You know him as Franklin from GTA five.

Speaker 0

Franklin Clinton.

Speaker 2

Thank you so much for joining us.

Speaker 0

Oh, man.

Speaker 0

Appreciate you being here.

Speaker 0

Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1

Thanks for coming on down.

Speaker 0

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1

Yes, indeed.

Speaker 1

很好。

Well, very good.

Speaker 1

Now, do you you do a lot of these conventions?

Speaker 1

We're here at the world famous Indianapolis, but not the five hundred.

Speaker 1

It's just the the one that

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Indie five.

Speaker 0

Well Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Do I do a handful of them.

Speaker 0

We do we probably you know, me, Ned, and Steven, we do enough of them through the years, you know.

Speaker 0

We wanna do more.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

We're working on, you know, getting back to doing more of them because we were doing a lot of them for a while, but we kinda fell off for a little while.

Speaker 0

But we're getting back to it, man.

Speaker 0

And Yeah.

Speaker 0

I kinda miss it, you know, meeting the fans and stuff.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

But, it's a good time.

Speaker 1

People get a get a kick out of it.

Speaker 1

I mean, it's like the most success successful show business venture

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Ever.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I mean, just in any arena.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

You know, writing, you know, bigger than Top Gun movies all rolled up.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

You know, just how many yachts do you own?

Speaker 1

I

Speaker 0

wish I wish I own a few yachts.

Speaker 2

我希望

I wish

Speaker 1

I could I wish I could say I own one.

Speaker 0

But yeah.

Speaker 0

Come on, Jamie.

Speaker 0

You know, know you got one.

Speaker 1

Well, that's good.

Speaker 1

But but you have some fun at these.

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

What are they what's the most common thing that they say to you?

Speaker 0

Right now we're going through, am I going to be in GTA six?

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

That's the most common thing everybody wants to know, you know, because you gotta remember GTA five been out now for going on eleven years.

Speaker 0

September will be eleven years.

Speaker 0

So a lot of people Time.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

They sick of it in a way but they still stuck with it until six come out.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So you still stuck with us.

Speaker 0

And that's the common question.

Speaker 0

Are you gonna be in six?

Speaker 1

Are you?

Speaker 1

Do we?

Speaker 1

Do have any answer for that?

Speaker 0

I don't don't know.

Speaker 0

That's the only thing I can say.

Speaker 0

I hope I hope so.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Because you know, even if I did know NDA, this kills all of that, but all I can say is I hope I do.

Speaker 2

You gotta steal Ned's line.

Speaker 2

He said, if I tell you, I gotta kill you.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

That's that's he reuses that all the time too.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Well, please don't tell me.

Speaker 1

Okay?

Speaker 1

Because I don't wanna die behind it.

Speaker 0

Just to know if somebody gonna be insane.

Speaker 1

Just to know, yeah, it's not worth

Speaker 0

not worth It's not worth it.

Speaker 1

It's interesting,

Speaker 0

but not not Yeah.

Speaker 2

Now, I don't I don't know if you know Shawn, but Jim plays most of the ammunition clerks in GTA five.

Speaker 2

Yeah, man.

Speaker 2

没错。

Right.

Speaker 1

I've sold you a few armaments over the years, I would Yeah, Hell yeah.

Speaker 0

Shit, man.

Speaker 0

You are a legend.

Speaker 0

A legend at this, man.

Speaker 1

Get you a good deal on an m 16.

Speaker 0

Man.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

We come way behind you, man.

Speaker 0

We know we we follow your footsteps with this, man.

Speaker 0

I know you've done so many Comic Con's.

Speaker 0

You Done a few.

Speaker 0

You've done you probably done been to as many as I done done.

Speaker 0

You probably been to each one of these states or countries.

Speaker 0

You done did it as many times if I did all of them together.

Speaker 0

I can that.

Speaker 0

Have

Speaker 1

have you ever been to Alaska?

Speaker 1

没有。

Nope.

Speaker 1

Me neither.

Speaker 1

See?

Speaker 1

So he's wrong.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

Wait a minute.

Speaker 1

Oh, wait.

Speaker 1

That didn't make sense.

Speaker 1

I think

Speaker 0

我差点

I almost

Speaker 1

made sense.

Speaker 1

来吧

Come

Speaker 0

on now.

Speaker 0

I know you didn't.

Speaker 0

Did

Speaker 2

我?

I?

Speaker 2

没有。

No.

Speaker 2

我不

I don't

Speaker 1

think that was me.

Speaker 1

Not Alaska?

Speaker 1

不是。

No.

Speaker 1

Was it was too cold.

Speaker 0

You know what?

Speaker 0

I got an offer I had to do and it's and it's kinda crazy and I turned it down because it's just how the world is going right now with the politics and the and things, the wars and all this stuff.

Speaker 0

Uzbekistan.

Speaker 0

Uzbekistan.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I turned it down because I just Yeah.

Speaker 0

I don't it's my stomach, I got a bad feeling with it.

Speaker 0

Like, it's just saying don't do it even

Speaker 1

虽然

though it

Speaker 0

went cool.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

It's just some saying leave it alone.

Speaker 0

It's not worth it.

Speaker 1

Plus, if you can't spell it, you know, that's my rule.

Speaker 1

If I can't spell the damn country.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

That's how I feel, man.

Speaker 1

You you gotta watch your stands.

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

I think.

Speaker 1

Because some of them are friendly than others.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

My wife said no.

Speaker 0

She pulled it up and then how they say how dangerous it is and stuff that they say that's there.

Speaker 0

So I just say, know what?

Speaker 1

Bless them with safety.

Speaker 0

That's all I can say, man.

Speaker 0

Bless them with safety.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

But they won't have me there, not this year.

Speaker 1

It's probably not I don't think it's a plot.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I don't know what it is, but it was odd.

Speaker 0

They just wanted me out of the three.

Speaker 0

Me, Steven, Aug and Ned, they just said we want Shawn's.

Speaker 2

That was a hit job.

Speaker 0

Wait a minute.

Speaker 2

They're putting a hit on you.

Speaker 0

Hey, man, I don't wanna say that but it could be it could be just anything, it could be nothing but it can be something.

Speaker 0

So, always go with just follow your gut because a lot of times we follow our hearts and things we do and it takes us in the wrong places because hearts are to be broken, man.

Speaker 0

Hearts have put you in some of the worst situations.

Speaker 0

It puts you in unfairly marriages, it puts you in situations that you wish you wouldn't have did but the stomach always tells you no are okay.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Foods you eat, the first bite you can eat, the smell of it, your stomach will grumble and say, You follow this man because this is the core to our life man is the stomach man is what, you know, we were created with know when something is right for you.

Speaker 0

You can get scared of something.

Speaker 0

You can feel like I shouldn't go down that dark alley but that stomach

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

But your heart will lead you into it because you'll be like, I can do this.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

心。

Heart.

Speaker 0

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

I'm following this thing right here.

Speaker 0

This little thing right here,

Speaker 2

I'm following it.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And stinks are the best stinks.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I agree.

Speaker 1

I've said that many times.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And if you feel that tingle, you know.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

You know.

Speaker 1

You know what's up?

Speaker 1

Hey.

Speaker 1

You know which way to go?

Speaker 0

It's okay to say no.

Speaker 0

Yes, it is.

Speaker 0

I'm learning that a lot, man.

Speaker 0

It's okay to say no.

Speaker 0

The power of no.

Speaker 0

The power of no is amazing, man.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

Don't be mad.

Speaker 0

It's I know we we'll get over it but just know.

Speaker 1

Just know.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Good for you.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's the lessons that that you have to relearn are the toughest ones.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So Yeah.

Speaker 1

Get it right the first time.

Speaker 0

You know I'm a take it from you because you got a little more wisdom at this.

Speaker 1

I got plenty of, you know Experiences.

Speaker 0

This and mistakes.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I'm an expert at making mistakes.

Speaker 0

Not too much

Speaker 1

demand for me though.

Speaker 2

Know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1

Want him to speak?

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

Not really.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Tell him to leave.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Can you escort him out?

Speaker 0

Escort him out fast.

Speaker 2

Oh, well, well.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Tell us about the the audition process for Grand Theft Auto.

Speaker 2

How did that hit you?

Speaker 0

Well, my audition process, you know, we we all have similar audition processes, you know, me, Steven and Ned, But mine was a little little bit different because they was looking more for the hood culture.

Speaker 0

Like, I'm a dude from Los Angeles, South Central, Watts.

Speaker 0

I have my fair share of being a criminal, a gang member, a drug dealer at a time.

Speaker 0

Some of the worst things I always tell people I experienced the I know what it felt like to be in hell, man, because I've lived it.

Speaker 0

I've been shot five times.

Speaker 0

Oh, man.

Speaker 0

I went God, you're still here.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Thank God, man.

Speaker 0

I was in control of a gang of more than 285 guys and 20 blocks.

Speaker 0

Damn.

Speaker 0

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

Of men and women at the age of 16.

Speaker 0

I inherit that.

Speaker 0

So it was a lot for a young kid to know that it made me drop out of high school at the age of at the ninth grade.

Speaker 1

You know a lot of time left.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And I fell right into the drug game because crack had hit my section of my area real bad.

Speaker 0

You know, I grew up without a father, without a father figure, all I knew was my grandmother.

Speaker 0

So I was easy to follow the the older guys and the hustlers and the criminals in my neighborhood and in my section.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

So that lead to, you know, the things that I've been through in life, you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

Where being where I can pretty much say I know what it feels like to be on both sides of the gun.

Speaker 0

I know what it feel like to to point a gun and use it and I know what it feel like to have a gun pointed at me and be hit several times.

Speaker 0

So I think Rockstar had just wanted some authentic kind of person to play this character.

Speaker 0

So they reached out to a guy that I know which his name is DJ Pool, man.

Speaker 0

And I owe this guy a lot, man.

Speaker 0

DJ Pooh

DJ Pool is a legend.

Speaker 2

How'd you know DJ Pool?

Speaker 0

I grew up around DJ Pooh, man.

Speaker 0

He's always been a legend, man.

Speaker 0

You know, he co wrote the movie Friday.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

He wrote a lot of things that people don't even know about, man.

Speaker 0

And he produced a lot of hit records, l l cool j, snoop dog, ice you name it, he had his hands on it.

Speaker 0

So, me and him grew Yeah.

Speaker 0

Up Me and him grew up in in neighborhood gang stuff and I knew of him.

Speaker 0

He knew of me.

Speaker 0

And he's always He's a person that always would give you a shot.

Speaker 0

I've never been an actor so he just like, man, could you come be in my movie?

Speaker 0

He had his first movie called Three Strikes.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

And, he asked me to come, I said, I'm not an actor, homie.

Speaker 0

You know I'm in the streets, dawg.

Speaker 0

He was like, man, just come be you.

Speaker 0

I got a role for you.

Speaker 0

So, gave me a role and the movie came out and then he did another movie called The Wash with me, Snoop Dogg, Doctor Dre, Exhibit, Eminem and so on and so on.

Speaker 0

It was just a big cast of heavy hitters.

Speaker 0

And me and his role end up still in the show.

Speaker 0

是的。

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

We were the kidnappers movie called The Wash.

Speaker 0

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

We are the most talked about people.

Speaker 0

Oh, look at that.

Speaker 0

So I was like, woah, and it kinda woke me up to everybody.

Speaker 0

So I guess when rock star start reaching out to them about we are dissing it for GTA five and we need these these these certain characters, he said, he's like, let me call my boy, man.

Speaker 0

Let me see if y'all might like him.

Speaker 0

And he called my phone at this time when he called my phone Mhmm.

Speaker 0

I was in the streets heavy.

Speaker 0

I was actually fighting two cases that I was looking at time time at.

Speaker 0

I had an ankle monitor on and I told him, nah, man, because my mind was just embedded in the streets at that time.

Speaker 0

But he was like, man, just come give it a try.

Speaker 0

And I said, alright, man, I'll come for you.

Speaker 0

So when I went to go do the audition, they gave me a script and I was reading it and it was saying something about taking something and being a gangster and this and that and that and I was like, man, I don't need that to do that.

Speaker 0

So they cameras like this and some British people behind me and they said, okay, ready and take.

Speaker 0

I just went off my head with some crazy shit.

Speaker 0

Right?

Speaker 1

Oh, that's crazy.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I said, alright man, shut their hands, got on my motorcycle.

Speaker 0

I had a Harley Davidson and I was told who I

Speaker 1

was Was it like

Speaker 0

a dream?

Speaker 1

对。

Yep.

Speaker 1

It was.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

That's what I got all ideas from bro.

Speaker 0

No bullshit.

Speaker 0

And I end up leaving and a week after that I get a callback.

Speaker 0

Could you come for a second reading?

Speaker 0

I come back for a second read and I see all these top rappers and sit in Santa Monica and they like, we just want they were testing to see who I can work with to make this thing with the Franklin and Lamar.

Speaker 0

I don't know if you know a Lamar in the game.

Speaker 1

当然。

Of course.

Speaker 0

Other character off of me.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So they picked the dude to play that do at the whole time they were they already had picked me to be a lead.

Speaker 0

I didn't never know it.

Speaker 0

And they told me I was You lived again?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

They I got the third callback saying, hey, you got picked from a British voice on the phone and he said, how would you like to come to New York for a couple years on and off to work on this game called called Paradise?

Speaker 0

They threw us off.

Speaker 0

I think Ned's name was called I forgot the name of it.

Speaker 0

It was something else.

Speaker 0

It wasn't GTA five, they threw us off in a way.

Speaker 0

So I was like, alright man, cool.

Speaker 0

Yeah, I come.

Speaker 0

Yeah, you know, we're coming.

Speaker 0

So we flew out to New York, we start working, we worked on the on the set, you know, when I got there, they give us this skinny ass scuba diving suit.

Speaker 0

Now at that time I was chunky.

Speaker 0

I was like two seventy.

Speaker 0

Know, heavy heavy.

Speaker 1

That's pretty good.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And they like squeeze into this tight ass suit with these balls and this helmet and all these wires coming and all these people staring at you and they like, here go all these pages of script like they was handing us I'm like, wait a minute.

Speaker 1

I look like a baked potato.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but

Speaker 0

then it wouldn't even look like a baked potato.

Speaker 0

Was uncomfortable with that already.

Speaker 0

当然。

Sure.

Speaker 0

Now you want to act.

Speaker 0

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

I was like

Speaker 1

I was comfortable.

Speaker 0

I said, it's hard for me to try to act to to do the script and do the when they say in action, they wanted me to start acting, but it was hard because I was uncomfortable.

Speaker 0

So I was sweating and stuff and I was like, you know what?

Speaker 0

I quit this shit and I was pulling all the stuff off of me.

Speaker 0

I said, I quit, man.

Speaker 0

Just book me a flight to go home.

Speaker 0

So, the director like, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 0

Man, trust me, you're gonna wanna do this.

Speaker 0

I'm like, man, I don't care nothing about this because they was telling us it was paradise.

Speaker 0

Like, what the fuck is a paradise video game?

Speaker 0

I wanna go home.

Speaker 0

If they would've said, look man, this is Grand Theft Auto V, I would've said, oh

Speaker 2

shit, I gotta And you knew about Grand Theft Auto prior.

Speaker 0

Because my cousin starred in one of the main biggest games that they had called San Andreas.

Speaker 0

He was the character

Speaker 2

CJ。

CJ.

Speaker 2

CJ。

CJ.

Speaker 0

That's your cousin?

Speaker 0

That's my cousin.

Speaker 2

什么?

What?

Speaker 0

So it's a family, it's weird, it's a family thing.

Speaker 0

He starred in the other big one and I starred in this one.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

It's crazy.

Speaker 2

That is crazy.

Speaker 0

So, I the one of the owners came, Dan Houser, he came to breakfast the next morning.

Speaker 0

He said, can I talk to you, man?

Speaker 0

I hear you wanna leave and you wanna quit?

Speaker 0

And I was like, yeah, man, this ain't for me, bro.

Speaker 0

Let me go back to the streets.

Speaker 0

I'm dealing with a lot of shit, man.

Speaker 0

I'm dealing with court cases.

Speaker 0

我只是

I'm just

Speaker 1

my hand is just distraction.

Speaker 0

现在。

Now.

Speaker 0

Yeah, man.

Speaker 0

You know, I don't see no future in this for me.

Speaker 0

He was like, man, look, man.

Speaker 0

You're gonna wanna do this.

Speaker 0

Just trust me.

Speaker 0

I just can't tell you.

Speaker 0

They could never say this is GTA five.

Speaker 1

That's right, that's right.

Speaker 1

So I And they couldn't say you get to go to conventions either.

Speaker 0

They didn't say none of this came about.

Speaker 1

Yeah,

Or this podcast, that would've Yeah,

Speaker 0

that would've been a podcast,

Speaker 1

man.

Speaker 1

我正在

I'm

Speaker 0

in then.

Speaker 0

I'm in that case.

Speaker 0

Man, what?

Speaker 1

Excuse me, where do

Speaker 0

I sit?

Speaker 0

Where do I stand?

Speaker 0

So I end up staying and I went through the ups and downs of being a motion caption actor.

Speaker 0

That's a lot to come with it because the imagination you have to do is a different thing and I know you might know about it that you have to step out of being in a real outfit, in a real house, in a real car, in a real atmosphere so you can really act.

Speaker 0

You in a suit with wires coming from your helmet, bridal light in your eyes and just you bumping people.

Speaker 0

Your helmets is hitting with these Oh, things boy.

Speaker 0

Is hitting each other while you're trying to it's just a big distraction to try to land these cut scenes.

Speaker 1

但是

But

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I would think When's when's the most you've ever had to use your imagination for a role?

Speaker 2

What would you say?

Speaker 1

Oh, jeez.

Speaker 1

Well, I do I I never had the problem of having to imagine what it would be like.

Speaker 1

I mean, it was cold, I could be cold.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But as far as, something like that where you're engaged in all this physicality, I'm glad to say my guys, they I they figure out what he looks like when when he's doing it.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

What about something like, Cheshire Cat?

Speaker 1

There was yeah.

Speaker 1

There was some things, though, that I've done, and they they've used my face.

Speaker 1

I think for Cheshire Cat was one.

Speaker 1

And there was a couple of other things, but not nothing nothing worth bragging about.

Speaker 1

Nothing nothing like you did.

Speaker 1

And, there was one that Tom Kenny and I did, and we appeared to be on a game show.

Speaker 1

The character's cat dog.

Speaker 1

I was cat.

Speaker 1

He was dog.

Speaker 1

And they, they had us appear to be on a game show.

Speaker 1

So we had to sit next to each other and kind of stay within a certain area, and they had superimposed, and it looked like it was live Yeah.

Speaker 1

To the audience because, we were just off stage and CatDog was there, and it was really kinda cool.

Speaker 0

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

So, you know, I thought, but you're but I mean, the stuff you guys do comes out like a feature film.

Speaker 0

It's crazy.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Like, that's what it feels like.

Speaker 0

Have you ever had to wear the motion caption suit?

Speaker 1

没有。

No.

Speaker 1

Just that one time, you know, but

Speaker 0

I've No.

Speaker 0

Never had We

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Because, you know, I was in what was it?

Speaker 1

Wonder

Wonder tour?

Speaker 1

I was the arms dealer.

Speaker 1

Like I said, I used to sell sell you some weapons.

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 2

But that was just voice recording.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Just recording.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

They didn't have to.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Nobody cared what I looked like.

Speaker 1

They're like, whatever.

Speaker 0

Yeah, it's a different world, man.

Speaker 0

I'm talking about like, we would be on set and you could have and you can have Denzel Washington come in there or any other top actors come in and put this suit on and they can be good actors.

Speaker 0

But then you have to say, okay, now you gotta do this, be an actor with this suit on, this distraction and this is your car which is nothing but poles and and a sandbag with a pipe coming from it and a steering wheel your own imagination for the own animation.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Like this would be my car seat and I would sit in it and you would have to be like, know, yeah, man.

Speaker 0

So you had to look around like you're driving but when you look up on this big old screen up here, you will see your character in a car rolling and you'd be like, oh shit, you move your hand, he moving it, it's a Oh, wow.

Speaker 0

So now you kind of close your eyes and say, that's the imagination.

Speaker 0

They might say the ocean is way right there, they'll put a piece of blue tape on the wall and say, that's where the ocean.

Speaker 1

Oh, there you go.

Speaker 0

That's where the sunset.

Speaker 0

So you'll be aim at it.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You have to put your eyes there because they use our real eyes inside of these characters, our eyes and our teeth.

Speaker 0

They put them inside of Yeah.

Speaker 0

So it was tough for me.

Speaker 0

所以你

So you

Speaker 1

can't get to floss.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

It was tough.

Speaker 0

It was tough, man.

Speaker 0

But that's where they got me from through a friend of mine, DJ pool And I'm I'm I'm so grateful and thankful that I can't thank God enough for setting me in this path to be able to provide for my family and be the breadwinner and protector and the provider for my wife and my kids.

Speaker 1

It's so well known too.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I mean, all over.

Speaker 1

I mean, you guys crush it.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

很好。

It's good.

Speaker 1

That's so cool.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

So after that experience, do you see yourself as an actor now?

Speaker 2

Like do you pursue more acting and

Speaker 0

I don't pursue more acting.

Speaker 0

That's my issue.

Speaker 0

That's my problem, man.

Speaker 0

It's

Speaker 1

Do have an agent?

Speaker 0

No, man.

Speaker 0

And I I just was telling Jeff, I said, man, so many people say, why aren't you acting bro?

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

After that video came out, you should have been going to castings and all you could have got landed a lot of roles since then.

Speaker 0

I'm like, I don't know, man.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know, I don't know.

Speaker 0

I just fell into after the game came out, I went home and just started me a business and took care of my wife and my kids, man.

Speaker 0

Didn't chase that.

Speaker 0

Well, that's good.

Speaker 1

Nothing wrong with starting your own business.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

No, I started my own business.

Speaker 1

Can you talk about it?

Speaker 0

What should we I have a trucking business.

Speaker 1

Get free commercial here?

Speaker 0

I have a trucking business, man.

Speaker 0

Nice.

Speaker 0

Fonteno Trucking, and we have dirt trucks.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

And I have a my my wife and my daughter have a a real lucrative bakery that all the stars ordered their bakeries from back in LA called Bailey Sweet Treats and it's a real good bakery.

Speaker 0

So we started a good business and it's working for us, man.

Speaker 0

Do repos?

Speaker 0

Beautiful.

Speaker 0

No, I do.

Speaker 0

We have we have dirt trucks.

Speaker 0

We do the dirt truck business, man.

Speaker 0

There's a lot of money into that business, man.

Speaker 2

I was gonna say you really are Franklin if you're doing repos.

Speaker 0

No, man, I don't do no repos, I play with that game because you're taking somebody's car, man, and it can go all bad for you.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it could be, it could get a little miffed.

Speaker 0

Especially in Los Angeles.

Speaker 0

Come on, man.

Speaker 2

Well, Jim, you grew up in a kind of rough area too in Youngstown.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I can You wanna

Speaker 2

speak to that?

Speaker 1

I could definitely relate.

Speaker 1

Yeah, You know, I I we were talking the other day and it's like, I know guys who if I said their name, you would think that I was making them up, you know, names like like Moon and, you know, Geek and and you know, you know, Spaz.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

对。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And, you know, all just all these all these names.

Speaker 1

You know, I was like, well, what's what's this guy?

Speaker 1

$500 a leg.

Speaker 1

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

And I didn't I didn't ask how much it cost for him to go to work for you.

Speaker 1

I said, what's he doing?

Speaker 1

You know, it was like $500.

Speaker 1

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

算了。

Never mind.

Speaker 0

So, yeah.

Speaker 1

You know, I've, known a few guys like that.

Speaker 0

I've Yeah.

Speaker 1

You know, I remember they used to call it Crime Town USA and I and I've heard several explosions of of people exiting the building or or the earth, you know?

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I got you.

Speaker 0

I'm with you.

Speaker 0

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I know.

Speaker 1

是的

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So yeah.

Speaker 1

You're like, yeah.

Speaker 1

That was Tuesday for me, right?

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah, man.

Speaker 2

That's much better.

Speaker 2

Growing up in that environment, how do you think that shaped you as a man?

Speaker 1

Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 1

Just it's hard to surprise me, you know, or or offend me or I don't know, overwhelm me with with, you know, tragedy or what have you.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

That's how I feel.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's like, no, it's fine.

Speaker 1

You you know, you're you know, it always you only get so much credit with me.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You

Speaker 1

知道。

know.

Speaker 1

You know, I I knew I guys that, you know, would laugh at you and and smile too frown too hard and then knock you on your ass.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Partake your life.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know, when when you hear that type of stuff, I know you'd be like Yeah.

Speaker 0

I've witnessed it, man.

Speaker 0

You talking about it.

Speaker 0

I know what it really feel like.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I know.

Speaker 1

I remember I'll never forget that one time a bomb went off a couple blocks away and my aunt my aunt's China closet fell over and it was I was just concussion.

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 1

You know, the whole thing.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So, yeah.

Speaker 1

Isn't this fun folks?

Speaker 1

But but

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

It's it's interesting though.

Speaker 0

是的。

It is.

Speaker 0

Because it's true.

Speaker 1

It is true.

Speaker 0

And we're blessed today to be where we are in this position today, but it's also good that we have the knowledge of this type of shit.

Speaker 0

I hate that we have been through this type of stuff, but hey man, we couldn't was sometimes you can't rewrite a book that's already written for you.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

Like, people wanted to know how many how did I get shot?

Speaker 0

Why did I get shot?

Speaker 0

It's a difficult story, you know, because I got into the drugs at a hard times when crack hit LA real bad Mhmm.

Speaker 0

And the Colombians came in.

Speaker 0

You meet these people and they were flooding you with these drugs and talking about carloads of them and you're only 17, 18 and you just don't know what to do.

Speaker 0

How am I gonna take this what he gave me and get him back $7,000,000 in four or five days?

Speaker 0

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

So then you just start getting reckless.

Speaker 0

So you start getting on the phone with all the wrong people and saying, here, take 20, you take 30, you take 50.

Speaker 0

This dude just gave me all this shit, man.

Speaker 0

What do you do with it?

Speaker 0

You know, I'm under age.

Speaker 0

I'm a kid.

Speaker 0

You know, I'm like, what the fuck do I do?

Speaker 0

So, you know, I remember one time, man, was crazy.

Speaker 0

I'm just thinking about it because it's one of the the moments that could have not put me here today, you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

Being in a room about this big and there was a deal going down and I've seen the door cracking open while we counting money and, a dude reached in and cut the light off.

Speaker 0

And the moment he cut the light off, we all holding out and all you could see is flashes.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

And I remember being shot.

Speaker 0

Bullet staples here, here and here.

Speaker 0

And the reason them come because when I got hit, I fell down.

Speaker 0

And when the lights come on, you know, it's a dude standing over you.

Speaker 0

And all you seeing is the barrel and he squeezed it.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

砰。

Boom.

Speaker 0

And you go like this and he hit you here and he hit you here.

Speaker 0

So, you know, I witnessed it and I know you like shit, man.

Speaker 0

You telling me some shit that I didn't seen a thousand times.

Speaker 0

All I have is what only my mind know.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yes.

Speaker 0

It's not fun.

Speaker 0

And we tend to

Speaker 2

glamorize the used to

Speaker 0

glamorize that shit.

Speaker 0

I used to tell people they like me, I heard you've been shot five times.

Speaker 0

Don't don't glorify me.

Speaker 0

Glorify the motherfucker that shot me.

Speaker 0

That's who you'd be praising because he was he was the one

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's not like you're trying to

Speaker 0

kick kick.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

You know?

Speaker 0

But I grew up in a time man, to be honest with you and I can honestly say this from my mind that the older guys taught me that you have to go to jail.

Speaker 0

Have you have to get shot one time to be a gangster, a gang member.

Speaker 1

没错。

That's right.

Speaker 0

Beat this person and then sad that they teach that to this to young people, man, that that solidifies you as a gangster.

Speaker 0

And you get a teardrop because you've been to the jail.

Speaker 0

They called him a a bullet for every, like, five years or ten years, you get to put a teardrop and then another teardrop.

Speaker 0

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

Bro, I mean, I don't

Speaker 1

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Don't wanna win

Speaker 0

that I don't wanna go to jail, bro.

Speaker 0

不。

No.

Speaker 0

Because because I've had people come to prisoners come from prison and say, yeah, just did twenty years and I would look at them and say, that's your damn mistake.

Speaker 0

I did not one day, bro.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Because I knew how to escape it.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

I knew how to have bail money, attorney money and stay out of the way of that shit.

Speaker 0

You got caught.

Speaker 0

Don't be I didn't get caught.

Speaker 1

Well, no kidding.

Speaker 1

Envy them.

Speaker 1

Oh, if only I had been in jail for twenty years.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 2

不。

No.

Speaker 2

不。

No.

Speaker 0

I don't wanna be in jail for no

Speaker 1

fucking No.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

不。

No.

Speaker 1

I'm glad that yeah.

Speaker 1

这是

It's

Speaker 0

你的。

yours.

Speaker 0

That's yours.

Speaker 1

That's you.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I've been married twenty seven years.

Speaker 1

所以你

So So you

Speaker 0

know did.

Speaker 0

Do do you you did twenty seven years in jail.

Speaker 0

I've been married for twenty seven years you know how hard that is to be married for twenty seven years.

Speaker 0

That's ain't easy.

Speaker 0

She is not easy man so yeah man.

Speaker 0

You know, we good for you.

Speaker 0

Both been through some knucklehead stuff but look where we at, man.

Speaker 0

Still here.

Speaker 0

I pray I can to make it, the older people say just keep living.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

When you talk when you say something about an older guy, man, you old, you walking like this and they always say, just keep living son.

Speaker 0

You'll get there.

Speaker 0

I'm feeling it now.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

I'm feeling the aches like I just had spine surgery and

Speaker 1

Oh man.

Speaker 1

Was risky business.

Speaker 0

It was something that I regret because it's it's like my pain is just like worse.

Speaker 0

And now all they wanna do is use me as a cash cow.

Speaker 0

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 0

Well, we see where we could have did something and you're not going back in there.

Speaker 0

I rather And I hate to say this man, but I would rather take pain pills than to let you go back digging in my spine.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

But I don't do that neither because I've been hooked on pain pills before.

Speaker 0

I've been hooked on Norco pills and and I know what it feel like to be on them for years and then you don't even be in pain but you addicted to taking the pills because how good it make you feel, you know, and numbs the pain of anything.

Speaker 2

是的。

Yeah,

Speaker 0

it numbs the pain of just being broke and numbs the pain of just being depressed because I have that disease where I was depressed.

Speaker 0

It's I got a book I'll call Game changer and I've been through it, man.

Speaker 0

I tried to off myself before, you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

So you you run that.

Speaker 1

Unfortunately, you know too much about what you're talking about.

Speaker 0

Yeah, man.

Speaker 0

Well, that's

Speaker 1

a beautiful thing to turn that into a an offering to people instead of carrying it around like a a dead weight or a you know

Speaker 0

Oh, no.

Speaker 1

There's a shadow on me, this and that.

Speaker 1

You you wear it well and you turn it into a strength.

Speaker 0

Let me brush it off, man.

Speaker 1

That's a lesson for anybody.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

And I I tell people that I I went through hell getting off of them pills.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 0

I was taking them so much to the point that if I didn't have a man, I'll run into the streets to just anybody.

Speaker 0

You you you man, how much you want?

Speaker 0

I I bought 100.

Speaker 0

I bought 200 a month at this.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

Can be mistake.

Speaker 0

I lost two friends to him that end up doing the same thing, buying them off the street from another friend and they died because they were laced with fentanyl.

Speaker 0

Fentanyl.

Speaker 0

是的。

Yeah.

Speaker 0

So that's what made me kick it.

Speaker 0

That day, I remember coming home one day and I told my wife I admitted to her, say, man, I've been a druggie for the longest.

Speaker 0

Off of just one drug though, you know, I didn't get on OxyContin's and all of that, but of Narco, it was opiate.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

It was a Vicodin.

Speaker 0

And I said, don't wanna do this no more.

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

And I flushed all the ones I had.

Speaker 0

I had about 90 some of them left.

Speaker 0

I said, I I gotta do this, but I need you to work with me, babe.

Speaker 0

And she was like, I'm glad you told me.

Speaker 0

Let's go.

Speaker 0

But when I tell you, boy, I don't wish withdrawals on my worst enemy

Speaker 1

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

Is hell.

Speaker 0

It's per hell.

Speaker 0

No sleep for nine, six days straight.

Speaker 0

Your brain just

Speaker 1

Oh, my God.

Speaker 0

The worst headaches, the worst body aches, the worst everything, Suicidal thoughts and all this crazy stuff, man.

Speaker 0

So I talk about my addiction and I talk about my withdrawals going through that and the tenth day, body just come back, everything heals in the brain and you just be like, what the hell?

Speaker 0

This what I've been missing?

Speaker 0

Mhmm.

Speaker 0

I've been clouded and muted myself, man, with all these pills that I finally got it back after fighting this.

Speaker 1

So I

Speaker 0

was like, Oh my God.

Speaker 0

Never wanna take no more.

Speaker 1

It was worth it in the end.

Speaker 0

It was worth it.

Speaker 0

这真是

It was

Speaker 1

definitely See, that's inspiring because not everybody think would think that.
