I am only buying food at an airport in an absolute emergency situation where I'm starving or my flight was delayed or something unexpected happened. But 99.9% of the time, I am going on to a flight, any flight with a bunch of food ready to go. So when we flew from LA to Hawaii, I had a prepacked salad, hard boiled eggs, nuts, apples, venison jerky. I had a protein powder in a shaker bottle, no water, just like the protein powder in the bottle. That's a really easy snack on the go.

Speaker 0

Just fill it up with some water at the airport, shake it up, and then pound that protein. But I had a ton of healthy options that I like to eat that were already in my kitchen, so I didn't have to go buy anything or spend more money. And I just bring them with me to the airport. And each one of my kids also has a snack bag. Hey, guys.

It's Rach. Welcome to the show. I'm so glad that you're here with us today. And I have a favor, which sounds kind of harsh if we just met, but I'm assuming that most of you have been a part of this community for a hot minute. And so I gotta ask, are you subscribed to the podcast?

Subscribing to the podcast you listen to regularly is one of the best things that you can do for hosts like me. It helps to support the show and the staff that works on it. It ensures that you never miss an episode when we drop a new one. And here's the cool thing about subscribing. If you do it and then you hate this show, just unsubscribe.

Speaker 0

It's one click away. In the meantime, if you're listening, we would so appreciate it if you would just tap that button and make it official. Hi, guys. It's Rach. Welcome to another episode of the podcast.

Speaker 0

It's a Friday episode, which means it's something a little lighter, a little funner, and coming to you from Hawaii. I am spending the next couple of months here actually with my kids. So all of our podcasts in the near future are happening from my daughter's room. I am tucked into a corner. I'm staring at a lot of Barbies and some Squishmallows and her clothes all over the floor.

Speaker 0

And it feels right. It feels like working mom vibes. And I know you guys can understand, but because we just traveled from Los Angeles to Hawaii, a trip we've taken many, many times, I was thinking about travel, specifically summer travel and that like me, you guys might have some trips coming up. So I thought today I would share some of my travel essentials, like the things that I always have with me when I am flying. And if you don't know this about me, I would just like to give myself a little bit of street cred for the items I'm going to tell you are essential because I travel so much.

Speaker 0

As part of my work, I have, oh my gosh, I've crisscrossed the country one bajillion times. And I feel like I've got a pretty great system in place and some pretty great hacks for making your travel feel as good as it possibly can. And the good news is this isn't an episode where I'm going to tell you to go out and buy a bunch of new stuff. This is actually just about how you can pack a lot of what you already have to make your trip more comfortable. Let's jump right in.

Speaker 0

These are my essentials, my must haves every single time that I travel. I suppose I should start with a bit of lifestyle information so that you understand why I'm doing what I'm doing. And that begins with this bit of information. Just you can kind of understand how my mind works. If I am on an airplane and I am flying domestically, I am working.

Speaker 0

Period. Full stop. I am working. And I know that's not true for everyone. I know lots of people get on a flight and they are on vacation and they're so excited and they're going to watch movies and read books and do the whole thing.

Speaker 0

But unless it's an international flight, which is like a whole different bag of tricks, I use the time that I am on an airplane to work. And if you own a business or you have a schedule that's like mine, I think you're going to get this and probably maybe have experienced this as well. But an airplane is a phenomenal time to get a ton of work done. At least it is for me. I like the sort of ambiance of the sound of an airplane because it kind of drowns out everything.

Speaker 0

It's like white noise. I like that you're focused. I like that, you know, nobody's bugging you. I like that I don't have to get the airplane WiFi and so I can sort of just be in my own little bubble. And this is equally true when I am flying with my kids.

Speaker 0

So if I'm flying with the kids, all of my kids have flown a ton, but all three of my boys are so self sufficient on a flight, I don't really need to worry about them. But if I'm flying with my kids, my daughter is next to me. She's eight. But even Noah, like I've got a whole system for her. I pack her travel bag as well as I pack my own.

Speaker 0

So as much as I'm helping her or talking to her, whatever, she also has her own system and routine and has flown so much that I can really, you know, knuckle down and like edit the book that I'm working on or create podcast episodes or work on my content calendar or whatever the case may be. I mentioned that because I think probably there are people who would give you a lot of advice for how to pack a bag so that the vacation starts on the plane. But that's not really how my brain works. And I just thought it was worth mentioning. Now let's talk about the actual bag and what's in it.

Speaker 0

My first thing is a great tote. A great tote. Super essential. I have two totes that I go back and forth between. One is brown leather and one is black leather.

Speaker 0

And honestly, whichever tote gets to go on the trip with me is based on season. So I tend to do that brown tote in spring and summer, and I do my black tote in winter. So I just that's what I gravitate to. But I have had the same totes forever. My brown tote is from Noonday collection, and I got it like probably a decade ago.

Speaker 0

It's not the fanciest tote, it's not luxury or designer, but I swear that bag, this is not an ad obviously, but that bag gets better the older it gets. The more beat up it gets, the more the leather becomes like buttery and soft, the more the color changes and it's sort of one color here and a different color on the corner. I love it. I love stuff that's lived in. I love stuff that feels like it's been used.

Speaker 0

It's why I shop vintage so much and go to flea markets and love a goodwill. I like stuff that's like lived in. I think it looks way cooler than when it's brand new. So I've had that tote forever. I also really love that tote because the interior, the lining of the tote is it's blue.

Speaker 0

And this, you know, it's not essential, but I do think it helps. With my black tote, you can't see things at the bottom of it. But with that brown tote, because the lining is a different color than the actual bag, it's really easy to find stuff. So if you're in the market for a tote that you're going to take to travel, I do think if there's a way that you can look for one with the lining is a different color, it's super helpful. My tote is always and forever a collection of smaller bags inside of the big bag because I take so many things with me.

Speaker 0

I have one bag that's like my lotion, my hand sanitizer, like all of my sort of, you know, my tampons, like everything's in that bag. And then I have another one that's like my phone charger, my gum, my pens. Like I love a well organized bag. Nothing's more frustrating than when you're trying to go through TSA and like, oh, it's like a shuffle and you're maybe you're running late for your flight and then you can't figure out like, where's your ticket? Where's your ID?

Speaker 0

I hate that. I like a well organized, well run machine inside of my purse. So all my little bags are just bags I got as freebies. Like, you know how like if you buy makeup or something, every once in while they do a gift with purchase and then you get like a cute little bag or when you buy Kendra Scott jewelry, they give you that like little silky bag. Like I just keep all those bags and then use them to organize my suitcases or my tote.

Speaker 0

So got a big collection of little things in a bunch of different bags. And I know what each bag is and what it's holding. I do think if plastic wasn't so terrible for the earth, having clear bags would be awesome because then you could see what everything is. But like I said, I just use what I've got. Inside of that bag is.

Speaker 0

I'll just start with work essentials because that's just always going to be in there. I always have my laptop. I always have my laptop charger. I always have always, always, always have a notepad and a pen. I never go anywhere without a notepad and a pen.

Speaker 0

I know I could technically like write things in my phone, but I'm a write it down kind of gal. I don't know if you guys are that way, but I really like writing things down. Maybe I want to journal. Maybe I want to do a gratitude practice. Maybe I want to map out something that's in my mind that I'm thinking about for work.

Speaker 0

But I just never leave home without the ability to write something down. That has in the past been Start Today Journal, if you guys have heard me talk about that. I use a Moleskine quite often. I also just will find journals that, you know, like someone gifts it to you or I'll find a random one around the house and I'll just toss that in my bag. So I always have a notepad and a pen.

Speaker 0

I always have my laptop. I always have a book. I like being productive on a plane, I guess I should say. And if I get to the point where I have finished up my quote unquote work, and I don't really want to do any more of that today, I will use that time to read a nonfiction book. So the book that's in my bag will be something that's going to help me in life.

Speaker 0

Maybe it's about wellness or it'll be about how to scale a business or just something that I saw out in the world I thought was fascinating. But I always have a book in my bag. I don't always read it on the plane, but it's one of those things that if you don't bring it, you're bummed and you wish that you did. At least I feel that way. So I always have a book.

Speaker 0

And if I don't have a new book to read, I'll reread some of my favorite non fiction books once a year. I always get something new out of them. I know not everybody does a reread, but I really like it. So I'll just toss in like seven Habits of Highly Effective People or Ask and It is Given or You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. Just like some of my favorites that always have a nugget of wisdom to share.

Speaker 0

I always have AirPods. I if you see me out in the world ever, you will likely see me with AirPods in my ears. If I'm at the grocery store, I've got them. If I'm on a walk, if I'm on a run, obviously going through an airport, I always have them. Part of it is I just love music.

Speaker 0

It absolutely elevates any vibe. It makes me feel better. I just I love sort of giving myself a soundtrack for my life. But I also think truthfully, I can get overwhelmed. I can get sort of sensory overwhelm if an airport is too busy or if it feels too loud.

Speaker 0

I have some PTSD around loud noises and things can really throw me off sound wise. So having the AirPods is always really helpful. I'll even take them. This has nothing to do with travel, but I've taken them to concerts. I've taken them to like Broadway shows, anything where I'm not totally sure what the sound level is going to be.

Speaker 0

I just bring my AirPods and I'll put them on the noise canceling volume level, even without music in them. Just to kind of mute the sound a little bit really helps me. I think in life, we have to aim to set ourselves up for success as often as we can. And if you experience something, whether it's in travel or your commute to work or an interaction with a coworker, just like anything, and it didn't go great, it's worth asking yourself what might have made that experience better. And the next time you go to that same interaction, that same experience, prep in advance so that you are taking care of yourself in the moment.

Speaker 0

So much of travel guys, is about how can you prepare in advance to make this experience as smooth as possible. I understand what it is to go on a trip, whether it's business or vacation and feel anxious or overwhelmed or it sort of, you know, you get flustered. And oftentimes when we get flustered, we take it out on people around us. I didn't really travel until I was an adult. I didn't grow up traveling.

Speaker 0

So when you do something for the first time as an adult, especially something as overwhelming as travel, that can be a lot. But learn from every single experience and figure out how to do better. So if the last time you traveled, like think of this right now, this is a great moment for us to to work on something in real life. Think of the last time you traveled and think of were there any moments inside of that travel experience that really didn't go well? Were there any times where, you know, you got on the flight and you didn't realize that there wouldn't be snacks and you didn't have anything to eat and you were so hungry by the time you got off that plane, you were stressed out, just made the rest of the day sucky.

Speaker 0

Like, think of those moments and then just prep so that you won't experience them again. So let's talk about food because this is a big one for me and it's always in my tote. You can take your food. You can't take liquid, but you can take any food onto a plane with you. I am only buying food at an airport in an absolute emergency situation where I'm starving or my flight was delayed or something unexpected happened.

Speaker 0

But 99.9% of the time I am going on to a flight, any flight with a bunch of food ready to go. So when we flew from L. A. To Hawaii, I had a prepacked salad, hard boiled eggs, nuts, apples, venison jerky. I had a protein powder in a shaker bottle, no water, just like the protein powder in the bottle.

Speaker 0

That's a really easy snack on the go. Just fill it up with some water at the airport, shake it up, and then pound that protein. But I had a ton of healthy options that I like to eat that were already in my kitchen. So I didn't have to go buy anything or spend more money. And I just bring them with me to the airport.

Speaker 0

And each one of my kids also has a snack pack. So like in Noah's little backpack that has her coloring books and her reading books and her markers and her Barbies and her glasses and her iPad and like everything you can imagine. There's also just an entire pouch of healthy snacks. Because one of the areas of tension for me is I do not know what it is, but when this girl gets on a flight, she wants a snack every thirty seconds. Every thirty seconds she's like, I can I have can I have and I think it's just like being on a flight and it's fun?

Speaker 0

And it becomes such a like, no, you you cannot possibly be hungry. Like you just ate a great lunch. You've had almonds. You've had popcorn. Like you're good.

Speaker 0

And she's like, ah, and then it's a whole thing. That used to happen a lot when she was younger. And I finally was just like, okay, could I set myself up in advance and set her up in advance and fill her backpack with things like carrot sticks and apple wedges and everything that I could think of that she could have that I wouldn't feel like it's bad for her. Right? Like, you know, they walk by with like, oh, do you want like the cookies and the little packets or whatever?

Speaker 0

And she's a kid. Like, of course she wants those cookies. But if I can set her up and I'm like, girl, anything in this backpack you can have. It just eliminated immediate tension that had been inside of every fight for us. So all of that to say, I know for some of you, you're like, wait, but eating at the airport and like all of you, though that's part of the fun of travel, fantastic.

Speaker 0

You do you. But for most of us, no, I don't know anybody who doesn't want to feel really good when they get to wherever they're going. And if you're eating stuff at the airport, there's a solid chance it's going to be filled with sugar or sodium or just crap. You're not going to feel like the best version of you. So pack yourself some food, even if you get to the airport and you're like, you know what, I'm going to treat myself to the oat milk cappuccino.

Speaker 0

I'm going to treat myself to, you know, my favorite cookie from this spot. At least that's a treat and not that you're buying your entire meal for a day of travel from the snack bar. So, yeah, I always have snacks. I always have a water bottle. I've told you guys this before, but I love to bring like a big hydro flask and I put a slice of lemon in the bottom of the water bottle because I'm going to fill it up at the airport.

Speaker 0

But I love lemon water. And again, you can take a lemon slice through TSA. You fill it up at the airport and then you've got like delicious lemon water that could be real with like cucumber, mint leaves, anything that you like to infuse your water with. Just add a little bit of that to the bottom of your bottle and take it through empty. And it's delicious.

Speaker 0

Always have a water bottle. Always have snacks. Always have my workbook, my stuff to get my work done. My AirPods. All right.

Speaker 0

Now let's get nitty gritty. Let's open up one of my little zipper pouches and let me walk you through what's in there. This is always in my travel tote, but real talk, this is just always with me. I think every woman, maybe some dudes do, but I don't know a lot of dudes who do this. But every woman I know has a zipper pouch that is always with her, that's got everything she could need in case of emergency.

Speaker 0

Right? Like break the glass and get the tampon or whatever it is. So inside of my zipper pouch, I always have hand sanitizer. I always have lotion, hand lotion. I've got some weird quirks, I know, but one of them is I cannot stand dry hands.

Speaker 0

I can't. It like is so stressful for me. And since you're at the airport and you're washing your hands a lot because you're touching all these germy things, I always have hand lotion, like really good, delicious hand lotion. And I always have cuticle oil. I'm going to sound like a crazy person right now.

Speaker 0

I realize as I'm walking you through this like OCD hand ritual, but I'll wash my hands. Then I'll put hand sanitizer on because I don't trust the soap at the airport. Then I put on my ultra delicious hand lotion, which if you're curious, is geranium from Bamford, which is an English brand. And it is so delicious and so hydrating. And I love it.

Speaker 0

So I put on my Bamford, then I put on my cuticle oil. Now we are hydrated, ready for that air on the airplane. It's got everything we could possibly. We got everything that we need going on with our hands. I also will always have Tylenol.

Speaker 0

I try really hard not to take any sort of medicine if I don't need it, but sometimes you need Tylenol if you're cramping, if you have a headache, whatever. I have Tylenol with me. I have tampons with me. I have panty liners, like anything. I'm ready for a surprise period at a moment's notice.

Speaker 0

Obviously, I know when my period is supposed to start, but this is perimenopause, guys. Anything can happen. And even if I don't need the tampon, what if, like, a stranger needs a tampon? I always want to be ready, like help a sister out if she needs one. Like, I got you.

Speaker 0

I also have I haven't gotten a migraine in probably five or six years. I am gonna sound so dumb. I understand that what I'm about to say, like some of you are gonna be like, roll your eyes at my hippiness. But have I ever told you that I don't get sick? Okay.

Speaker 0

Well, let me just like let's take a little side step and tell you that probably six years ago, I decided to start speaking into the world and speaking into my life that I don't get sick. I was just like, I don't get sick. I don't. I am always well. I eat really well.

Speaker 0

I take my supplements. I drink my water. I get my sleep. Like, I don't get sick. So I made this declaration to myself and to the universe.

Speaker 0

And then I just kept reinforcing it to myself with the exception of, and I've told you all this before too, in the midst of the pandemic, when my daughter got COVID, everybody else in my family had had it and I was just fine. But when my daughter got COVID, because she was, oh, gosh, three. No, she was four at the time. When she got COVID, I remember because I was holding her. She obviously she didn't feel good.

Speaker 0

I was holding her and she was like coughing, whatever. And I remember thinking, oh, I'm going to get COVID now. And I still wonder what would have happened if I had just been like, I don't get sick. I wonder if I could have kept this shield of wellness around me. But I did get sick when Noah was sick.

Speaker 0

I did get a like a bronchial infection when I was on tour. Gosh. I want to say in like 2023 or 2024. You did not want to hear my wellness journey. But all of that to say in six years, I've gotten COVID once and I've gotten a bronchial infection, which was probably the result of COVID a few years later.

Speaker 0

But I have not been any kind of sick at any other time in six years. I think part of it is taking care of myself. But honestly, I think it's that our minds are incredibly powerful. Our minds are so freaking powerful. That is not woo woo, that is science.

Speaker 0

And the reality that you create is the reality that is yours to own. And I just I swear, I'll like sort of feel like a little rundown. I'm like, nope, we don't get sick. And then I'll I will absolutely take supplements. I'll take more vitamin C.

Speaker 0

I'll do what I need to do to give my immune system a little bit of a boost, but I don't get sick. That was a very long winded buildup to what else is in that little pouch in my tote, a migraine pill. About six years ago, I started saying this thing, I don't get sick. And a year into that process, I was like, holy crap, I've been really healthy this year. This is wild.

Speaker 0

I feel really, really good. And then I realized, wait, I still get migraines. I wonder if I could speak that same kind of wellness over myself about migraines. And I understand like this people be like, no. And the women in my family get migraines so freaking bad, like so bad.

Speaker 0

My mom, my sister, my niece, like debilitating migraines. And it ran in our family. It runs in my family. And I had that in my mind. And I was like, am I just sort of accepting that if I get a headache, that the headache is going to get worse?

Speaker 0

You know what I mean? Like, you can psychosomatically be like, oh my gosh, like, oh, no, it's going to be a migraine. Then all of a sudden it is like So I thought, I wonder if I could do the same thing that I did with wellness with migraines. And knock wood, I'm willing to knock wood, I have not had a migraine in five years. After getting one, probably once a quarter for a decade previous.

Speaker 0

And the kind of migraines where you're like throwing up, can't get out of bed really bad. I just decided that I don't get them anymore. Feel free to roll your eyes. You don't have to believe me. I don't need you to, like, join the speak it into existence train.

Speaker 0

Though it is a great way to live. But because the migraines are so bad, I still carry that pill around in the pouch. Because if you are ever in a situation where you're getting one and you have nothing, you are so screwed. So I believe in the power of my mind, but not enough to take that out of my pouch. So I always have a like a prescription.

Speaker 0

I have one single pill in that pouch and it is specifically for migraines if it ever were to happen. I always have ChapStick. I love a Burt's Bees. I'm very simple, but I have to have ChapStick in the same way that I have to have hand lotion. I always have gum.

Speaker 0

I love some gum, but I specifically have Pur, P U R, the kind that doesn't have any chemicals. It's like nothing. I mean, it's probably chemicals, but there's nothing bad in it. There's no aspartame. There's no crap.

Speaker 0

So I always have Pure, which lasts for approximately eleven chews before it's lost all of its flavor. But honestly, that's all I need to get whatever taste was out of my mouth, out of my mouth. So I've always got gum in there too. I also have my wallet in there. My wallet's pretty slim and nondescript.

Speaker 0

I am the kind of gal that if I'm not traveling, I actually do not carry a purse. I tend to just have my phone and my wallet. And my wallet is like the simplest little single zipper pouch that has some cash, my driver's license, credit card, debit card, business credit card, and that's it. So I always have my wallet, but it's not very exciting, to be totally honest. So, yeah, that is what is always inside of my tote.

Speaker 0

And if it's helpful at all, just a couple of things to note that I think make this really useful is number one, because I have the prepacked little bags holding all the different things, it's really easy to change my purse, right? It's really easy to change from that brown tote to the black tote. It's really easy to put things where I need them or just take one of those, like if I just want the one that has like lotion and hand sanitizer and tampons and whatever, like it's just so much easier to have that always packed and always ready to go. Sort of like a firefighter, like I've always got the stuff that I need when I need it. I know that there are a ton of different kinds of bags you can take to the airport.

Speaker 0

I've tested out purses. I've tested out crossbody. I've tested out backpacks. But at this stage in my life, a tote just gets the job done because I like that I can open it up and I can see everything. I like that I can shove sweaters.

Speaker 0

I'm a big layer person on a plane. I will have like 10 layers with me. But I don't necessarily want to wear all of those layers once I'm off the plane. So I love that the tote can hold all of that stuff. But I should add one key element here because my tote can get very heavy depending on the book.

Speaker 0

If I grab a couple magazines at the airport, depending on what's in there and like I'm filling up a 40 ounce Hydro Flask, that bag can get super heavy. And the reason that I'm able to do this is because I never ever, ever travel without a roller carry on bag. So I have a little roller carry on. If you've ever seen a picture of me on Instagram at the airport, you've seen me with my little bag. It has stickers all over it.

Speaker 0

But I always put that tote on top of the roller bag. If I had to carry a tote through the airport, 0% chance. In fact, before I adopted this methodology, I did use to carry a backpack because it was easier on my back. But if I had to like shoulder this heavy tote through LAX, no way. So just know that the tote and the heaviness and the snacks and the water and the laptop and the chargers, it is all made possible because I have this little roller bag that will hold my purse.

Speaker 0

And to be totally honest, this sounds so extra. I will take that roller bag even when I don't need it. So if I have packed everything in my checked bag and I really don't need the roller bag, I'm still gonna find something to put in there. Or I've taken it on the plane where it's holding like a sweater. Because I want it to prop up my purse.

Speaker 0

That's how important it is to me that I can like take this stuff and schlep it through the airport without hurting my back. So this was a brain dump for y'all about everything that is always in that bag. I think if you're going vacation, a lot of the same stuff will apply. Just swap out some of my work elements for your vacation elements. So instead of a non fiction book, get your favorite fiction that you're going to read by the pool.

Speaker 0

And instead of the work laptop, maybe you've got your iPad and you have preloaded it with all of the episodes of High Potential and Only Murders in the Building and that Hulu series that Vogue did about the nineties, that was so fantastic. So whatever you're into, just set yourself up for success in advance. And travel is one of those things that you try something and see if it works and then adjust and try it different the next time. But once you find something that, man, that water bottle really worked or, well, pants were great. You know, they didn't wrinkle.

Speaker 0

I felt polished. I could go from the airport to a meeting. I felt really good. They weren't too tight. Like when you find a thing that works for your travel system, just use it over and over again.

Speaker 0

Find different ways to incorporate it into your life. It's like a recipe. And you and I were trying to find the perfect recipe to make our life easier, to make our life feel better, to make our life sing. So when you tap into one thing, use it again. But for fun, can I just tell you a few things I would never in one million years never ever ever take to the airport?

Speaker 0

Just for fun. And I might call some of you out right now and you're gonna be like, oh my gosh, I totally do that. But as someone who travels all the time, these are the things I would never be caught dead with at the airport. Number one, a pillow or blanket from home. I could actually throw up when I see people.

Speaker 0

It's so disgusting, you guys. I get it. I get that you want like the comforts of home. It is so gross to take something from your bed into a public place with the germs and the fecal matter and the oh my, it's so when I see someone who brought their own pillow, I cannot. I cannot.

Speaker 0

There's no way that you are washing that pillow when you there's no way that you are burning that pillow when you get wherever you're going, which is really the only option once it has touched an airplane seat. Do not. Do not. That is so oh my gosh. Okay.

Speaker 0

So that's number one, I would never take my bedding to the airport. Number two, I again, controversial. I would never go to the airport in like grubby clothes. If you go to the airport in pajamas, you are either under the age of 18 or you don't travel much. And you are thinking of being on a plane as like sitting and then you're going to it's going to get you to your destination and then you're going to go there.

Speaker 0

And I get it. There's lots of people like, I don't care. Like, this is my time to relax. I'm going to do me. Awesome.

Speaker 0

An airport is probably some of the most opportunity you will ever have to interact with the coolest people you're gonna see this week. Business people, professionals, celebrities, like people who are doing really cool stuff. They're in really cool outfits. They're like changing the game. You get to be around the energy and the vibration of these movers and shakers, Even if you're just like going to Cabo for the weekend, you're going into this really incredible vibration of people.

Speaker 0

And I bet that within the airport, every time you've been there, there are people who are living your dream life. Seriously. We don't always get to interact with that many people in one setting, but chances are someone at that airport is living the kind of life that you want to live, and you have this opportunity to like be in their sphere, and you're wearing your SpongeBob sweatpants pajamas. Girl, no. We do not.

Speaker 0

We show up for our life. We show up for our life. You don't know who you're gonna meet at the at the Starbucks beside Gate 36. You don't know who's gonna be at that airport bar while you got stuck waiting for your flight. Like, you don't know who you're gonna meet.

Speaker 0

Show up. Show up with a little romance, a little energy, a little vibe. Do not wear your pajamas to the airport. I have four kids. My kids are not they know this about me.

Speaker 0

I'm like, no no no. You did not pay for this flight. When you pay for the flight, you get to wear whatever you want. I paid for this flight. And because I paid for this flight, you are going to look presentable.

Speaker 0

You're going to use your manners. You're going to show up in this space. I would say we should all aim to show up well and that just it can't happen in pajamas. So I would never have a pill and a blanket. I would never wear shleppy clothes to the airport.

Speaker 0

Y'all, even when I fly internationally and I'm gonna fly through the night, your girl shows up to the airport in a cute fabulous outfit. And then I bring very beautiful, very stylish sweatpants. No, like nice sweatpants. They are very specific. They are for my overnight flights.

Speaker 0

I bring them onto the plane. I change into those sweatpants once we have taken off. And then before we land in the country we are going to, I will change back into the nicer clothes. That is how hardcore I am about this. No pajamas at the airport.

Speaker 0

Third thing, unless you are on an overnight flight and you need it, why do you have a neck pillow? Why do you have a neck pillow hanging off your bag? Again, with the it's gross because it's the germs, it's by your face. Like, I just, I don't I hate it for you, to be honest. But unless you are on an overnight flight, we've been in those situations.

Speaker 0

You're like, I took the red eye, I need sleep. Great. Do your neck pillow. But those of you who have a three hour flight at 11AM, you need a neck pill, you really, we need? No.

Speaker 0

Again, show up. Make it a vibe. Make it a thing. Get on that plane and watch Avengers and like have a good time, but like nap. I don't get it.

Speaker 0

I know you can judge me because I'm judging neck pillows, but I would never. Fourth thing, I would never have at the airport. And we can all get on board with this. We need to all get on board with this. Flip flops or sandals.

Speaker 0

Open toes of any kind at the airport. No. Absolutely not. And I'm not one of the I love feet, not in a weird way, but like I think feet are great. And I don't think there's anything weird about seeing your feet.

Speaker 0

I'm in Hawaii. Like, love a tanned foot and a Birkenstock with a great pedicure. Come on, let's go. At the airport, what kind of germs you think are at the airport? Put your hooves away.

Speaker 0

Put them away. Get a sock on those puppies. Do not. No. No flip flops at the airport.

Speaker 0

My last thing along the same lines, I didn't realize how many of these were gonna be germ related, but you don't need shorts, a tank top, not not on a flight. Not on a flight. We're going to need some pants and we're going to need some sleeves. And I'm not talking full, you know, hazmat suit, but you're going to let the backs of your legs in shorts, your bare legs, they're just going to sit on an airplane seat for hours soaking up whatever the previous 2,000 people had on their body. No.

Speaker 0

No. That is so gross. No shorts. No tank tops. No.

Speaker 0

No. Cover it up. Lock it down. You don't you do not you do not know what you think they really clean those planes? They don't clean those planes.

Speaker 0

The last time they cleaned those planes was when they opened them up during the pandemic. They haven't touched them since. You do not. Do not. I would not take that to the airport.

Speaker 0

That's just me, though. Last but not least, this is just a public service announcement. This is just a courtesy to your fellow passengers. I would never take smelly food on an airplane. The person who goes to Panda Express right before the flight boards and then brings out on, you know what?

Speaker 0

You suck. You do. Either you just have no self awareness about the other people living in the world or you don't care that the entire plane smells like orange chicken now. Eat. Come on.

Speaker 0

Come on. There's so many food. If you are hungry, there's so much food that you can eat that does not smell the place up. Bring it, go get yourself the sandwich, go get yourself the salad, get the smoothie, get the thing that doesn't smell. But you bring that on, this is a whole plane.

None, we're all trapped now. We're all in this with you. We're all eating the orange chicken with you. It's just rude. Those are some hard and fast rules of travel with me.

I hope something I said at least made you chuckle or gave me an idea about how to better pack your bag. But yeah, let's set ourselves up for success guys, in every area of our life, especially when we get the opportunity to travel, which is not something that everybody gets to do. And it's such a privilege to get to hit the open road in whatever way you do it. And if you're going to do it, yeah, make it as enjoyable as it possibly can be by prepping in advance. I will be back soon with more conversation.
