嘿Aubrey,最近怎么样?
Hey Aubrey, how's it going?
我很好,Lindsay。
I am great, Lindsay.
你今天在忙什么?
What are you up to today?
天啊,和往常一样我有一大堆待办事项。
Oh my God, I have tons on my to do list as usual.
老样子。
As usual.
哦,我是故意这么问你的。
Oh, I asked you that on purpose.
本来希望你能用个有趣的方式说你有很多事要做,待办事项一大堆。
Was hoping you would use an interesting way to say that you have a lot to do, a lot of things on your to do list.
而你用了种非正式的说法。
And you did an informal one.
当然。
Course.
是的,
Yes,
你可以把它当作工作上的较量。
you can It's a bet battle on work.
每天都是这样。
Much every day.
没错,确实如此。
Yeah, for sure.
太多事情会让人感到无聊,对吧?
A lot gets boring, right?
太多事情会让人感到无聊。
A lot gets boring.
我们经常这么说,不是吗?
We say it all the time, right?
有时我会给雅思考生做模拟口语测试,他们会反复说'很多'四、五、六次。
Sometimes I'll do like a mock speaking test with an IELTS students and they'll say a lot or a lot of four, five, six times.
有太多能拿9分的表达方式了。
There are so many band nine ways to say this.
所以今天你将学习正式和非正式的表达方式,这些可以用在你的写作文章和口语回答中。
So today you're going to learn both formal and informal ways to say this because this could be used in your essays for outs writing, as well as your speaking answers.
是啊。
Yeah.
所以今天,你知道,很多听众会问我们,如何在写作和口语中把分数从6分提高到7分?
So today, you know, a lot of listeners will ask us, you know, how do I bump my score up from a six to a seven on writing and speaking?
就是这样。
This is it.
关键在于找出错失的机会,并将其转化为机遇。
It's isolating missed opportunities and then converting those into opportunities.
对吧?
Right?
这些都是提升分数的机会。
Chances to jack up that score.
没错。
Exactly.
因为在口语词汇方面,7分或更高分的定义是考生能展示出丰富的词汇量。
Because the definition of a seven or higher for vocabulary in speaking is that the candidate shows a range of words.
这包括非正式和正式用语,同时还要展现出对有趣短语的掌握,比如俚语、习语以及许多学生不知道的较生僻词汇。
So that's informal and formal, but also exhibiting knowledge of interesting phrases, you know, slang idioms and rarer words that many students don't know.
频繁使用'a lot'或'a lot of'可不算在内,对吧?
A lot or a lot of does not count for any of that, right?
每个学生都知道'a lot of',但今天我们要教你的词汇将提升你的词汇分数,因为并非所有学生都会使用它们。
Every student knows a lot of, but the words we're going to teach you today will boost those vocabulary scores because not every student uses them.
而且根据你选择的词汇,它们有时也是提升发音分数的好机会。
And they're also good opportunities sometimes for pronunciation, improving your pronunciation score depending on which word you choose.
是的。
Yes.
因为其中很多词你需要更用力发音。
Because a lot of these you have to hit harder.
对吧?
Right?
你需要更用力地发音来变化语调。
You need to punch them more to vary your intonation.
你说对了。
You got it.
那么奥布里,我们别再让听众们继续等待了。
So let's not leave our listeners in suspense anymore, Aubrey.
我们今天需要了解什么?
What do we need to know today?
是的。
Yeah.
那么首先让我们深入了解这些词汇的正式含义。
So let's dive in first with, the formal meanings here.
想想你在说话或写作时有多频繁地使用'很多'这个词,林赛。
Think of how often that you say a lot of when you're speaking Lindsay or write it.
对吧?
Right?
这在雅思考试中会出现。
This will come up on IELTS.
所以学习这些更高分的表达方式是值得的。
So it's worth it to learn these higher scoring ways to say that.
确实如此。
For sure.
那么我们是否应该先讨论正式的表达?
So should we go first into the formal ones?
奥布里,那些正式的例子呢?
The formal examples, Aubrey?
我们开始吧。
Let's do it.
我们的第一个词是'plethora'或'a plethora of'。
Our first word is plethora or a plethora of.
例如,在第三部分问题或写作任务二中,通常会要求你给出社会问题的解决方案。
So for example, on a part three question or a task two essay is often going to ask you for the solution to a social issue.
比如你可以说,政府应该提供大量的教育机会,让每个人都能了解自己的选择。
So for example, you could say the government should provide a plethora of educational opportunities so that everyone is aware of their options.
注意我是如何为口语第三部分或写作任务二举例的,因为这些词更正式。
So notice how I'm giving an example for speaking part three or writing task two, because these words are more formal.
如果在第一部分问题中你被问到'你最喜欢的餐厅是什么?',用这些词会显得有点奇怪。
It would be a little strange if in a part one question you're asked like, what's your favorite restaurant?
你说我住的地方有大量餐厅可供选择。
You say there are a plethora of restaurants where I live.
这太正式了。
It's too formal.
是的。
Yeah.
你绝不会对朋友这么说,因为第一部分就像是和朋友聊天。
You would never say that to a friend because part one is kinda like speaking to a friend.
对吧?
Right?
这些话题都比较轻松友好。
A little bit that the topics are friendly topics.
没错。
Right.
而第三部分和写作任务二则需要使用这类正式词汇来体现语言广度。
Whereas part three, writing task two, you need this formal vocabulary to get that range.
嗯。
Mhmm.
明白了。
Got it.
好的。
Okay.
所以第一个词是'plethora'(丰富)。
So plethora is the first one.
另一个是'abundance'(大量)。
Abundance is another one.
希望我们的听众都在记笔记,各位。
I hope our listeners are writing these down, guys.
当然。
Absolutely.
拿上纸笔,把这些记下来。
Get a pen and paper, jot these down.
嗯。
Yeah.
对。
Yeah.
举个例子,林赛,如果我在口语第三部分问你,或者你在写作任务二中遇到关于环境的话题,你可以如何
So for example, Lindsay, if I asked you in a speaking part three question, or if you got a task two essay about the environment, how could
使用'abundance'这个词?
you use abundance?
是的。
Yeah.
你可以说:我知道许多人否认全球变暖是个问题,但有大量证据反驳这种观点。
You could say, I know many people deny that global warming is a problem, but there's an abundance of evidence disproving that idea.
没错。
Yeah.
听起来非常正式,对吧?
Very formal sounding, right?
听起来确实很正式。
It is formal sounding.
这样说得分会很高,因为你可以用'大量证据驳斥这一观点'这样的表达。
It's high scoring because you could say there's a lot of evidence disproving that idea.
意思完全相同,但得分会高得多。
It means the exact same thing, but a much higher scoring.
学生们不常使用这些词汇。
Students don't use these words very often.
哦,下一个词更高级。
Oh, and the next one's even fancier.
是什么词,奥布里?
What is it Aubrey?
Profusion(大量)。
Profusion.
举个例子,在第三部分如果被问到无家可归者或其他社会问题时,你就可以用这个词。
So for example, in part three, if you're asked about homelessness or any social issue, really, you could use this.
可以说在我居住的城市里,无家可归的现象泛滥成灾。
Say there is a profusion of homelessness in the city where I live.
城市必须提供服务和教育来遏制这个问题,这至关重要。
It is vital that the city provides services and education to curb this problem.
好的,完美。
Okay, perfect.
然后是'host'这个词。
And then host.
我喜欢这个。
I like this one.
这个词可能非常少见,对吧?
This one's probably very rare, right?
众多因素共同导致了这个问题。
A host of factors contribute to this issue.
这就是它如此灵活的地方,对吧?
That's what's so flexible, right?
这仅仅意味着有很多因素共同导致了这一现象。
It just means a lot of factors contribute to this.
'一系列因素'是九分水平的表达方式,适用于考试写作等场合。
A host of factors is a band nine way to say that or write it in a test And two
我喜欢它的灵活性。
I love how flexible it is.
这个表达可以套用到任何话题上,无论是无家可归问题还是全球变暖,对吧?
This could plug into any of the topics about homelessness, about global warming, right?
一系列因素共同导致了这个问题,对吧?
A host of factors created this issue, right?
促成了这个问题。
Contribute to this issue.
在引出你的观点时使用这个高级词汇。
Use this impressive vocabulary when you're introducing your ideas.
你还没有具体说明要讨论的因素,但先用这个高级词汇来引出话题。
You haven't yet said the factor that you are going to cover, but you're using this impressive vocabulary to introduce that.
然后说说Myriad这个词的用法。
And then Myriad, tell us about this one.
对,Myriad也是同样的用法。
Yeah, so Myriad, same thing.
表示大量的、无数的某事物。
A lot of a Myriad of something.
例如,如果被问到...其实我们可以提供一个模板,因为模板里可以加入这些表达。
For example, if you're asked about, you know what, actually let's provide a template, because a template, you can add these to templates.
比如在写问题解决型作文时,你可以准备一个包含Myriad的模板。
So for example, when you are providing a solution for a problem solution essay, you can have a template ready with Myriad, right?
可以这样写:'无数策略都能有效解决这个问题',然后列出你文章中要支持的策略。
It would be a Myriad of strategies can effectively address this issue, including then you name the strategy that you will support in the essay.
这个表达可以用在任何问题解决型作文中。
So this could be used on any problem solution essay.
我们最喜欢提供模板了。
We love to give templates.
我们在三把钥匙雅思课程里提供了大量模板。
We give a lot of templates right inside our three keys IELTS course.
对吧,奥布里?
Right, Aubrey?
是的。
Yes.
它们非常实用,因为你只需加入自己的想法,模板里已经包含了雅思9分的词汇和语法结构。
And they're so helpful because then you just add your own ideas and they already have that band nine vocabulary and grammar structures.
那我们就用这个模板吧。
So let's use this template.
假设你遇到一道关于儿童使用科技的写作任务二问题解决型作文题。
Let's say you get a task two problem solution essay about children using technology.
你会如何运用
How could you use
对。
Yeah.
因此,多种策略可以有效解决这一问题,包括限制未成年人使用任何设备的屏幕时间。
So a Myriad of strategies can effectively address this issue, including screen time limits or on any devices being used by minors.
是的。
Yes.
是的。
Yes.
当然,接下来你会提供一个例子或更多细节,对吧?
And then of course, you'd provide an example, more details, right?
但这是引入你观点的一种高分方式,也就是你将在正文段落中支持的观点。
But this is a very high scoring way to introduce your idea, the idea that you're going to support in that body paragraph.
太棒了。
Love it.
好的,奥布里。
Okay, Aubrey.
我们已经讨论过
We've talked
关于正式场合,我们可能会用到刚才在口语第三部分或写作第二部分讨论的那些表达。
about the formal where we're likely to use those that we just talked about in part three of speaking or part two of writing.
但如果是口语第一部分呢,比如任务分享一?
But what about maybe part one of speaking, for example, or task Share one
再多说一些,因为还有非正式的方式可以传达这个意思。
some more because there are informal ways to get this message across.
表达'很多'的其他说法。
Other ways to say a lot of.
比如,'一大堆'。
For example, loads.
我经常这么说。
I say this a lot.
哦,我有一大堆衣服要洗。
Oh, I have loads of laundry to do.
有一大堆碗要刷。
Have loads of dishes.
我今天吃了好多意大利面。
I've eaten loads of pasta today.
它的意思就是很多。
It just means a lot of.
我也经常听到澳大利亚人这么说。
I hear this a lot from Australians too.
我经常听到澳大利亚人用'loads'这个词。
I hear Australians using loads a lot.
那里人山人海,比我预想的要多得多。
There were loads of people there, way more than I expected.
是啊,如果在任务一中被问到音乐会的情况,你可以说'那里人山人海'。
Yeah, if you're asked about a concert maybe in task one, oh, there were loads of people there.
意思就是有很多人,一大群。
Just means there were a lot of people, a big crowd.
或者说'成吨的'。
Or tons.
对吧?
Right?
‘吨’这个说法也很常见。
Tons, very common.
也许任务一会问你早餐吃什么或空闲时间做什么。
Maybe task one asks you about what you eat for breakfast or something you do in your free time.
你可能会说,我家附近有好多咖啡店,但我最喜欢的是一家不起眼的——抱歉。
And you might say, there are tons of coffee spots near my home, but my favorite is an assuming sorry.
是一家不起眼的小咖啡馆,离我家只有一个街区。
Is an unassuming little cafe that's only a block away.
不错。
Nice.
不错。
Nice.
其实我确实写了‘assuming’这个词,所以稍微把你绕进去了。
And I actually did write assuming there, so I tripped you up a little.
这个词挺容易混淆的。
That's a tricky word.
‘unassuming’也是个九分词汇,用来形容低调的事物。
This is a band nine word too to call something unassuming.
意思是它并不特别奢华。
Means it's not super bougie.
也不高档。
It's not posh.
更偏向朴实无华。
It's more humble.
对吧?
Right?
可能就像一家小餐馆。
Maybe just like a little diner.
虽然不起眼,但有时却藏着最好的咖啡。
Nothing special, but sometimes it has the best coffee.
低调不张扬,但通常确实是最好的。
Flies below the radar, but it's usually the best for sure.
我是说,最好的食物往往来自那些门前招牌并不花哨的地方,诸如此类的。
Mean, the best food is from the sort of the the places that don't have the fanciest signs in front, things like that.
注意,对于'loads'和'tons'这两个词,我们都要重读强调。
And notice for both of these for loads and tons, we're punching it harder.
如果用平淡的语气说'there were loads of people there'会显得很奇怪。
It's strange to use these in a monotone to say there were loads of people there.
不,你需要强调它。
No, you want to emphasize it.
哦,那里人山人海(用强调语气)。
Oh, there were loads of people there.
咖啡店比比皆是。
Tons of coffee spots.
这样能提升你的发音分数。
And that will improve your pronunciation score.
对吧,奥布里?
Right, Aubrey?
完全正确。
Absolutely.
是的。
Yes.
好的。
Okay.
第三点是'一大堆'。
Number three here is a bunch.
如果在第一部分被问及周末计划,你可以说:'我们邀请了一大堆朋友这周末来烧烤。'
Maybe if you're asked about weekend plans on part one, you could say, We invited a bunch of friends over for a barbecue this weekend.
我超期待试用我们的新烤架。
I'm super stoked to try out our new grill.
注意所有这些非正式词汇都应该用在第一部分。
Notice all of this informal vocab that you should be using on part one.
Stoked是非常口语化的说法。
Stoked is very informal.
对吧?
Right?
有点像冲浪者的用语。
It's kind of like surfer language a little bit.
完全正确。
Totally.
不错。
Nice.
Gobs。
Gobs.
Gobs是另一个我觉得常在英国英语或澳大利亚英语中听到的词。
Gobs is another one that I feel like I hear from British English speakers or Aussies.
我不太确定。
I'm not sure.
而我
And I
也会这么说。
say it too.
我们西部人会说‘gobs’。
We say it in the West, gobs.
是啊,没错。
Yeah, sure.
如果有人让你——比如在口语第二部分让你描述一个朋友,或是让你描述一个令你印象深刻的人,你可以这样描述:‘她开发的应用程序让她赚得盆满钵满。’
If someone asks you to Oh, if you're asked to describe a friend maybe on speaking part two, or someone who impressed you, you could say, you know, you're describing someone and say she made gobs of money when she launched her app.
意思就是赚了很多钱,但这是非常口语化的表达方式。
Just means a lot of money, but a very informal way to say that.
我喜欢这个说法。
Love it.
还有‘galore’这个词。
And then galore.
这很有趣。
This is fun.
也许有人会问你喜欢的面包店或你最爱的甜点。
So maybe you are asked about a bakery you like or your favorite dessert.
我家附近有家面包店,从牛角面包到闪电泡芙,糕点应有尽有。
So a bakery close to my home has pastries galore from croissants to eclairs.
很难只选一个。
It's hard to choose just one.
这是个高分词汇,但要注意:其他短语的结构都是'成吨的'、'大量的'接名词,
This is such a high scoring word, But there's one caveat here that for all of these others, notice the structure, we say tons of, gobs of, and then the noun.
而这个短语要放在名词后面。
Whereas this one comes after the noun.
比如'我的家乡博物馆林立',
We say, Oh, there are museums galore in my hometown.
或者'这家面包店糕点琳琅满目'。
This bakery has pastries galore.
我们直接在名词后使用这个词,这很奇怪。
We say it right after the noun, which is strange.
这对形容词来说很罕见。
That's rare for an adjective.
奥布里,知道这个真的很有帮助。
That's really good to know, Aubrey.
非常重要。
Really important.
所以大家要练习这个词,习惯使用它。
So guys practice this one, get used to using it.
只需在日常对话中使用它,这样在雅思考试时就能随时派上用场。
Just use this in your daily conversations and then it'll be ready to break it out during IELTS.
明白了吗?
Okay?
没错,正是这样。
Yes, exactly.
在雅思回答中使用这些表达时,你需要非常有系统性。
You need to be very systematic about using these in your IELTS answers.
就像你说的,你不能仅仅看着这个列表就觉得‘好,完美’。
Just like you said, you're not going to If you just look at this list and think, okay, perfect.
我知道很多表达‘大量’的9分词汇。
I know band nine ways to say tons of.
这还不够。
That's not enough.
在口语考试或写作时,这些词汇不会自动浮现在你脑海中。
They're not going to be able to come to mind during the speaking test or when you're writing your essays.
你需要练习这些表达,才能掌握这套9分词汇库。
You need to practice this so that you have this arsenal of band nine ways to say that.
我们之前说过这一点。
And we've said this before.
我们知道考试成绩最好的学生往往像对待工作一样认真对待这个。
We know that the students that do the best on the test tend to take this on like it's their job.
每天学习多个小时。
Study for multiple hours a day.
他们学习正确的内容。
They study the right things.
他们使用学习计划。
They use a study plan.
他们真的像对待工作一样认真对待。
They really take it on like it is their job.
这就是他们能通过雅思考试的原因。
And that's why they get past IELTS.
这不是一件随便的事。
It's not a casual thing.
法布里,通常只听播客是不够的。
Listening to the podcast is usually not enough, Fabri.
确实如此。
Exactly.
是的。
Yeah.
所以我们将为你提供一个非常系统化的方法,将这些词汇添加到你的词汇库中。
So we're going to give you a very systematic way to add these to your vocabulary arsenal.
每天选择一个,并挑战自己当天至少使用它五次。
Choose one each day and challenge yourself to use it at least five times that day.
大声使用它们,可以自言自语、与他人交谈,或者在网上发布包含这些词汇的内容,并用它来练习回答雅思问题。
Use them out loud, either to yourself or in conversation with someone else or post something online using one of them and practice answering IELTS questions using it.
对,我非常喜欢这个方法。
Yes, I love that.
我很喜欢。
I love that.
那么第二天我们要做什么呢?
Then the next day, what will we do?
是的,选择一个新的词汇,重复这个过程,但同时也要复习之前学过的单词。
Yeah, choose a new one, repeat the process, but then also review the previous words.
今天我们这里有10个新单词。
So we have 10 new words here today.
也许你可以选择四五个你最喜欢的,对吧?
Maybe you choose four or five, your favorites, right?
到了第五天,你要复习这五个单词,因为你希望它们能成为你的积极词汇。
And on the fifth day, you're going to be reviewing all five of them because you wanna they're make in your active vocabulary.
你不需要参考笔记或笔记本。
You don't have to refer to your notes or a notebook.
你可以写一篇文章并运用它们,或者在雅思考试的任何口语部分回答问题并使用这些词汇。
You're able to write an essay and use them Or answer a speaking part, you know, anywhere on the IELTS exam, answer a speaking question and use them.
好的,方法不错。
Okay, good methodology.
很好,我们有了方法,有了执行的步骤。
It's good that we have a method, we have a way to do it.
别指望听完今天的节目就去考试还能记住这些,对吧?
Don't expect to remember these if you just listened to today's episode and move on to the exam, Right?
你将无法回想起这些词汇。
You will not be able to pull them up.
采用我们建议的方法。
Find a method that we've suggested.
加入我们的课程。
Get into our course.
还有另一个建议,大家可以去听听我们的另一个播客《商务英语》。
One other recommendation, guys, is go check out our other podcast, Business English.
查看第234期节目,我们在那里使用了这些词汇。
Check out episode two thirty four, where we used these words.
奥布里,什么
Aubrey, what
那期节目叫什么名字来着?
was the name of that episode?
对,是叫《繁多》或《大量》。
Yeah, it was multitude or plethora.
什么是量词,它们为何重要?
What are quantifiers and why do they matter?
如果你想更深入地了解语法,比如这些词是什么、为何在英语中频繁使用、为何需要在语调上强调它们,那将是值得一听的一集。
So if you want a dive more into the grammar, you know, what these words are, why we use them so much in English, why you need to stress them for your intonation, that'd be a great episode to go try out.
今天我们没讨论'大量'这个词,但你会在那集中学到它。
And we didn't talk about multitude today, but this is another one that you'll learn about in that episode.
你也可以说'a multitude of'来代替
You can also say a multitude of instead
A of lot a lot 好的。
A of lot a lot Good.
要找到那个播客,只需在你收听平台打开搜索栏,点击《商务英语》的关注按钮。
So, to find that podcast, you just open up your search bar wherever you're listening and go ahead and hit the follow button on Business English.
你需要往下滚动很多才能找到第234集,因为现在这个节目已经播到400多集了。
You will need to scroll down quite a bit to get to two thirty four because right now we're around the high 400s on that show, I think so.
但你一定能找到它。
But you'll find it.
好吗?
All right?
是的。
Yeah.
你也可以回到博客看看。
You can also come back to the blog.
我很确定有一篇相关的博客文章。
I'm pretty sure there's a blog post for this.
所以,如果你访问ullersenglish.com,可以搜索第234期节目或这些关键词。
So, if you come to ullersenglish.com, you can search that episode number two thirty four or these keywords.
我们为大多数节目都写了博客文章。
We have a lot of blog posts about most of our episodes.
这也是一个非常好的资源。
So that's also a really good resource to be using.
太棒了。
Awesome.
奥布里,我们今天最后的要点是什么?
Aubrey, what's our final takeaway today?
你需要掌握能在几乎所有雅思口语问题或作文中使用的灵活词汇。
As you need flexible vocabulary that could be used in nearly every IELTS speaking question or essay.
你肯定需要频繁表达这个意思,而且需要更高分的表达方式。
You're definitely going to need to express this meaning a lot of and you need higher scoring ways to do it.
好的。
All right.
今天的内容很棒,奥布里。
Good stuff today, Aubrey.
保重。
You take care.
我们很快会再聊。
I'll talk to you very soon.
很快在雅思能量节目中再见。
See you back here on IELTS Energy soon.
太棒了。
Awesome.
