people find four days a week the most profitable for MTTs because they play four really good days and then do a lot of study and that can actually make more money than playing the six or seven days where the burnout starts happening and the study stops and the game deteriorates.
Yeah, as as like a very extreme example, I know the past two years, I've been just more interested in coaching and learning about coaching and everything surrounding that.
So I played only one day a week, for example, and I studied ten hours a week.
So my play to study ratio is like one to one.
And I had I won about 50% of my sessions for the past two years or so, and I had about a 100% ROI as a result.
And I've never been a consistent player before.
I've always just been lose six figures when when six figures lose six figures when six figures to a player.
是的。
Yeah.
I've just had huge results.
I don't recommend the one day a week for most people.
Just doesn't work.
But yeah.
It was just an interesting example of how high your ROI could be.
What what are your thoughts on you know, right now, the World Series of Poker is going on, and everybody's, you know, here in Vegas.
And there's two schools of thought.
And Elliot and I believe that, you know, you take some rest breaks and keep yourself sharp and fit and all this.
And then other people believe come out here and go balls to the wall and just play, you know, everything every day.
Do you have thoughts on that?
I mean, my style is always towards your your end.
I think it's an interesting debate because the World Series only comes around so often and there's so many good events and it's fun, But, you know, obviously, burning out really sucks.
I think it really depends on what's sustainable.
Some people can play a lot and not burn out for a while.
Some people burn out pretty easily, especially if they run bad.
I think it depends on your mental toughness and fitness and your kind of love for the game.
That's my non I I I don't know.
I just don't know the answer to a lot of questions.
I just I kind of understand how they work, but don't have the answers.
I I don't think anyone truly does.
We're we're all sort of making best guesses.
But, yeah, I mean, I think we sort of see it that you're much better off playing fewer tournaments better with a higher return on investment than all of the tournaments, but then seeing a deterioration in your game, your mental state and even your physical fitness over the series because you can't be getting in the same amount of exercise and rest if you're playing those super long sessions every day at the Rio, getting to bed at a silly o'clock every morning after playing sessions just because it's just not physically possible.
Yeah, I'll say absolutely, I think people just play way too much and burn themselves out way too quickly.
Most people just don't have sustainable strategies online or live.
And are you seeing the zombies there yet, Trisha?
No.
Because you've been at the Rio as as it started.
I know we've we're only sort of two and a half weeks since it's usually about week three that the zombies come out.
But what are you seeing?
There's definitely some zombies, definitely a lot of tilt.
You just see the gamut of human emotions while you're out here and the longer it goes on, the more dramatic emotional responses you see.
It's good stuff.
Yeah, it's
funny just watching the really exciting tweets, you know, World Series is starting, let's go.
And then two weeks in, it's just, fuck this.
I hate I hate the dealers.
I hate the World Series.
Why are they doing this to me?
是的。
Yeah.
So ever this is definitely more negativity coming out on Twitter now a few weeks in.
And, again, I think a lot of this comes down to really, really terrible time management and people just getting overexcited, kid in a candy shop and just trying to play everything every day, you know, busting out of a tournament, deciding cash is the best idea in the world, playing that till 5AM, and then rinse and repeat three weeks, Three weeks ago,
People you like to think they're robots and treat themselves like that.
I think also poker players suffer from FOMO, which is the fear of missing out to a great degree.
And so it's like, if I'm not there, you know, what am I missing out on?
So I have to be there all the time.
Yeah, like I could have won that tournament.
Right, exactly.
Yeah, I mean, I literally have been talking to a client about this this week.
He's sort of saying, Yeah, but I just don't like giving up a good spot.
And I'm like, Well, every day in Rio, twenty four hours a day there's a good spot you can find.
It is not possible.
The problem is you become a worse player in that spot.
The spot always will look attractive to you.
You'll never believe that you're super tired, but you just have to set rules and stick to them.
Actually, I think I should go back to studying more because I I don't studying, like, differently, different ways to study, because I don't think I touched on that at all, really.
So there's I could talk about specific ways you can kinda study the game differently, which I think people find interesting.
好的。
Okay,
awesome.
So, you know, there's the hand history view, there's the video, but people don't view talking to people about poker, just having random conversations with no hand history up, you know, even if they're worse than you.
Well, that's I talked to a guy who says he never studies, and he said, then he's just like, I just talked to people about poker.
He said, Well, that's exactly what studying is.
Same exact thing.
There's people who learn more by repetition, just basically everybody, like actual doing, you know, playing heads up is a really cool way to study.
If you're tricky and smart, and have one or better yet, two or three friends, you can simulate any spot you want to work on.
You know, you could talk about that spot, you know, how you want to work on it, actually put it into practice, implement it, and then talk about it more.
You know, what, you know, what went wrong here, what went right.
Let's talk about this hand, let's talk about that hand, and then just keep repeating, you know, the same way you can do in golf, for example, that immediate feedback.
You know, if you're playing golf, you know, your coach, he watches your swing.
Well, alright.
Go try this tweak.
And then right away, he gets to try.
And then he gets to see the results, feedback, and then tweak again, put into practice, tweak again, put into practice.
It's another good way to do it.
Another thing is if you're an intuitive guy, you can watch people play and try and guess what they have and what they're doing here and why they're doing it.
For example.
You know, a cool way to work on three bet spots is think about, you know, is this three bet gonna work here?
You know, pull up tables, you know, is this three bet gonna work here?
Or we can just talk about we can go straight into strategy and talk about three bet spots by looking at, know, what are the best hands to three bet?
What hands work better at different stacked ups at this stage of what what stages of the tournaments are three bets more effective?
What players are the types three bet?
We can go into HUD stats.
You know, what HUD stats can we use to glean the best three bet spots, you know, really deep into HUD stats by, know, positional opening, stack size, whatever.
Or you can go just game flow based and watch the game flow and look at it like that.
There's the data type of way.
If you have a big enough sample to hold a manager, you can look through three bet spots and gain data like that, you know, hard kind of evidence type of way.
And then there's infinite other ways to do it.
And I think if everyone's working on three bet spots, they kind of just do it the same way.
There's the GTO way as well.
You know, if you want to construct GTO three bet ranges, you can do stuff like that.
I mean, that's just one topic.
I bring up seven different ways and there's probably a 100 other ways or maybe infinite, depending how nitpicky you wanna be on the subtleties there.
And I think that's really how a lot of guys will say, oh, I hate studying.
It's boring.
No one would find all of those different ways boring.
是的
Yeah.
I mean, there's something for everybody there and you can do that for every subject basically.
And it's really just finding what works best for my students, what works best for you.
You're only limited by your creativity when it comes to studying.
没错
Yes.
Exactly.
I mean, there's even like the introspective route.
Like, Rowe talks just about, you know, the mindset behind three betting and being scared about it or, you know, being too confident in it.
And that helps your three betting as well, so you're more objective.
You know?
You could read Stoicism, the great Seneca.
I hope you're three betting.
Ironically, it could help your three betting an awful lot doing that.
It might be better than going through your hand histories.
是的。
Yeah.
I mean, it opens up so much.
If people were just more aware of what studying really is, you know, how much it can change their game, and the fact it doesn't have to be the same day in, day out, you can make it more interesting and make it a fun process.
对。
Yeah.
I think another key is just looking for depth rather than breath.
You know, everyone I hear people just bragging to me about, oh, I want you know, subtly bragging.
You know, I went through a whole tournament dentistry today in one hour or something.
You know?
That's that's not good.
Now if you're if you're doing a hannistery review with me, we're getting between we're gonna finish between one and twenty hands.
May I think I've done 30 once, you know, in an hour.
That's all we're getting through.
对。
Yeah.
There's just so many things to look at, consider, evaluate, and think about in any given hand that a lot of people I feel like just gloss over.
Yeah.
That that breaks down to the different kinds of questions either.
You know, you can can study, we could do a hand history review, but we could also break it down by your personality as well, or your unique abilities.
So we could ask GTO type questions, you know, what, you know, how often, you know, what, how often will your three bet range how often is that folding to a four bet?
You know, is this this balance?
What can he what can your opponent do versus you?
Who's showing you is there a way to tweak your range so he makes less profit here?
There's the intuitive game flow questions you could ask, you know, what's he going to think about this three bet?
What would you think about this sizing or that sizing?
There's fundamental questions like, what's the optimal size at this stacked up?
What's the optimal size at that stack depth in this position, that position?
There's post hoc questions like, what would your opponent think if you did this?
And how can you exploit that?
What would you think if you did that?
And how would you exploit that?
There's questions like future streets.
If you like thinking about it like that, you know, what how's this turn gonna play?
How's this river gonna play if you do x, if you do y?
I mean, there's just countless things.
It's hard to think about all of them on the spot, but there's countless questions.
Well, if you want to talk to Daryl about it more, they'll have to pay for you.
So they because we've come to the end of our interview.
So any more information from Daryl.
How are they gonna find out how to, hear about your coaching?
Where can they find you?
Jacepokercoaching.com,拼写是 J A C E。
Jacepokercoaching.com, J A C E.
And I guess that's it, basically.
是的。
Yeah.
好的。
Okay.
And are you on Twitter and things?
对。
Yeah.
I'm fkscreenname.
Fuck is just FK.
Okay.
Excellent.
I mean, you so much for coming on today and talking about the study.
It's definitely something people aren't thinking about enough.
And I think a lot of the guys listening will have come up with a lot of questions in what they're doing with their own studying.
And also, this seven hours a week is an absolute minimum, ten hours the optimal.
Guys, everyone listening to this, this is the reality of being a professional poker player.
If you're doing one or two hour study a week, you're not doing yourself a service.
Absolutely.
Alright guys, thanks.
Really Hey, enjoyed
thank you very much for coming on.
We'll talk to you soon.
Yep, see you.
So that was great to talk to Daryl.
So what did you think of his thoughts, Trisha?
Well, I really picked up so many interesting things.
I mean, and foremost, how he pointed out finding your niche is so important and being able to use whatever gifts, talents and abilities you have to you know, forge your way through poker was something I don't think is talked about all that much.
对。
Yeah.
I think there are a lot of guys who, obviously, there's all the GTO stuff at the moment.
It's wonderful if you you have a very mathematical mind and those things come naturally to you, But there are some guys who will do better certainly in the live game, focusing on the sort of tells and information they can get at the table and being more field players and refocusing on proving that side of their game and focusing on their strengths.
没错。
Exactly.
And the other thing I felt that was really important, of course, was the emphasis on study and how much time it takes and how you should be studying.
And it's so contrary to what I think a lot of poker players think and do.
是的。
Yeah.
I mean, there'll be guys who've worked with me listening to this show who who know how much I I try and get them to hit that ten hours a week of study.
And it's nice to hear someone else reiterate that because there are people out there who are call themselves professional.
I'm a professional player, but I don't study at all.
It's the same as saying, you know, you're a professional basketball player, but you don't believe in going to training.
It's not sustainable in the long term.
It's just treat treat your poker like a professional sport.
Study as an athlete would train and you'll make more money.
没错。
Exactly.
So people, you've got to get out there and do ten hours a week of study week in and week out.
是的。
Yeah.
Try and enjoy it as well.

Do those fun things Daryl was mentioning.
